If the womens waiting list is shorter would it be worth transitioning to get a Muirfield membership?

Just another token gesture Mac in regards to equality. Same as happens at the R&A. They aren't any more equal then they used to be. They still get special privileges at St. Andrews so equality means nothing more to them than it did before.

Bit of a joke isn't it.
NHS - we've decided to roll out this life saving treatment for xyz condition that affects 50% of the population.
2 years later we've agreed to let 12 people have access, once they've passed a rigorous peer approved vetting process.

More like they're in a half nelson and are being forced to give 12 people of the opposite sex access when they don't want to at all. The R&A, Muirfield and all these organisations are transparently dishonest.

Of course I do Mac, who wants to be part of a club that is exclusively full of men, especially the type you get in golf clubs?
Unfortunately I have to be a member of a club in St.Andrews to hold a links ticket. All three (there's 4 but you need to be in 1 of the 3 to get into the 4th) have at one time been all male clubs. They're terrible places and people still give the stink eye when they see a woman in their clubhouse.
As for equal status, I'd like to see the word "men's" and "women's" removed from the tee category and replaced with ones of ability. There's tons of men who should be off the Red Tees and plenty women who could play off the tees that are traditionally "men's". I'm sure you'd agree with that.

I am sort of flabbergasted, it's like I could have written that post.
The tee marker point is crucial for speeding things up. Get the wild higher handicap players on the shortest tees and hopefully less time will be spent looking for errant drives because they can go for irons and hybrids off the tee if they want.
Looking for balls is just the pits.

If you ever watch a hacker carve it into the rough you'll usually notice two things:
1. They very rarely watch the ball finish up.
2. They usually look about 100 yards further on than they've ever hit it in their lives.
However it's just one of the many reasons why golf is ridiculously slow at times.

Re: Muirfield invites ladies to join
Please to say that my club from the off in 1993 was equal for ladies and gents no tee /day restrictions but also equal green fees.We do try to group the ladies together in comps for obvious reasons.
A friend of mine now well into his 80 s has campaigned long and hard to be able to play off the red tees.He is the most enthusiastic golfer and person in general but wants to continue enjoying the game despite loosing yards due to age.He put forward a long article on the subject which I think went into Todays Golfer magazine last year.Lot of sense in it to keep these guys involved -happy to have a handicap adjustment but wants to play golf that he can enjoy rather than endure.

Surely if you there are those worrying about his handicap just get him to put three cards in off the reds?

Re: Muirfield invites ladies to join
Hi Mac at present he is not allowed to play off the red(ladies)tees but he struggles for carry off yellow and white which are the tees generally in use ,he would be happy to take a slight reduction in handicap ( think he is off about 30) to really enjoy his golf again and feel involved. This is top class ex president captain musician organiser just the kind of guy every golf club needs
Open website is still not functioning at all I would expect the sponsors listed all over it to be having a serious word.Im going to have a couple of hours at Holinwell pm tomorrow to see the business end

Re: Muirfield invites ladies to join
I can get into the Open website quite easily. The results for the regional qualifying were posted, but they didn't tell you where the individuals would play their next round. Just been on the website again, but still no listing of players for each location. Hollinwell is HEREdynamark wrote:Open website is still not functioning at all I would expect the sponsors listed all over it to be having a serious word.Im going to have a couple of hours at Holinwell pm tomorrow to see the business end

Update. I found the draw. In case you still can't get on I'll list it in a bit. It's HERE if you can get to it.

First line is their name, second line is their club or affiliation. First tee around 06.30 last player goes off on their second round just after 4 pm.

Our club put in new tees recently. Used to be white and blue (played mostly by men) and red (played exclusively by women). They added senior tees which are a manly shade of green and are just a little bit longer than red but significantly shorter than white on the longer holes. It meant adding a couple of new tee boxes and lengthening existing red tee boxes. They've proved very popular. For a lot of men there's a certain stigma attached to playing off red tees, but give them green tees of a similar length and they love it !

Plunky,
Are you specifically referring to moi?
Fortunately, both courses I tend to play don't give a monkey's what tees men, women, children use so long as they pay their greens fees.

I think our course is going to do the same with green tees. It’s in our 5 year maintenance plan.

Actually, I heard that you are sneaky long off the tee Kwini ! I think our courses did it partly for the many senior members who find certain holes too long for them, but also to help with the pace of play in summer when we have may so many tourists clogging up the courses.
We've noticed in Bermuda that the longer courses have developed hybrid score cards to encourage men to play most holes from the white tees but move forward to the senior tees on certain long holes. So they can play the course a little shorter but can still post an honest handicap if they want to. Apparently that's been pretty popular.

I thought Bermuda was a type of grass not a place !
I like the green tee idea it just needs to be represented on the card with its own SSS its a question of enjoyment for the 'shorter' senior player .

You really act like a complete arse at times Mac.
I repeatedly ask you for evidence of anything racist that I've ever said to back up your moronic accusations and you've never managed a single thing.
First of all, we didn't have any "staff" as you put it. Secondly I have already told you that I can't remember a single thing about being there, so how would it sculpt any views that YOU think I have (but can't provide any evidence for)?

Either...
Churchill deemed him of national importance and evacuated him out of harm's way or possibly he popped out in an NHS hospital, called the nurses obesity their own fault for being lazy greedy bas*tards, laughed at an American intern's name and shat on the feet of the hospital chaplain for having a lamentable belief system and had to be moved to the Caribbean to prevent reprisals.
It's only recently that Diggers confirmed his former chaplaincy in the NHS before teaching, so I suspect the latter as it would explain some of the apparent enmity
