The Aston Villa it’s good to be back thread
Great win on Monday.
Gonna be an interesting summer ahead for the villa. Hopefully get whatever loan players we can signed up.
Mings and Axel would be a great start.
We need a decent left back. Another attacking midfielder, defensive midfielder.
Another striker. Owners have said they will spend a good bit of money. Hopefully it’s used wisely.
Have enjoyed the championship to be honest, but a great feeling to be back.
If we didn’t win Monday, would of been a long time in the championship.
Wasn’t looking possible back in March. Incredible run did the job in the end. Was a great time. Certainly won’t go on any kind of run next season.
Fair play to Smith, Terry and the rest of the coaches and back room staff.
Here’s hoping to another 20+ and more years in the top flight.
Will enjoy the summer and look forward to the fixtures.

So, have signed El Ghazi on a permanent deal. Jota and now Wesley Moraes. Never heard of him. Lot of money, only young.
Hopefully get Mings signed. Another centre back, left back.
Spurs first up away in front of the cameras. Tough test to start with, but looking forward to it.

Re: The Aston Villa it’s good to be back thread
A week to go. Spent a lot of money on a lot of players.
Had to really, to replace the 11 or so that left.
Have played well in pre season, scoring a good few goals.
RB Leipzig today.
Hopefully we won’t be in a relegation battle this season.
Not a good thing to be involved in.
Quietly optimistic about this season.
Looking forward to next Saturday and the tough test of Spurs away.

Great win tonight. Much needed. Also to keep a clean sheet
Glad Wesley got off the mark.
Hopefully can push on after a tough start.

Great result. Good to get the win, no matter how well you think you're playing if you're not getting results it doesn't take long for the confidence to go. Palace away next, once had the misfortune of watching Villa lose to Wimbledon at Selhurst Park, was a particularly unpleasant Saturday afternoon.

Great atmosphere in fairness. Great to see VP full.
Hopefully get to a home game soon.
Off to selhurst park on Saturday.
Will be the third time.
Seen us lose 4-1 and win 1-0. Hopefully another 3 points. Another tough game. Will enjoy the bank holiday more now.

Frustrating night. 2 points dropped. West Ham were there for the taking when down to 10 men. They could have won it themselves though.
Our passing was poor tonight.
Attack isn’t great, rely on McGinn and Grealish to much. Wesley still finding his feet it seeems.
On another night we may well have nicked it.
Clean sheet and another point on the plus sides. Every point is vital.
Still early, but we need to take our chances.
Onto Sunday and a trip to Arsenal. Another tough one. Hopefully get something out of it.
Again, pretty frustrating tonight.

Pish poor second half. 1-0 up against 10 men and we were poor again. Something needs to change fast, I’m not talking about the manager, although he could have made some changes earlier than he did. Glad Wesley scored, but he doesn’t seem to do much else.
Silly mistakes and poor defending again cost us.
Knew Arsenal would get the second, from there not surprised we lost.
Positives, we scored 2 goals away from home against a top 6 side.
Shame we couldn’t have come away with anything else.
Off up to VP next Saturday. Burnley. Nothing less than 3 points will do.

Another disappointing result. Yes a point(every one will be vital), but we can’t hold onto a lead. We are sitting back when go ahead. Inviting the opposition on. Poor defensive mistakes again.
My prediction on Wesley being poor this season is looking correct so far.
Hopefully he can turn it around and the team.
Not looking good.
Norwich a, Brighton h, probably need 6 points from those games.
Then it’s City a, Liverpool h.
Don’t even get me started on fing VAR

Not today Galted. Our day. I know Norwich has a good few players out, but we did what City couldn’t.
Great performance. Just what we needed. Good to see Wesley score 2. Shame he didn’t get the hatrick and we didn’t win 6-0, but he’ll great result all the same.
Be a tough game at home to Brighton in 2 weeks after their great result today. 3 points would be a good birthday present.

Hope that's a bit of a boost for the confidence and that you get your birthday wish, Westy. Mine's in December and year after year I'd get a defeat by Utd as a present.

So frustrating/annoying to lose it so late.
Sadly could see it a mile off. Gonna sit back that much against a team like Liverpool your asking for trouble.
Some of our players need to get stuck in a bit more and not be afraid to make a damn tackle.
We didn’t show enough second half. One or two half chances.

Worst performance of the season.
Nakamba and Trezeguet only 2 that played well.
Injuries don’t help, but have to play better than that.
Big game in 2 weeks against Newcastle.

Really need to sign another striker in jan.
I’d like to see Kodjia given a run out for a few games.
We missed Jack today. Also McGinn’s worst game in a villa shirt.

Would have taken a point before the game, but a shame not to take all 3.
To good goals though.
Grealish edging closer to the England squad, well that’s my view.
A lapse of concentration costing us.
Happy enough though.
Onto Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

westi,
Sorry to see that former PFC great (or at least, prolific goalscorer, often in the same team as Tony Barton) Ron Saunders has left us. Remember reading some sad tales of his waning years, and that was two or three years ago.

Re: The Aston Villa it’s good to be back thread
Westi,
I probably did see Ron Saunders at the tail end of his playing career when he was with Charlton but can't claim to remember it. However, I certainly well recall him managing the Villa in the '70s and into the '80s. Two League Cup wins and then winning Division One, the top tier at that time, fielding only 14 players throughout the entire season. That is something that will never be repeated!
Btw, if Olly is looking in, I'm pretty sure Saunders was in charge when Norwich reached the top division for the first time.

Very poor performance today. Poor penalty form Jack to.
Hopefully the confidence hasn’t gone.
Next 3 games are massive. Nothing less than 9 points.
Hopefully will be looking forward to a cup semi final before next Saturday.

The bad run wasn't entirely unexpected having played the top 6 in the previous 9 games but the worry was that the confidence might take a knock. Hopefully we can string a few wins together.

Thought the Liverpool youngsters played very well.
Good to see Kodjia getting on the score sheet and Wesley to.
Nyland had a good game to. Good to see Chester get some game time.
Great to get the win, but these next 3 games are huge.

That’s it Galted. Think he is. He doesn’t seem to have an answer.
Few of the lads said it was beyond woeful today.
Yep starting to get a bit concerned. These three games are massive. Nothing less than 9 points. Well now 6 at best. Can’t see it.
Sadly got to the the point that I wouldn’t be surprised if we lost the next two.
I’m a fan of Dean, but he needs to wake up and change things.

That's a massive relief. Looked disjointed going forward and fragile at the back, especially in the first half but the goal changed things massively, funny what a bit of confidence can do. Hopefully can get a bit of a run going.

Trezeguet and Luiz poor again.
Thought Hause played well. Heaton made a couple of decent saves.
Need another striker and winger in jan.

Starting to remind me of the relegation season, going into games expecting to lose without a fight. Particularly galling that's it's 3 points out of 9 against the bottom 3 going into the last three games. Take away a slightly fortuitous win against Norwich and it's 1 goal against 6. Hopefully Smith can turn it around, wouldn't be too happy to see him go though that is liable to change.

Re: The Aston Villa it’s good to be back thread
If something doesn’t change he may have to, although just signed a 4 year deal recently.
I just think he’s a bit out of his depth. Did great in getting us to the prem last season from where we were when he took over.
Different ball game in the premiership.
I like him and don’t want to see him go as he’s a villa fan.
Need to question some of his signings though.
Don’t think we are going to sign to many in jan. Hopefully we can get a striker and another winger.
Also keep Jack in the middle.
Oh and the players need to be up for it and not roll over to easily.

If Villa beat Spurs on Sunday it will be a win on each day of the week this season, apparently this hasn't been done in the Premier League before. Would be even more remarkable in that it would be only the 8th win. Big if of course.

FFS. Didn’t deserve to loose that.
But typical Villa, mistake at the end cost us.
That point could of been valuable come end of the season.
So annoying.

Watched the second half today.
One of the worst displays, if not the worst display of the season.
Just no fight or passion in the team.
Worried for next Sunday.

Thought we did well overall yesterday.
Defended well, part from their two goals (second was a goal kick all day long). Ref had a decent view of it.
Samatta took his goal well and is looking a really good signing.
Hopefully this will give the team the confidence and we play well for the rest of the season in our bid for survival.

Well that was beyond sh1te.
Nobody looks interested. There is no fight or passion from anyone.
Players are to weak.
Smith needs to go. He hasn’t a clue.
Back to the championship we go.
Sad thing is, can’t really say we even have it a go this season.
About as bad as 15/16 season.

Can't really disagree. It's reached a stage where if we get any kind of a result from a game it's a shock, no matter who we're playing. Only hope for this season is McGinn's return but, sad to say it, I don't think Smith should stay.

I've spent most of the season hoping/assuming Villa would stay up and that Smith would have had a season in the Premier League under his belt to build on but they just seem so listless and clueless. They play as though Villa had been made bankrupt and are due to be wound up at the end of the season.
Wouldn't mind being proved wrong though.
