France unlikely to be tested with this lineup until the latter stages. Any scars from 2 years ago?

Re: Group C Discussion
14 of that French squad have never played at a major tournament, so doubtful they have any scars. The French have always blown hot and cold, nothing new so far.

VAR review gives French pen, basically two mins after it happened. Not a pen for me.

Mark Lawrenson has to be the worst commentator in the world. All he does is moan, he offers no real insight or analysis into the game at all.

Tbh, I’d be moaning having to watch this French team, in particular, Hernandez. Embarrassing stuff from the first minute.

Its a requirement in this world cup for one of the comms to be a grumpy ex pro.
Lawro, Murphy, Hoddle and Dowie.
Sometimes its better to be lucky than good. France were definitely closer to the former today.

Indeed but Australia rarely threatened. Very dull match overall.

Re: Group C Discussion
France doing their usual and not turning up to the opening game, that being said this time they have at least got 3 points. You would imagine they can only get better from here..
Deschamps has to change his thinking and not try and squeeze all that young talent up top...doesnt work much like Gerrard/Lampard...hopefully he accepts it very quickly and reverts to Giroud partnering one or other.
Looking forward to seeing Peru later...and how good is that video..!

Great use of VAR but Peru sky the penalty

Re: Group C Discussion
Peru have been really good but lack conviction/composure when it matters. Denmark took their chance

Re: Group C Discussion
Peru looked the better side but you’d guess are probably out. You’d suspect they might be too open against the French, and that whilst one of them or Denmark are probably good enough to get a draw against France, Peru would have to hope Australia threaten Denmark.

Denmark Australia 1-1 at HT.
Eriksen with a good strike, Australia with another pen given by VAR. Entertaining half.

Denmark all over Australia early on...but the Aussies came back as the half progressed . Got a bit lucky with that penalty but were just about worth the level scoreline on balance.
Second half will be interesting...

Re: Group C Discussion
The penalty is definitely 50/50. You can see why it was given, but if it hadn't you wouldn't have complained.
Australia playing well in the 2nd half. As you'd expect from a team that could be out in 4 1/2 hours.

Re: Group C Discussion
Impressed with Australia, they deserve the win from what I've seen, just lacking that quality up front. What they wouldn't give for a prime Viduka right now....

Re: Group C Discussion
Think I'd like to have seen Tim Cahill on for the later stages. He has the knack of getting goals at the end...
Draw a fair enough result. Denmark still have to play France but with a win already they'll be the happier of the two sides.

Re: Group C Discussion
Fully agree Australia looked impressive and lacked quality in the final 3rd. Took the wrong options to many times.
A lot rests on how France do, win and they may rest some players. Or not be as bothered.
Peru get something, then it's all up in the air.

Re: Group C Discussion
Another curious "non-performance" from France. They have so much talent but just seem to refuse to play attacking football. You would like to see them going two goals down in a match and have to really play.

Re: Group C Discussion
Group of great players rather than a great team. Cost them an easily winnable tournament 2 years ago and doesn't seem much has changed

Half Times.
Denmark/France 0-0. Peru/Australia 1-0.
France still not really performing. Great for Peru that they've got there Goal.

Re: Group C Discussion
Just seen some highlights of the Australia/Peru game. It looks a strange game, Australia seem to have had all the ball and chances. Yet Peru lead 2-0.
Turned off the France game, 2nd half's just been boring.

Backed the draw in France v Denmark. By the looks of it, so did the players.

Denmark just happy to put all 11 behind the ball and defend.

Re: Group C Discussion
Can't understand why some are complaining about the France-Denmark match. What did people expect? A draw suited both teams and that's what they got.

Re: Group C Discussion
The only thing I'd say against Denmark, is that late on, when Australia were 2-0 down and out of it, they were 2nd in the group lose or draw, could have tried to get a winner and top the group. Still just sat with 11 behind the ball.

Should have just shook hands on the draw pre game and cut out pretending to play a game
