Shocking play to be honest. Some players need to have a look at themselves.

Aled Davies has hardly been the problem here.
Too many players avoiding injury, but who cares. Good run out for a few players, showing where we're weak.

One major issue today for Wales - support lines. Completely lacking. It's so obvious, so easy to defend - even half breaks go nowhere because there are practically no support lines - the only pass is maybe the winger on the outside. Brilliant. Really inventive stuff. If there's one thing that changes post-Gatland, you have to hope it's that/the general attacking intent.

Better game control and much better passing from 9 clearly the difference here.

Not really. He's clearly a better player but Wales still look fairy useless.

Wrong decision. That was a good tackle and turnover by Davies. Angus will do whatever he can to help Uruguay.

A bit harsh on James Davies I feel. Seemed to release the man before jackaling.

Haha. Jeez. Weird game this. Agree the ref is pretty fast and loose and he's allowed Uruguay to get away with all sorts of infringements, and it's made for a scrappy spectacle. Fair play on the try though. Some genuine jeopardy in the final 10 minutes here.

The play from 9 being the difference again, he started well and finished well - more than Aled has achieved in an entire career.

Pretty much identical performance to the Australians' v Georgia. Maybe at a lower standard, but similar - two teams that look totally disengaged and unprepared, with all eyes on the knockouts.

What an absolute chopper. The trainee medic had no need to try that dive to score the try.

He did it before against Australia a few years ago and got away with it - hard to tell but he fumbled it one handed. Clearly not big enough hands to score that way.

Absolutely. Well worth their win v Fiji and a good way to finish for them. Easily the most improved team since 2015.

I’m sure lots of players are doing degrees on the side! If someone was training to be an engineer why not mention that too?! All you hear is Dr this, medic that!
If you're a Dr of medicine you're very definitely 'a doctor'. It's also an old school job people can relate to/understand in the big, weird world of newspeak job titles and bogus qualifications. Degrees in other areas are a bit ambiguous - an engineer could be any number of things. If Ken Owens was a policeman, for instance, he'd literally always be called the Sheriff. Just a recognisable job - and also it jars a bit with the idea of rugby as this sport for big hulking idiots. Maybe also harks back to JPR as well - Wales are trying to play like its still the 70s in all fairness, so commentators can be forgiven.
This is actually incorrect. I am a doctor because I have a doctorate. A normal 'doctor' does not.

What's a 'normal doctor'? They're professionally and literally doctors. Don't be Ross from Friends and start asserting you're a 'real' doctor - comes across as needy and irrelevant, frankly.

Weirdly I think a few did ok.
Elias, Wainwright, Moriarty, Tipuric, James Davies, Tomos Williams, Josh Adams, Tipuric, and Rhys Carre all did well in their time on the field in an odd game.
Wyn Jones, Nicky Smith, Dee, Beard and Bradley, Aled Davies, Halfpenny, Watkin (utterly anonymous bar one rip - disappointed in him today more than most) all were pretty neutral: some good, some bad.
Patchell, Parkes, Amos and whoever else I've forgotted probably let the team down.

A normal doctor as in one that has a degree in medicine but not a higher degree. I have the right to call myself a doctor but I am not a doctor of medicine, just mathematics. It is something I am proud of, because it took time effort and ability to achieve. I'll ignore the rest of your statement because its irrelevant.
Anyway - back to the match

What i could not understand is why Halfpenny took the kicks at goal.
I thought Patchel would of got more of a chance. as he is back up to Biggar.

People want to talk up Uruguay because they are an amateur team who have played their hearts out and given one of the best teams in the world a decent game. It was a classic David v Golliath contest and old Dave did not do that badly, punched well above his weight.
I would have thought anyone who likes sport in general and rugby in particular would appreciate that.

Needy and irrelevant? What a toxic poster you are.
On the point above, we should adopt the American model to avoid confusion. MD (medical doctor) for those in medicine such as GPs and ‘doctor’ for those with doctorates.
Agreed 100%

A lot of them turned pro this year in the pro league in the US. The way they played, they're clearly not as amateur as people would perhaps believe. The benefits of going pro are pretty evident compared to 4 years ago.
That said, Wales still looked like a team that a. hand't prepared a single thing on the opposition and b. lacked cohesion out on the field. Nice try at the end though.

Are you sure they’re amateur? In what sense? They have all their players playing in a pro league. Angus was favouring them, seems to often be the case when playing a minnow. But for me that just made it more of a difficult spectacle, and of course it isn’t fair.
I would have thought anyone who likes a fair game with the ref not favouring the one side would understand that.

I don't think Gatland will be blaming the ref for Wales shortcomings today! They got what they needed from the game though and at the end of the day, that is all that matters to them going forward.
It was a banana skin game, with Uruguay having nothing to lose but that does not detract from what the South have brought to the tournament and to this game. Yes some of them are pro at a lower level for sure, but they don't play in games like this outside of a WC and it is great for the game that they can turn up and play like this.

To be fair its the same story with all these match ups. Win by 50 points and its 'only Uraguay/Tonga/Russia' etc. Play so so (but still get the bonus point) and its all about how useless you are.
The win was as expected. We still know that Wales have a handy 1st team but not much depth. Roll on QF.

Well, job done Wales. It may not have been pretty but that doesn't matter, the win matters. 19 points out of a possible 20 in the group stages containing Australia is already impressive.

Big Gee, who is blaming Gardener for these supposed shortcomings? Me and others have already alluded to what Wales’ real issues were, not bad to get 5 tries with shortcomings and a much changed team though. Uruguay have certainly improved, and played with a lot of pride and passion today, so perhaps I was mistaken not to acknowledge that. That doesn’t change the fact that Gardener favoured them and thus contributed to a poor spectacle - for me as a Wales fan anyway. I don’t necessarily think pointing this out makes me a bad person.

I am not sure that Gardner was too bad but he was very lenient on the Uruguayan infringements in the red zone in the first half.
Second half, he was far more balanced.
