The future of the rugby forum - Page 4 Empty The future of the rugby forum

Post by RDW Mon 28 Jan - 20:41

First topic message reminder :

Folks,

For those who do not already know, Hero (the original founder of the forum) is stepping down from running the site and I am taking over from him. The first big announcement is that I’ve up-rated the rugby moderating team, with George Carlin stepping up to rugby Administrator and new mods Biggee, London Tiger and maestagmafia created. There will be an Irish/Northern Irish mod to come but they haven’t opened their PM yet asking if they want to do it!

I’m keen to get people’s opinions on the site, good or bad, and to hear ideas on how we can make the site better. I would appreciate if this doesn’t just become a moan about mods – once again worth reminding that we are all volunteers who try to do our best in our spare time. Hopefully adding more moderators will help complaints be resolved more quickly. Ultimately though if all posters treat each other with respect and act with maturity we wouldn’t have any modding to do!

So I’ll leave this as an open forum to raise any points you want to raise and hopefully we can get some ideas.

Finally, I would appreciate if you could follow our new Twitter account – we used to have one but the password for it is long gone! https://twitter.com/606v2R if you could give a retweet as well that would be super.

Cheers,

RDW (Ross)

Surely a thread for feedback on how a forum works for its users should allow for constructive criticism of moderation? I know you all volunteer, but if there are problems in an area (which there clearly have been for some time with an aspect of moderation) then it should be ok to voice them. Within house rules obviously.

Sorry Cyril just noticed you never got a reply.

The key word here is 'constructive', which generally hasn't happened on this thread.

TBH I'd rather you PM me if you have specific issues. On that note 7.5 I never received one from you?

I get logged out pretty much every day on this forum even though I select ‘stay logged in’.

Anyone else get the same problems?

RDW, re. comments about the forum, there seems little point if you take weeks to reply to any concerns. There seems little or no interaction considering you asked for feedback. I would say that criticism of moderation is fair game (within house rules). If you just want slapping on the back for running a forum then you won’t improve the site.

If you use the desktop version everything works - the issue appears to be the mobile version.
Alas we can't do anything about that as it's a feature of Forumotion who are the overlords that we host this forum from.

I've checked both your settings and you have PMs enabled.

No, I got nothing from you, 7.5.

RDW, I seem able to PM Cyril but not 7.5.

Even though I access here from my phone most of the time, I still use the desktop version. Sure it means things are small, but the Mobile/Simplified version has too many issues.

Strange - I've got no issues PMing 7.5 and as I said all his settings are set to allow him to use PMs.

7.5 - have you tried from the desktop version?

I actually prefer the desktop version and have no issues with text size!

I do have to use the desktop version to get to pm s but I have tried using it and get nothing. Just a heads up when I'm getting my knuckles wrapped! You'll have to do it in public. Which to be honest is better as everyone can see what is acceptable. I wont get into my gripes again though.

That's what we strive for 7.5 although I know we don't always get there, but it's not for want of trying. Part of the reason for that of course is one poster's view of fairness can be very different from another's!

I'm not sure what you're referring to 7.5 as I've looked at the forum log and you were last banned on 9th August by Biggee for your 3rd strike - the England thread you mentioned was 2 weeks after that OK

Me too sometimes. I reckon the best thing to do these days is just ignore the wallys and report posts rather than get into a melee. That's the approach I took when I was set upon by a mod (who is no longer here) anyway.

Guys, complaining about why you get your collar felt is not the answer. Perhaps you should review your style/approach/mannerisms on here.

I have, and I find this place a lot better for it. Although, I do not spend as much time on here anymore as a result. But constantly pointing your finger outwards, instead of at yourself is not the way to enjoy this place.

Please remember, that it is not one MOD taking action, it's a team of MOD's. They all look at the evidence together, and as a team come up with a punishment to fit the crime.

It is not one MOD with an axe to grind against a particular member.

I’m still not sure which part of his post was wrong though? Try using the web version and quoting it? Or just stay off the forum, this thread and others continues to be ruined by the same English posters. I’m not sure why the mods are so easy on these guys when the rest of us get comments edited/removed and cop bans.

7.5 I was replying to you, and I’m not sure why you’re confused. You tend to always do this though, someone asks you a question and when you can’t answer you sidestep it by exhibiting child-like behaviour. By doing so you’re just ruining the forum. So answer the question or just move on.

So who are 'these guys' mikey?
The point of LDs post was that I needed to change my style from my banning post. Hes wrong. Theres nothing about it which broke the rules here or even the initial warning LT gave. Which part of the warning did I break which the post I referenced didn't? Why was I banned and the initial post wasnt. I assume you've read it else your post was based on what exactly?

These guys? I literally alluded to them just two posts ago Rolling Eyes - you must be doing it again.
I would definitely say that you need to change your posting style. You don’t have to of course, but continue to annoy enough posters and action will be taken. Your other questions should be sent to the mod team via a PM. If you’re unable to do it due to your insistence on using a different version then that’s your problem.

Mods, what sort of process do you follow when reviewing a complaint that’s been made against another poster? I only ask due to being targeted. There have been a few attempts to ruin the forum by certain English posters and I’ve replied with facts, which is on topic - so it is obviously them targeting me. I would suggest taking some sort of action against them, I think their continued and unchecked wumming is due to Wales being ranked No.1, as silly as it sounds. Thanks.
