Well now we have got those trivial European semi finals out of the way, we can concentrate on the most important game of the season so far when the luvies of Edinburgh return to the west to meet the once and future champions!
So what is in this game for both sides?
For Glasgow any kind of win will take them into a home semi final and that may still happen if Munster lose to Connacht should the unthinkable happen and we don't win!
Hard to see what is in it at all for Edinburgh other than pride, as they would need a win and a sequence of unlikely results to go there way even to get into the play off for the last Champs cup place, let alone to qualify for the playoffs, though that does remain a mathematical possibility.
Glasgow, after a poor show against Saracens and that can be slightly qualified by the way they demolished Munster yesterday have continued to build their form and look in very good shape going into this one. They should be further boosted by the return of a few more of their walking wounded, Wilson and Gibbins should be back for this match to add even more steel to their back row.
Edinburgh look as if their season ran out of steam in a dissapointing loss at home to Ulster. For some of their top performers it really looked like it was a game to far and they will have to dig very deep into their tank to find it within themselves to compete for a game that is likely not to get them any tangible reward even if they were to win.
Having said that Edinburgh do seem to take the option of turning up for this match, as opposed to the option of not turning up for other games that they should win comfortably like Dragons, Zebre and the Southern Kings!
On form, this is a Glasgow win all day of the week. However as some of the Edinburgh fans have pointed out, they have won this fixture before despite being the underdogs in the past (well just about every time we play to be honest).
So Glasgow will need to be on their game for this one and i am sure that they will be, with the massive incentive of a home semi and the potential of being in the final at Celtic Park. They are also going to be very peed off at the way we have lost to Edinburgh recently and have the feeling that it is about time that they plaed the real Glasgow team!
So here we go

No play offs for the Luvvies.
No seventh place either unless they pick up three points. If my understanding of the Byzantian qualification rituals is correct.
So a draw with a try bonus point for each side would be acceptable.
Dream on Luvvies. Even without Jonny Gray you are in for a spanking.

That's the spirit Jimbo. Don't forget you were all slaughtering each other only a few hundred years ago for belonging to different clans. I expect nothing short of that here...

Edinburgh's defence for both tries has been abysmal.

Because he is Pyrgos, it’s what he does.
New scrum half coming next season and hooray Henry can be binned from pro rugby in Scotland.

Big Statement of intent shutting Edinburgh out there at the end of that half. An early score to settle the nerves please and it’s plain sailing.

Not quite sure why that was a Glasgow penalty given they were running round sideways, not that it makes a difference

Mentioned it on the other thread but in some ways, with RWC coming, it's a blessing in disguise to not be involved in big knockout games this close to the autumn. Looked a significant injury to McInally.

Rae is a very good scrummaging prop, probably better than Fagerson actually.

1. Glasgow, devoid of a potent forward pack and stacked full of fake tanned, hair gelled (in some cases bleached bloned) pretty boys in the backs means that Glasgow are now the Effiminate ones.
2. "Yet another slaughter" can only apply to the team that constandly gets whooped (such as Glasgow losing 8 out the last 10 games)
So............
Saying "Yet another slaughter of the effeminates" would indicate you are talking about glagsow getting a spanking yet again. This can only make people beleive you are an Edinburgh fan.
Luvvies have the ball for 76 minutes and create next to the square root of bugger all.
The Once And Future Champions have the ball for just as long as it takes to score four stunning tries.

Hope his injury isn’t a bad one,he seems to be back on his feet, but also hope that’s the last we see of Pyrgos in an Edinburgh shirt....10 man rugby only goes so far but his service is glacial....
Everyone knows what Pyrgos is going to do and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out how to defend against it.
Glasgow were able to make a mess of the breakdown and Adamson let them away with murder.... 18 penalties and no yellow card is pretty laughable really.
They fronted up and deserve to top the pool.... Edinburgh will have lots of time to reflect on those away trips to Russia, Romania and Georgia

Oh well, 2-1 to Edinburgh, the 1872 Champions. On balance that's a fair reflection.....
(Well played Glasgow, thought Cummings and Gordon were particularly good, as was George Horne once more. He's a 50 cap+ international player in the making. No one will say the same of Pyrgos. That Price try was everything that's wrong with Pyrgos at 9. Last word to Duhan for making Hogg look like Underwood vs Lomu....).

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Edinburgh Saturday 27th April
Well got home from work without knowing the score and just had a very enjoyable couple of hours!
That's what happens when the real Glasgow turn up!
What a player Thomas Gordon might become, he played Watson out of the game and not many do that.
Its a shame we have got to wait three weeks for the next game now, we are on such a roll that you just want to carry it on and not loss momentum.
Edinburgh looked like they were running on fumes, nothing left in the tank, but boy have they go to change their playing style if they are ever going to improve. It won't do them any harm to just concentrate on the league next year, the cup run has cost them dearly this year I think.
Hope all the injured players are not to serious.

Straws ?? Clutching???
On a serious note: with the death of Billy McNeil this week the Celtic-Inter match has been rolling round in the empty caverns of my mind. For many at the time it was a stunning final because Inter had embraced and perfected a very negative, no risk, style of football. Celtic beat them by embodying a philosophy which was the antithesis of that in every way. Last night's match certainly had two very differing approaches to how to win a rugby match. I don't think we can say , "Oh but the Luvvies were flogged to death. If they were fresh they'd have won." They had plan A and fecc all else. DR has taken Toonie's "Back your skills and go for it" philosophy and added a very steely pragmatism to it. They can defend like their goal line is Stalingrad, but when they see a chance they attack like the great French sides; all flair and invention. If Schiz and Bru were here today we could spend hours debating which of last night's tries was the most breathtaking. If the Luvvies want to be competitive they need to accept that a very limited gameplan will only bring limited success.
For any posters who, like me, struggled with Karl Marx's idea of dialectical materialism; thesis+antithesis=synthesis try thinking Cockers+Toonie=DR.

The image of the so called formidible Edinburgh pack getting counter rucked off the ball by Wee Ali Price, the smallest guy in the Glasgow side! Is one that will stay with me for a long long time.

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Edinburgh Saturday 27th April
On a more serious note, Edinburgh took another handful of injuries again in that game, some of which may effect Scotland in the run up to the WC
The worst of them looked like McInally who went right over on his ankle and will no doubt be out for a while.
Darcy Graham was hobbling right from the begining, but hopefully it was nothing to serious.
Mark Bennett took another knock, I think to his knee again, but I did not really get a good look at it and have any idea how serious it was. If it is another bad one for him, he must be one if the unluckiest player ever and it is surely going to put his career under some threat.
Barclay looked like he cramped up badly, so hopefully nothing to terrible. He is probably still really getting back to full speed after the long layoff and has probably been played to much over the past few games.
Mata was also hobbling a long time before he went off. He has definitely been overplayed this season and it has showed in the past few games when he seems to have serously lost his zip. He needs a good long rest before the WC now.
It was a hard old day for the Edinburgh boys.

Like eggs benedict, freshly squeezed orange juice and roast coffee. Thanks for asking.
It was a comprehensive win, and much as it pains me, there is a scintilla of truth in what Jimbo says. We do need more ambition, and whilst Pyrgos is a problem it goes much wider than that. Hopefully the continuing development of Graham, the return of Kinghorn and a fit Scott/Bennett centre pairing will go some way, as will the Pacific Islanders coming in next season. Shiel hmat 9 has to happen sooner than later as well.

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Edinburgh Saturday 27th April
I'm hungover so it will come with a side of Irn Bru for me.
What is frustrating is that at no point in our dreadful season run in has Cockerill ever said the tactics need to change. It's all been about player fatigue, number of Scotland players etc etc - this all contributes but the #1 issue is our attack.
The players seem to agree with him too - VDM earlier in the week said Edinburgh have a great attacking system. He of all players should know we really don't having barely touched the ball in months!
What's frustrating is that in the golden period around Christmas our attack was good - especially in the big Euro games - what happened since the 6N?

As for Glasgow, they're looking good for a home final and I'll be fully supporting you all the way.
I suspect you'll be playing Ulster (I think?) in the semi though which is no easy game - they're on a great run of form just now.

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Edinburgh Saturday 27th April
The player fatigue point may be correct, but we've seen it before a million times. It's simply what happens when you don't rotate the squad properly. Bill Mata was a prime example yesterday, his performance was a shadow of what he is capable of. Perhaps Bradbury ought to have started. Watson looked jaded as well, especially compared to Gordon who was the epitome of fresh. This takes nothing from Glasgow, and Cockers needs to rethink the strategy for next year.

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Edinburgh Saturday 27th April
In hindsight, the Euro run, despite it giving the club great success and qudos did not do them any favours. A bit like Glasgow last season, they played their best rugby back in Dec/Jan and at the same time, gave away a lot more of their players to the international squad and they came back knackered.
Edinburgh did not have the squad depth, or at least the squad depth that Cockers trusted, to fight on both fronts and they have unfortunately paid the price. It won't do them any harm to concentrate on the one objective next season.
He needs to take a look at his selection policies though. Yes he does not have the deepest of squads but in areas where he has decent players, back and front row in particular, he still does not rotate adequately. He really needs to learn form that for next season.

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Edinburgh Saturday 27th April
Agreed on the back row. Crosbie and Ritchie are both capable players and could have seen more action. The disappointment was really Luke Hamilton, who wasn't of the standard we needed really. Also remember that Watson, Bradbury and Barclay missed chunks of the season, which will have hindered rotation plans somewhat.
It's really at lock where Gilchrist and Toolis have really had to handle the lions share. They must be exhausted.
