Surprised this has taken so long to be made public, to be fair.

My mate named his son after Regan King. Big Scarlets fan. True story!

Obviously awful for those who lost money, but I won't criticise King too much after seeing a friend of mine who nearly lost everything due to his gambling addiction
It is an illness, and beyond the control of the person suffering, in my friends case it was only the intervention of those closest to him which has seen it off for now.
I hope he is getting the help he needs, by the sounds of it with his family member stepping in, he is

Yeah a high profile Irish player had the same issues. He is a coach now and by all accounts he still has the same problems and is bound to blow up badly at some stage.

everyone has the ability to make a choice and this means people don't have to be responsible for their actions. I have worked very closely with people with drug/alcohol issues and what I see most s people blaming their misfortune on someone else.

Exactly the sort of response I'd expect, it shows you up as you can't engage in debate and respect someone else's opinion but at least you own it

Saying that mental health is mind over matter is pretty much the same as saying you can woah cancer away.

Someone we should not name due to the injunction taken out I guess. Unless the forum is hosted on French servers and poster is in France? Never sure how it works to be honest.Collapse2005 wrote:Yeah a high profile Irish player had the same issues. Any way we all know who you mean.

I didnt say mental health was mind over matter. I said people make their own choices in life. Choose to drink, choose to have the next one, choose to inject drugs, choose to go gambling.
When we disavow our own autonomy then we give up command of our own outcome.

I disagree. in some cases no doubt mental health is at play; in others it is avarice, weakness, peer pressure. To dismiss all these behaviors as mental health is to dismiss each person's responsibility for their own actions and their own outcomes. It is an unfortunate idea that all negative behaviors and outcomes are somehow out of the control of the actor. If as a recovered addict, I go back into the world with the same pressures and do not lapse then explain my ability to do that? It choice, with proper supports and education.
Too many people are willing to dismiss these behaviors as 'mental health' which suggests we have no ability to influence or control our own actions? Unless you restore autonomy people will always fail to control their outcomes

L'Equipe ran a story back in 2007, just before Ireland faced France in the RWC. Should be possible to find reference to it using google.
