What is going on with Glasgow's selection policy? I know there are injuries but moving Dunbar and Murchie around and starting Jackson with, presumably, the kicking duties hardly helps. Is Horne being rested? What about Fusaro?

Re: Rabo Direct Pro12 Treviso v Glasgow Warriors
Big risk,IMHO, starting Gillies as his darts have been poor so far this season. Also his lack of bulk isnt great for the front row confrontation with a tough Treviso scrum. MacArthur's injury has been a massive blow the front 3.
Also, given how poorly Jacko is playing i would have preferred Nathan outside him to take some of the kicking pressure away and allow him to rediscover some form.
I also hope that Harley's knee is fully recovered as this will be a real scrap up front.
I wonder if Paris will get his league debut at some point, and if Troy Nathan will ever get on a pitch in a Warriors shirt again!

God this will mean Jacko's passing game will go to hell if he has kicking duties also. Not at all confident about this.

Although Paris hasn't played yet, would it not still be preferable to start a winger on the winger as opposed to a scrum-half? Matawalu looks like he will give us a bit of a spark, as David Lemi did at times but Treviso I assume will look to play territory and Matawalu could be exposed here.

Re: Rabo Direct Pro12 Treviso v Glasgow Warriors
I quite like the look of this team - solid throughout. I think Dunbar is more natural as a 12, and will offer Jackson a fairly safe option outside him; I hope Hogg can latch onto some of the half breaks he always seems to make.
Slightly worried about bombs going down Matawalus throat, but if they kick badly to him, his pace and broken field running will be a threat.
Will be a tight game, praying for Jackson to play like he did in the first half against Northampton.

Can anyone else in the squad kick. Noone, including Jackson himself, is confident in his kicking. You'd think that with the problems, Toonie would have scouted another potential player to take over kicking duties when Horne isn't playing. I wonder if Hoggy is any good

Treviso are playing their 2nd choice front row (an all Argentinian one with a former prop at hooker). With Cusack at 3, i don't think the Glasgow scrum will go backward, could be a different story when their first choices comes in for the last 30 though.

Ah no Robert Barbieri for Terviso 2nd top try scorer in Leauge with 6.
Ah well, to be honest I think Terviso will win this they've been prety good so far at home in the league.

I think this is going to be a very close game. Two belligerent teams, playing (probably) in wet conditions. I wish we had wee Duncy for this one. Without him I would say advantage Treviso - just.

Re: Rabo Direct Pro12 Treviso v Glasgow Warriors
I think that Dunbar-Hogg is a very positive selection. We also have a 4-3 split on the bench, thankfully, with Wight and Paris who both look fast and sharp. Troy Nathan will really be chomping to get on so it looks as if there could be a backline of Mata Wight Nathan Dunbar Paris Seymour Hogg seeing out the last 30 mins. No disrespect to Henry P or Horne they have both played very well recently but the set of backs above seems to me to be very creative and positive. When you consider Schlong,Ramont, DTH ,Cusiter, Wee Dunky and Maitland the future doesn't look too bad does it?

Glasgow could potentially have a team, later in the season, of:
1. Grant
2. MacArthur
3. low
4. Kellock
5. Ryder
6. Harley
7. Fusaro/ Barclay
8. Strauss/ Wilson
9. Cusiter
10. Weir
11. Maitland
12. Horne
13. Dunbar
14. Van De Merwe
15. Hogg
16. Welsh
17. Hall
18. Cusack
19. Swinson
20. One of the many back rows
21. Matawulu/ Pyrgos
22. Jackson
23. One of the Lamonts or Swinson
Out of interest who will play scrum-half for Glasgow when Pyrgos and Matawulu are involved with their National sides?

6-10 down at half time.
Scrappy affair in monsoon conditions. Not helped by the overly officious ref, who's acting like a kid at Christmas that's just been given a whistle

Amazing turn around by Glasgow, Tommy Seymour scores 2 tries despite Glasgow being down to 14 men at the time

Emm, out played and pinned back for most of the match, but more or less held out. And then grabbed some tries. Mixed game for Glasgow, but given how tough the conditions were and a place Treviso is to visit, a good result.
Re: Rabo Direct Pro12 Treviso v Glasgow Warriors
Well done everyone out in Italy who were representing the Warriors. 5 League wins in a row despite so many players missing.
Good recruitment has meant we can pick up wins on the road despite missing (for various reasons) the following backline.
R Lamont
S Lamont
DTH
Horne
Maitland
Weir
Cuister
Plus arguably our entire first choice front row. Strauss and last years player of the year!!!

Re: Rabo Direct Pro12 Treviso v Glasgow Warriors
Great away win for Glasgow. Thought we were in trouble when the ref warned both our props midway thu the first half, but I think that was mainly reflective of the ref having no clue about what was happening at scrum time. Blatant knock-on missed for Seymour's second try, but dems da breaks! Treviso will beat better teams at home this season, but as others have said, given the current injury list, that really was a good result
PS Murchie is simply not an international quality player under any circumstance

Treviso were going backwards when they brought on their much lauded front row with 60 on the clock. Was a puzzle for their supporters and their HBs no less !

Thought Wight changed the game, yes Treviso made mistakes but Wight controlled where the game was played and allowed is to capitalise when the mistakes came.

Dot,
yes two great clearance kicks and a nice wee crossfield for try 2 by Scott Wight. He has come on very well this season- thought Jackson was good too and looked to have sustained a hand injury.

Scott was very good last night, how can you possibly say Jacko was good, his 1st attempt at penalty was a joke, yes, he did get 3 more.
His kicking to space/ territory was poor and also his general play, why oh why is he in the Scotland squad?

Well done Warriors. My bet for the playoffs before the season started. After a slow start, last years excellent consistency has returned. An away win in Treviso is a tricky task for any club now. Making Scotstoun a fortress is the next step. No one in the league will want to go there looking for pts. I see no reason why Warriors wont be at the business-end of the PRO12 come next May

Sorry skelm,
if you look at my post I was requesting the esteemed Mr Gibson to attend Scotstoun.
I make no claims for RJ - he is a good rugby player who needs confidence. I am at a loss to read the negativity surrounding Jackson when there are way worse players who play for Scotland - albeit in different positions (De Luca, Cross, Ford) i.e. Robinson's little cabal of friends who no matter how utterly crap they play for club or country get picked. However I no longer care I would rather the BBE leaves Warriors players alone to get on with some real rugby and let the Barnton/St Andrews set get on with their Mexican Waving !
Hope that clears it up matey

Schizoid,
Its on my list bud. And when I do go, lets have pints and a few drams, mo chara.
I just have great admiration for the Warriors in the way they set out their stall. They are building a strong squad, got themselves a new ground, and take every game in the PRO12 to the max.
They are enhancing the PRO12 like no other team. They give it honesty & credibility. That's why I will travel there with Leinster. Asbo and I, may just do that together.

Glad you cleared that up ASBO!!
Great win for Glasgow. All in all not a bad start from Toonie. Shame Glasgow couldn't have at least taken a LBP from Ulster and Saints in the HC, but still, the team is shaping up nicely for a charge at the play-offs, which is what Toonie had to achieve this season.

Agreed FES. Was slightly concerned that the initial wins were against weaker teams but you cannot argue with away wins at the Hairsprays and the Cosa Nostra. Given the Monty Python-esque levels of injury at present, I am really quite encouraged by the thought of a backline that in a few weeks could hopefully offer:
15 Ramont
14 Maitland
13 Hogg
12 Dunbar
11 van der Merwe
10 Jackson
9 Cusiter
Not sure that we'll ever actually see that backline on the field, but it would be great.
In summary - the coach's report card has been reasonable:
A. Good Toonie Things
1. Signing Strauss and Maitland
2. Giving Wight a chance
3. Trying Nippy Niko on the wing
4. Taking kicking responsibility from 'training wheels' Jackson and trusting Horne to kick
5. Giving Cusack a chance to show how badass he is
6. Seeing that Ryder and Swinson were badly needed and paying what was required for them
7. Bringing on Pyrgos
8. Not signing overweight former NZ Junior Players Of The Year
9. Bringing in Ofa when the opportunity arose
10. Maintaining the kevlar spine of a team whose players clearly like each other
B. Bad Toonie Things
1. Signing Macdonald and Parris
2. Not telling Grant that giving away penalties faster than Big Mike can win them is a Bad Thing
3. Thinking that Jedi is a lock
4. Presiding over the Inconsistency of Fozzy
5. Being Toonie
15 Ramont
14 Maitland
13 Hogg
12 Dunbar
11 van der Merwe
10 Jackson
9 Cusiter

George, very amusing in your usual way but I feel you are being a tad unfair inasmuch as you can't criticise Toonie for "Being Toonie". IT'S NOT HIS FAULT. Although I agree that Fozzy has been a bit hit and miss this season: it is only his second season and he should be looked after/ nurtured as he is potentially a very special player. Not too sure about Jedi, he doesn't seem to make much of an impact when he comes on. Also your dream back line omits; Schlong, Seymour, Niko, Murchie and Wight. Not a bad set of alternatives! I think we are heading in the right direction and with a full squad we shouldn't expect any less than the play offs. Time for my sedatives.

Re: Rabo Direct Pro12 Treviso v Glasgow Warriors
Well I wouldn't say Toonie has been majorly involved in the signings... More of a Lineen thing. He's the chief talent scout, Scotland's very own David Humphreys.
Also Jedi at lock was one of Lineen's poor moves that came about due to Ryder being untested and Richie/Al being the only options at the time. At least we don't have Big Bob in second row anymore!

Yes GC giving Scott Wight (or Peter Wight as the incompetent chocolate starfish at the Hootsman still call him ) a chance to redeem himself after last year v Treviso was a masterstroke. Still think Strauss and Maitland were PERSUADED to sign for the GWs by Sean Lineen as he knows where his loyalties lie ! Cannot wait to see Maitland and DTH on either wing
