SURREY VS HAMPSHIRE BOB WILLIS TROPHY
MORNE MORKEL & JASON ROY HAVE BOTH BEEN NAMED IN THE 13-MAN SQUAD FOR THE BOB WILLIS TROPHY FIXTURE WITH HAMPSHIRE AT ARUNDEL.
Morkel arrived in the UK earlier this week after travel restrictions had prevented the bowler from joining up with the squad before the start of the shortened season.
Roy is now available for selection after England’s ODI series with Ireland.
Tom Curran has been made unavailable for selection by the ECB.
Laurie Evans has had his loan from Sussex extended for this game. However, Adam Finch has returned to parent club Worcestershire with a slight thigh strain.
After back-to-back appearances in the Bob Willis Trophy, James Taylor is rested for this fixture.
Rory Burns, Sam Curran and Ollie Pope are all playing in the ongoing Test with Pakistan while Ben Foakes remains in the bubble in Southampton.
Hashim Amla remains in South Africa and the Club continue to work to secure a visa and travel arrangements for the batsman.
Jade Dernbach is progressing on his back-to-bowling programme. Jordan Clark (side strain), Liam Plunkett (hamstring), Reece Topley (groin) and Nicholas Kimber (knee) are sidelined for this one.
There is still no update on Nico Reifer
FULL SQUAD:
Mark Stoneman (capt)
Gus Atkinson
Scott Borthwick
Rikki Clarke
Matt Dunn
Laurie Evans
Will Jacks
Daniel Moriarty
Morne Morkel
Ryan Patel
Jason Roy
Jamie Smith (wk)
Amar Virdi
Getting sicked and tired of the Treatment of T.Curran and Foakes especially the latter.
Maybe Atkinson and Moriarty to miss out, very hard to call this one

Cheers, JimBob.
Currently away but quickly looking in. Very hard to call as you say. If we leave out Atkinson and Moriarty as you wonder, doesn’t that leave us a frontline bowler short? Maybe Patel benched with Roy or Borthwick opening. Then one of Atkinson, Moriarty and Dunn also missing out; I’ll say Moriarty.

Yeah tough one to call, you'd think it comes down to conditions but would be two of Atkinson, Moriarty, Dunn and Evans to miss out. Think I'd leave out Atkinson and make a choice between Moriarty and Evans in the morning. Outside chance too that we push Borthwick up to open and Patel is dropped.
I can't understand Tom Curran not playing, Foakes is in the bubble so somewhat understandable but TC isn't and he only bowled 15 or so overs against Ireland.

Re: SURREY VS HAMPSHIRE BOB WILLIS TROPHY
Our squad looking ridiculously thin. Guildford's man Barker missing for this one as well now, along with Vince, Dawson, Stevenson, Abbott (not returning this year)
Our team at the moment made up of mostly our second xi and academy!
Team likely to be:
Organ
Weatherley
Alsop
Northeast
Holland
Came
Mcmanus
Scriven
Fuller
Wheal
Crane
Which doesn't fill me with any confidence whatsoever.
Will pop in to this thread over the next few days to give a Hampshire perspective!

Re: SURREY VS HAMPSHIRE BOB WILLIS TROPHY
Saw a bit on the stream and just watched the highlights. Credit to Jimbo H's second string bowlers Holland and Wheal who used the conditions to maximum effect. However, our top 5 were poor and helped them along. Roy padding up with the ball cutting in was especially dopey.
At least Evans showed some fight and Smith some resolve. Hants remain well on top though.
Like others here, I don't understand why Clarke isn't playing and it's poor of Surrey not to have given an explanation.

Re: SURREY VS HAMPSHIRE BOB WILLIS TROPHY
Much better day here weather wise and not a million miles from Arundel. I'm very nearly always ''bat first '' when winning the toss but wonder if Stoneman got things wrong yesterday (as Goochie back on a new enhanced summer contract posted ).
Even though Evans and Smith batted well in their different ways yesterday, we're still in a heap of trouble and will be so even more if one of them goes early. You wouldn't want to put too much dosh on the last 4 wickets bringing up more than 20 runs.

At 120 runs you probably have enough already for a 1st innings lead.

Stumps 130 for 8
one more day of rain should see us get our first draw of the year.

172 all out. Useful runs from Morkel (although not up to the JOve standard) and Dunn at least stuck with him.
Virdi being stumped is worth a look. His feet - definitely his back foot - don't appear to move so he must have been standing out of his crease to leggie Crane.

Classy knock from Northeast, surprised he's never been called up for England tbh.
In his interview after he said about going on the attack in the morning and then 'having a go' so could be an interesting last days play..

Hi JimboH - despite your worries, your depleted side has put in a fine performance so far.
From your point of view, I definitely agree with Northeast about going on the attack this morning. Try to get the lead beyond 140 and then give us 10 or 15 minutes before lunch would be my aim in his shoes. Then hope Holland continues where he left off in the first dig and that our batters turn to jelly whenever Crane gets the ball.
You also need to hope the weather holds. So changeable and random atm.

20 mins play from the start, 20 more runs, no wkts and then a rain delay.
Play about to resume with 15 overs lost in the day. JimBob (not JimboH) might just be able to celebrate a draw tonight!

Re: SURREY VS HAMPSHIRE BOB WILLIS TROPHY
Hants 298 all out. A lead of 126.
A sixfer for Virdi but it was Dunn who caught my eye with 3 wickets and some proper fast bowling.
Surrey should be able to bat out the rest of the day for the draw and may even get some help from the weather gods. However, 2 back in the hutch early on and it'll be a nervous time ....

Re: SURREY VS HAMPSHIRE BOB WILLIS TROPHY
Hi all - just found my login. As someone said during the last game, this must be the weakest Surrey line-up in living memory - and I go back to the 70s. Yes we're without a dozen or so players, but the powers that be must have known the England players would be unavailable and the injured are rubbish like Dernbach.

Credit to Hants - who, as JimboH pointed out before the game started, are also missing some regulars - but our batting has been awful.

May not even be necessary but just possible that Hants could get an extra over in if Crane zaps through his overs.

I like your optimism that it will get that far guildford!
