Haye Hypothetically speaking
Purely hypothetical
If David Haye goes on to unify the HW scene in what would be his 28th fight, having already unified the CW scene(regardless of opposition)
To me it seems a very low number of fights to achieve what he has, does this show how poor the divisions are? Or very good match making on the part of Haye/Booth?
Thanks in advance

I believe Holyfield did the same thing in 25 fights.

Re: Haye Hypothetically speaking
The cruiserweight division was and still is weak so there were not a huge number of quality opponents he had to wait in line to fight to earn his belts. Still all credit to him as it's hard to do nonetheless.
Same really with the HW division but again that's not his doing.

Re: Haye Hypothetically speaking
The cruiserweight division was better than it had been for many years when Haye was there but due to his well documented weight problems, he moved up. Would have been nice to see him fight Cunningham, Wlod and Adamek but it wasn't to be.
I think he's done Heavyweight the right way. I really didn't want him jumping straight into a Wlad fight but rather have a few fights and get used to the extra weight - which he has done. (He could have done without Harrison)
So, no excuses from me if he loses to Wlad.

if haye did beat wlad and vitali, then went on to retire straight away he would leave the heavyweight scene in tatters.

He'll have made his money and unified the titles, which has been his aim all along. Its always been the plan, retire before the effects of being punched in the head take their toll. You are suggesting he should stay on, at the possible detriment to his own health, in order to prevent the heavyweight scene from tattering? Vitali would surely retire if beaten by Haye, which leaves a re-match with Wlad as the only realistic option. Perhaps if the first fight is a classic he would take a re-match, but after that there is nobody left and DH should be allowed to retire and enjoy his fortune.

Re: Haye Hypothetically speaking
was only thinking about this before, he held 3 out of 4 at cw, and will hold 3 out of 4 at heavy if he beats wlad, in todays world of alpha belts and weight jumpers there cant be many who have done it recently, certainly cant get more unified than that when the organisations activily seek different champs these days.
im sure there have been many old one belt champs but any one else unified two divisions back to back like haye could in todays four belt organisations?

Re: Haye Hypothetically speaking
If he wins both fights(putting aside that he said hes retiring) why not fight adamek. A fight he should have had at cruiser anyway. Doesnt really matter what happens in the vitali-adamek fight as people would still want and pay to see it.

Nah he will take Vitali on if he does Wlad, I'm certain of it. However if the Haye Wlad fight is about as farcical as the Haye Harrison I wonder whether it would happen and wonder if it does what the PPV Numbers would be like.

Re: Haye Hypothetically speaking
There is no way Haye vs Wlad could be as farcical as the Harrison fight, even if the action in the fight divebombs to the abominable depths of that lacklustre contest, at least the two fighters involved have in some way earned the right to be there.

Re: Haye Hypothetically speaking
People would be left missing him. They'd see that for all his arrogance he walked the walk and lived up to his word.
I still say that Haye's conduct building up to Wlad is entirely mindgames designed for a particular opponent's state of mind, that it's tactical and not meant from the depths of his heart. I also still say Haye will win by stoppage.
I'll happily own up if I'm wrong.

~ Why Mr. Sherm, sir, surely that is the most purely hypothetical nonsense a boxing fan can serve up for the moment.
Why sir, I shall unify the heavyweight division before Mr. Haye does, you can bet his rabbit lined booties on it!
