Healy would be a bit of surprise.....only 1 English prop, a sign of things to come?

Sometimes I think he's past it, but then he always goes and plays well. Probably third choice on current ability though.

Good captain my problem is that the South African monsters in the second row and back row will be licking their lips at that selection...

He may be captain but that doesn't mean he'll start. Warburton didn't start the first test Vs NZ.
I hope AWJ doesn't start he doesn't look good enough for me.

Yeah it's not like he played a major part in helping Wales win the 6 nations this year or was in the many media outlets team of the tournaments.... oh wait

I'd be underwhelmed if it is Healy. A solid player but not much impact there. One English prop is a considerable turnaround probably due to the poor 6N. All of Genge, Sinckler and Stuart will be at a good age for the next tour. Stuart arguably for the one after that if he's hasn't been overtaken by then.

Excellent leader but who made costly mistakes repeatedly in his own 22. Was extremely lucky not to get binned Vs France and he cost his side points. Played as much a part in losing them the grand slam as he did in winning the 6N The Irish locks are easily the form options if you can't see that then the Welsh tinted specs are on.
Also how many media outlets also rate Owen Farrell highly even though he rarely plays well for England?

I agree the Irish locks are the 2 form locks but I think Gatland may look to use Beirne at 6 which I would then look at AWJ taking the other lock position.

lostinwales wrote:alive555 wrote:lostinwales wrote:alive555 wrote:lostinwales wrote:alive555 wrote:Sgt_Pooly wrote:DVM has a great chance but there's big question marks regarding his defence and rightly so.
Do his attacking attributes outweigh his potential defensive issues? I'd be inclined to take him tbh, just for the potential match up against Kolbe...it would be immense to watch.
Total Nonsense
MISSED TACKLES 6 NATIONS
DVM - 3 IN 400 MINS
LRZ - 9 IN 400 MINS
MAY - 5 IN 400 MINS
ADAMS - 9 IN 240 MINS
WATSON - 7 IN 395 MINS
DVM had the best defensive stats.
According to that stats site DVM made 13 tackles and missed 3 - 18.75%
May made 25 and missed 5 - so 16.67%
So you are wrong
sharpen up i said "missed tackles"
but anyway np lets use tackles and missed tackles
here you go
made / missed
DVM - 13 /3 in 400 min = missed 1 every 92 min or 23%
May - 25/ 5 in 400 min = missed 1 every 80 min or 20%
Watson - 15 / 7 in 395 = missed 1 every 56 min or 50%
RZ - 28/ 9 IN 400 = missed 1 every 44 min or 32%
Adams - 10 / 6 in 240 = missed 1 every 40 min or 60%
So he missed the fewest tackles of all the wingers in the 6n, and as a % of tackles he was literally the same as May .
So if you want to see who is the defensive liability need look no further than the stats above.
This is an exercise of the futility of statistics, or making them say what you want, or stretching a little knowledge a very very long way. On your basis the best defensive winger is the guy who avoids making any tackles at all.
I never said that at all. You have all the stats for all the wingers in full.
Is dvm a "defensive liability" according to the stats
No.
Adams is though
Now you are moving your position which is good. DVM doesn't appear to be a defensive liability which is good. It would be interesting to see how many tries were scored against the different wingers on their flank, as that would also be a useful measure.
But you don't pick DVM just for his defense.
Of course not. I didnt need to because he was pretty much top in every category.

Ryan, Henderson and then Beirne at 6. There is of course some games before the tests and you'd assume that AWJ and Itoje will be looking to make an impact in those.

Interesting. The split seems to be
11 Welsh
10 English
8 Irish
7 Scottish
Yeah I don't get May missing out and think Care is a very left field choice. Also think that Gray is a touch fortunate but the bulk of the players I think most people could agree with.
No Sexton is also interesting.

It's a slim pickings area to be fair. Care is the best English scrum half for me so no great shakes there. I'd have took Davies/Webb over Williams but think they have injury concerns?

Lets think. We have the following:-
Sam Simmonds
Kieron Hardy
Connor Murray
Gibson Park
Ali Price
Thomos Williams
Gareth Davies
Danny Care
I suppose it's three from that lot. Not to mention Rhys Webb ???

Generally agree Care is enjoying Quins resurgence but I just don't see the magic that is demanding a recall. He looks the same flashy in attack but no game management that has been the case his entire career. All I see is some former teammates and his own podcast talking him up. If we're picking best English scrum half I'm not sure whether he's making the top 5 it's close. Certainly the younger options of Mitchell and Randall are well ahead in my book.
I'd have liked to see two of Price, Hardy and Davies competing with Murray personally.

Yeah ex-Wales manager picks the most experienced international available and his former captain. No real surprise. Add in the 6N win and there's a reason he was the run away favourite at the bookies.

If the squad is correct Slade could well be starting the tests at 13 with Henshaw at 12. The fact he's not back playing makes his omission understandable but there does appear to be a huge Manu Tuilagi shaped hole in that squad. You almost have to start with DVDM.
