First topic message reminder :
The Crucible is alive again to the sound of cues smashing into the cueball for the 2019 Snooker World Championship.
On Day One the champion Mark Williams got off to a steady start to lead Martin Gould 6-3. Ding Junhui also leads 6-3 against Anthony McGill and Neil Robertson is home and hosed leading debutant Cypriot Georgiou 9-0.

Fair play to Gilbert, he's not looked great, neither have, but 10-6 is massive. Higgins looks so poor today. Blue to pink there was tough, but dropping the blue at that weight, didn't even have a shot on the pink. Silly, silly shot.

Brilliant pressure black from Gilbert to secure a 10-6 lead.
That's a horrible session there from Higgins. I remember him having a shocker against Hendry in 2012 and McManus in 2014...But that might be worse than the pair of them. Normally I wouldn't rule him out, but this time I can't see Higgins overturning this deficit. He's just not scoring heavily enough.

10-6 it is. Tremendous two pots from Gilbert at the end. The only solace Higgins can take is that he still managed to take 3 of 8 frames off Gilbert, despite being so poor, and if he improves his all-round game he can still get back into this. I don't expect Higgins to be that poor this evening.
Gilbert is now the clear favourite, but it'll be interesting to see how he copes when the finishing line gets into view. I wouldn't exactly describe Gilbert as someone who played well, by World Championship standards, this morning, but he did enough.

5-3 would put alot of pressure on Gilbert, but Higgins needs to sort himself out. Did he leave it all out there against Robbo?

Sloppy safety, he's left a red to the middle for Wilson who chips the white ball into the centre pocket. Unbelieveable. Trump pots the red and that's a very poor shot...

Yep, nowhere near a potting position, flicks off the blue and safe. Wilson gets the white back to baulk but Judd sticks the reds on the bottom cushion, could be a few shots here...

Tight one now, Judd leads by 22 but a good snooker from Wilson reduces that to 18, and with the white in a bad spot, he's putting it back...

Ohhhh, nasty. Judd goes for a snooker, gets it, and the yellow sit's in the jaws...Wilson off the side rail.... double kiss and IN! Gap now 5, green is horrible.. brown on the side rail, he's gone safe and tried to get the white behind the blue... Not quite, don't think Judd takes this on...

Always felt Trump doesn't have the mental toughness in long matches where he is fave. Has a chance here though early in the 12th after a poor Wilson shot... 2 reds... 2 blacks...

11-6 to Gilbert. No idea why Higgins went for that yellow, it was a suicidal shot considering how he's been playing. He looks mentally jacked.

It's the sort of shot you'd expect Trump or ROS to go for, but normally Higgins is far more savvy and plays it safe. Can't see any way back for Higgins.

Higgins and Gilbert have been exceptionally poor, particularly Higgins who played garbage. However i am not completely convinced that Gilbert has what it takes to win this match. His break building has been poor and were it not for Higgins gifting him numerous chances to win frames, the score line would be a lot closer.
Still, i would love to see Gilbert win, haven't been a fan of Higgins since the match fixing allegations, other players such as Stephen lee, Quinten Hann etc have been rightly punished severely for such activities, yet Higgins got a paltry 6 month ban for 'failing to report the approach'.
i'll be glad to see the back of him.

Well, Higgins has made a habit of pulling out incredible doubles in pressure situations (against Day in 2004, O'Sullivan 2006 Masters, Williams 2010 UK Championship, Trump 2011 etc.) and that black to get back to 7-11 is right up there with any of them. Wow.

Gilbert should be kicking himself, he was in complete control of that frame and a 50 odd lead in points was huge considering where the balls were, yet he misses a simple pink that would have taken him 12-6 up.
I don't think i have ever seen higgins play so poorly, gilbert probably can't believe his luck, he is given multiple chances to win frames

After nailing a highly difficult red, Gilbert misses a routine green. His nerves betraying him. Higgins tidies up and, at 8-12 now, he's clinging on for dear life but still just about there.
Vital that Higgins wins the last mini-session either 3-1 or 4-0 to still be in this match. 10-14 would be too big a gap, in all likelihood.
