Zebre v Glasgow Warriors Saturday 9th November 2019
Zebre v Glasgow Warriors
Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi
Parma
KO 15.00 (UK time)
Live on Premier Sport
We the warriors re discovered the missing mojo last weekend and delivered a thrashing to the Southern Kings. Probably worth pointing out though, that the Kings are likely to be the worst team in the league this season, so a decent win was probably the least that could have been expected. Still we have been surviving on thin gruel this season so far, so we have to take what we can get. A decent win in Italy though, which would leave us three from six and we can at least breath again.
A good win in Parma, given that we should have virtually the whole squad back again, should not be beyond us. There is also the carrot of places in the team to play in the first Euro tie against the Sale Sharks the following week and a raft of disappointed Scotland Internationals coming back into the fray with a lot to prove.
I am hoping we might see a team something along these lines:
1. Keeble
2. Turner
3. Fagerson Z
4. Mcdonald
5. Cummings
6. Harley
7. Gibbins
8. Fagerson M
9. Horne G
10. Hastings

12. Johnson
13. Jones H
14. Niko
15. Seymour

Re: Zebre v Glasgow Warriors Saturday 9th November 2019
I'd love to see Kebble start dominating games more. He's such a beast but doesn't stand out as much as he should do given his physical abilities.
Quick Google says he played his first game for Glasgow in Septebmer 2017 but I'm not sure when he arrived in the country - probably too late for the summer tour.
He's not got much competition for the loosehead spot (until Schoeman qualifies!) so he's got the chance to become an international regular.

He does dominate occasionally but then seems to get injured.
It would be good to see what he can do with a bif of a run of games

Re: Zebre v Glasgow Warriors Saturday 9th November 2019
WE have got a few hints about who might not be playing this week. Nicol, Ashe, Thompson and Flockhart all playing in the super 6.
Newspaper reports also suggesting that Tagive will get his first start for Glasgow, having impressed last week. He has waited a long time for his chance and deserves it, hopefully he will go well.

I thought fringe pro players weren't allowed to play for Super 6 teams? Which never made any sense.
Has Tagive not been at Glasgow for over a season now? Hope he's worth the wait!

He has been there 3 years now and is SQ. Missed a whole season with a ruptured achilles, but seemed rated enough to pick up another contract whilst that was going on.
He is a big, fast powerful winger who has not really had a chance to show his wares yet. We do need some of those at Glasgow, so glad to see what he can do.

Is Steyn injured or has he been taking consistency tips from Huw Jones?

He has played in the first 4 games this season, but on the wing, where it is fair to say, he does not look quite as effective.
It is also fair to say that none of the Glasgow backs looked effective playing outside Frisby and Thompson. I suppose they must have some empathy now, with the Edinburgh backs!
I think Jones is going to get a run in the team now, hopefully linked up with Johnson, which could be the Scotland centre partnership going forward.

Yeah I reckon Steyn is much better at 13. Problem is that's where all the competition is.

Re: Zebre v Glasgow Warriors Saturday 9th November 2019
Glasgow as predicted upping the ante and putting out a strong looking team prior to the first Euro tie next weekend.
Cummings, Wilson and Brown all return in the pack to add some ballast and experience.
Tommy Seymour gets a run out at FB, which is certainly worth a try with his ariel prowess while Kyle Steyn gets a shot in the position he did so much damage in last season at OC. I am a bit torn about this one, as I wanted Shuggy to keep playing and build on his form, which had looked to be returning. Steyn did play very well at the end of last season and from what we have seen so far this season, is clearly a centre and not a winger, so I guess he deserves his chance.
As predicted Ratu Tagive gets his chance to stake a claim at the other wing position, which may be up for grabs if TS is going to fill the FB slot.
Good to see Tom Gordon on the bench, another player who was doing great at the end of last season and has not really had any chance this year. He should be good for 20-25 mins as Fusaro tires in the second half.
If Glasgow have built up and early lead and have the points in the bag, expect Horne and Hastings to get pulled early and rested for next weekend.

Steyn ahead of Jones. It is Zebre I guess but still, Jones could do with a run of games.
Who is Glasgow's fullback now? Kennedy and/or Jackson? Seymour could be a good long term option to cover there a bit, he is a great defensive winger now and although he's declined a little in attack I think his knowledge of the game has increased.
Sure there'll be a few try's in this one.

I thought Paddy Kelly came through the age grades at fullback - surely he's talented enough to play there? or was that stafford McDowall?

Cummings, Wilson and Brown all return in the pack to add some ballast and experience. Cummings should play next week if he shows up well tomorrow. Batman has to dislodge BigBad who seems to have become DR's go to 6...let's face it would you like to tell Big Bob that he's been dropped? Chuckles needs to put in a good shift because Grant Stewart and Fitter And... are both looking up for the fray.
Kyle Steyn gets a shot in the position he did so much damage in last season at OC. Steyn did play very well at the end of last season and from what we have seen so far this season, is clearly a centre and not a winger, so I guess he deserves his chance. On the international threads we all bemoaned the fact that NotAPony wasn't getting selected but Seaman was putting in barnstorming performances and just missed out on the trip to Japan....Obviously Seaman wasn't Hardworking enough. I expect NotAPony to start next week with Seaman on the bench.
As predicted Ratu Tagive gets his chance to stake a claim at the other wing position, which may be up for grabs if TS is going to fill the FB slot.Looking ahead, wing could become a problem; DTH and TS are old enough to be mistaken for GC and myself in certain lights, Rozza Hughes seems unable to put a good run of games together and may finally have to accept that his time has come and gone, the Not Mad WeegieFijian and Robbie Nairn may well be the incumbents before long.
Good to see Tom Gordon on the bench, another player who was doing great at the end of last season and has not really had any chance this year. He should be good for 20-25 mins as Fusaro tires in the second half. DR really seems to rate Fozzie at 7. The competition is brutal there; Batman, Cully, Fozzie, the Mullet and then Matt Smith who was the pick of them before he was injured last season.
If Glasgow have built up and early lead and have the points in the bag, expect Horne and Hastings to get pulled early and rested for next weekend. The worry there is that we then have WHY??? at 9 so the backs are back to standing stationary waiting for the occasional bounce pass to come their way. Also Rhuaridh The Gin Peddler is at 10 and he will be a bit rusty having not played there since Tigertattie was under 19 stone.
Five points for Glasgow. As long as WHY??? doesn't come on until when all the hurly burly's done, when the battle's lost and won.

You’ve got to hand it to Zebre, the standard of talent in the stands is far better than what you see in Glasgow.

Try for Glasgow and a Zebre player in the bin, I suppose you could call that a treasonable start.

That was a very good try, just kept coming in waves.
Zebre are actually defending with some effort but it was like trying to hold back the tide.

I feel for Zebre; they are defending well, have done their homework and are reading Haircut's crossfield kicks but Glasgow are just a little bit better than them.
Excellent finish from NotMadWeegieFiji.
I see Kebble has been replaced, for a big man he gets injured ower easy.

Despite Glasgow making a real hash of that 2nd half, at no point did Zebre look like thy might take control of the game. Will they ever be able to replicate Benetton and improve beyond an occasional upset?

Well its a 5 pointer and some really good stuff at times in tough conditions.
We went off the boil once we had the BP, but that is understandable.
The season seems to be getting gradually back on track.
