The Trump Presidency
First topic message reminder :
Yes... and also the fact that he has just a touch of olde worlde charm (probably brutally drummed into him from the NY Military Academy) despite his apparently frightening unpredictability in this day and age.
Galted wrote:Pal Joey wrote:Just between us few on here... I have a feeling the Queen likes Trump.
Don't ask me to explain why but their body language seemed to be in a sort of comfortable harmony when they stood beside each other in June or whenever it was. And I think he quite likes all of that pomp and ceremony... as someone who likes being the centre of attention would.
He's a cross between a court jester and a village idiot so she would love him. Probably lets him run round the grounds with the corgis.

The usual Democratic machine stitch up regarding Tulsi Gabbard the Candidate that took down the chosen one in Harris..
To get into the next debate stage you needed 130,000 individual donations....Tulsi has those..
But now you need to be over 2% in "respectable polls as designated by the Dem grandees"....She is over 2% in 8 polls but hasn't qualified because they aren't acceptable polls to the Committee who refuse to release the Pollsters that are acceptable !!..
They never learn..

Sad isn't it? An utter tw@t in The White House and an opposition who seem to enjoy shooting themselves in the foot. Bit like the U.K. really.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:The usual Democratic machine stitch up regarding Tulsi Gabbard the Candidate that took down the chosen one in Harris..

ABC poll has Trump's approval down 6 to 38% ...
Be surprised if he gets re-elected below the mid 40s..
Must be remembered Truman's shock re-election over Dewey is the lowest approval of a President to win again and he was on 45..
No corrupt Clinton this time and even she won the popular vote.

Re: The Trump Presidency
I think (hope) Trump's goose is cooked for 2020. He may get his core support out, but as far as I can see, he's done none of what was promised for the so-called rust belt workers has he? At the same time, I suspect he's energised far more people who want him out to vote next time and many of the middle-ground floating voters might not find him so appealing. If his dumb tariffs cause pain as most expect, can't see that helping him much either. Here's hoping.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:ABC poll has Trump's approval down 6 to 38% ...

On the latter, was playing golf with a guy involved with GE in Europe the other week and he reported they're at a complete loss in understanding Trump's approach. They're having to make big financial decisions that are definitely not favouring the US as Trump claims.

Re: The Trump Presidency
Five thirty eight/IPsos..
Which Democrats would you consider voting for ??
Biden 57%
Warren 44%
Sanders 42%
Harris 27%
Buttigieg 21%.
Next debate soon and it looks like the Establishment choice Harris hasn't got her tormentor Gabbard there after the disgraceful shaft..
Maybe she can recover lost ground..
Biden has been woeful but it doesn't seem to hurt his numbers.

Re: The Trump Presidency
Biden is so slow you can almost hear his brains moving...In the last three years he seems to have lost something....
Like usual whoever won pertains to the politics of the outfit watching.
TYT....Warren and Sanders..
The Hill...Biden and Beto..
The main focus was on Medicare for all...With bought and paid for types like Biden and Harris saying it will bankrupt Anerica..
But it's time for a system that doesn't bankrupt good Families in the event of a loved one falling sick...
Time some of the stragglers dropped out too..
Too many in the race to have a good debate.

Re: The Trump Presidency
Finally a formal impeachment inquiry has been filed. Its unlikely to pass the Senate, but the Republicans have a pretty stark choice in front of them. Either uphold the rule of law and the constitution or continue to support a President who conspires with foreign governments to get involved in domestic electoral candidates.
Should really be an easy choice. For anyone with morals anyway.

We have it bad here at the moment, but at least we don't have US politics. Trump in the White House, GOP debasing their history, Pelosi not wanting to impeach and a Senate that wouldn't support it even if it was clear, Supreme Court utterly dysfunctional etc etc.

Re: The Trump Presidency
The US system does seem pretty mangled right now. The President has all but admitted using US taxpayer money as a bargaining chip in order to extort a foreign government into investigating the family of a political rival.
But the GOP insist it's a witch-hunt.

Re: The Trump Presidency
I assume the Republicans will be hoping that neither the tape nor the transcript gets released. It's hard to believe that the evidence would absolve him given the fact that both he and his TV lawyer have admitted to the allegation.
For Republicans, it would be tough to justify not voting I favor of removing Donald if there is real, tangible evidence of the allegation. But also, politically, going forward with Mike Pence as president and 2020 candidate, even if only for a year, may well be suicide. He lacks the charisma(?) That Donald has, and even then Donald got pumped by 3 million votes in the national elections, and Republicans got pumped by 10 million nationwide in the 2018 mid-terms, the momentum is definitely with the Democrats, especially considering they basically demolished the Republicans in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Three states which Trump squeaked in 2016.
On a seperate note it's wild that you can ask Russia on live TV to help you find a candidate's emails and that's okay, but threatening a president over the phone is a step too far.

Aah I see he has. He flat out refused a day or two ago ago, and I clearly haven't been following the story closely. Looking into it a bit I see it's Mike Pompeo who didn't want it released. My bad.
Says the transcript won't be verbatim as well. What on earth is the point of it then?

Doesnt matter if its verbatim or not, the MAGA Muppets will still use it as an argument for him. The transcript released could be "I never did anything bad, honest" and they would lap it up.

Yes 37
No..57
Similar figures to the first poll taken after Nixon found himself in a similar position..
Probably not much comfort for him then..

Not a great look for the Don here. He's pretty much been caught dead to rights. If he survives this (a possibility I simply can't ignore), I'm not sure the United States' system of governance will ever be the same again. Trump has already normalized a revolving door of not particularly qualified people working in places they absolutely should not be working in. He's normalized what was initially a hostile relationship with the press and then one where he went months without briefings. If he can ride this out, it is truly concerning what a more capable mind will be capable of doing in that seat.

Re: The Trump Presidency
I suspect in this case Trump doesn't think he has done anything wrong, because he has been doing similar in his business dealings for years - a bit of carrot and stick negotiations to get what is good for him.
The problem is that the President of the USA, and Commander in Chief of their armed forces, has to be held to a higher standard of ethical behaviour and (for want of a better term) Patriotism than an international business man. In other words, Donald Trump may be allowed to do these things on a personal level, but The President of the United States (whoever that may be) is limited by the Constitution as to what is and is not acceptable with regard to liaising with foreign governments.
Kingraf makes good points about the 'not particularly qualified' (I'd add 'or suitable' to that)people appointed to various roles within the White House, and how the absurd has been normalised. We seem to have moved beyond the situation where 'everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but is not entitled to their own facts.'

You'd hope the system is robust enough that there is only so long someone can plead ignorance and "fake news" to get around repeated allegations of different things.
Let's hope that his arrogance in his position ends up being his downfall.

Once you are caught misrepresenting and puking up falsehoods. .Any sensible opponent will chuck fake news at you regardless of what you say in the future..

It was something else, wasn't it? It reminded me of the press conference he gave after the mid-terms, when he reacted furiously when anyone wanted to ask about the house as opposed to the senate.

Biden (and the US for that matter) weren't the only ones asking for that guy's removal were they? Anyway, it's an aside from the charges against Trump - Biden could be as bent as a nine bob note and Trump would still have committed an almost certain impeachable offence in asking for foreign powers to investigate a direct political rival.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:Pr4wn wrote:I see you're responding to the dog whistle, Truss.
