2021 England v NZ / World Test Championship Final Tipping Competition
First topic message reminder :
2021 England v NZ / World Test Championship Final
Tipping Competition Rules:
1.
Pick 2 (two) batsmen and 2 (two) bowlers from both England and New Zealand (India and NZ for the WTC Final) whom you think will score the most runs and take the most wickets. You get both batting and bowling points per innings so a bowler who scores runs has both batting and bowling scores added together.
e.g.
Conway, Williamson, Jamieson, Wagner
Sibley, Root, Broad, Anderson
2.
Pick 1 (one) fielder from each team; excluding wicket keepers for most catches in the Series.
It can be a bowler (for c&b) if you want.
e.g.
Taylor, Pope
3.
Select which wicket keeper will take the greatest number of catches, stumpings and run outs combined for each Test.
If a wicket keeper is injured then the replacement keeper's figures shall be used.
e.g.
Bracey or Watling... or "the same" amount of dismissals.
4.
Predict the Toss:
a) Who wins the toss?
e.g.
New Zealand
b) Winning captain's decision - bat or field?
e.g.
Bat
5.
a) Predict the Test result. 150 points for WTC Final.
e.g.
New Zealand
Selections must be posted a minimum one (1) hour before the commencement of play. No PM reminders shall be sent.
Scoring:
1.
1 point for every run scored by your nominated batsmen. Add together for each Test.
Bonus 20 points for 100 runs.
extra 25 points for 150 runs.
extra 40 points for 200 runs.
extra 50 points for 250 runs.
extra 60 bonus points for 300+ runs.
Note: the batting & bowling score bonuses accumulate so;
Batting:
100 runs = 120 points. A player scores 127 + 20 = 147 points.
150 runs = 195 points. A player scores 176 + 20 + 25 = 221 points.
200 runs = 285 points. A player scores 243 + 20 + 25 + 40 = 328 points.
250 runs = 385 points. A player scores 282 + 20 + 25 + 40 + 50 = 417 points
300+ runs = 445 points. A player scores 309 + 20 + 25 + 40 + 50 + 60 = 504 points.
Bowling:
20 points per wicket with a bonus 50 points for a 5-fer.
An extra 35 points for 6-fer, 40 for 7-fer, 45 for 8-fer, 50 for 9-fer.
An extra 100 bonus points for a 10-fer.
5 wickets = 100 + 50 = 150 points
6 wickets = 120 + 50 + 35 = 205 points.
7 wickets = 140 + 50 + 35 + 40 = 265 points
8 wickets = 160 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 = 330 points
9 wickets = 180 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 + 50 = 400 points
10 wickets = 200 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 + 50 + 100 = 520 points
Caught and bowled = 20 points for the wicket + 25 bonus points for the catch = 45 points.
2.
Fielder catches: Your nominated fieldsmen earn you 25 points per catch and 25 points for a run out.
3.
Wicket keepers: 50 points for correct selection. e,g. - Bracey or Watling.
Or if you think they will take the same number of total dismissals per innings - then nominate "the same" = 50 points.
If they take the same number of catches and stumpings (combined) and you've picked either one of the keepers - then 25 points only.
4.
a) Correctly predict who wins the toss = 15 points
b) Correctly predict what the winning Captain decides to do = 15 points - only for those with part a) above correct; no points if your a) was incorrect.
5.
a) Correctly predict the winning team for each Test = 100 points. (1st Test 50 points)
b) If you guess both Test Match outcomes correctly then there is a further 100 point bonus = 250 points.
Note: Correctly predict a "Draw" = 100 points
c) Bonus points for WTC Final = 150 points
If one (or more) of your selected players gets injured during a match or is dropped from the Test side after a match, then you’ll have the opportunity to select replacement players – either as it happens - for the injured player or before the next Test commences (for a player who gets dropped). Doesn’t have to be the actual substitute player – it can be somebody else already in the team. However, you don’t receive any of their previous points – you must start accumulating points from scratch with them.

Thanks KC.
Yes, it will be interesting to see what the winner of the toss will do. Just saw Andrew Miller's "Warp-speed sogginess" video on cricinfo. Looks like lots of water lying around outside the ground but hopefully they can mop things up quickly on field and get some play in today.

Thanks KP_Fan and Guildford.
Just awaiting JDizzle's picks and the drizzle to stop now.
I'm not suggesting the two are connected in any way whatsoever.

You, me and Guildford went for Kohli winning the toss. I guess we were hoping for a change in fortune for him but he would have batted anyway.

Hmm. I might be in with a shout here if it ever stops raining. But Jadeja needs to stand up for me. (*Edit : No...James and PJ have him too. I need Pujara to outdo Kohli.)
Probably should have gone with my successful First Eng/NZ Test tactic and predicted a draw again...

Special Team Scores for the WTC are as follows:
New Zealand:
990 - average player score 90.00
India:
771 - average player score 70.09

101 Watling
101 Williamson
87 Kohli
Followed by: Rohit (79), Rahane (79), Conway (73), Pant (65), Ishant (65), Wagner (60)
Notes:
Congratulations Alfie! In the end, there was no need to panic about a possible drawn result. You nailed it!
Excellent work too from James, Guildford and Tino who kept the pressure on Alfie and scored strongly most days.
Everyone got both the correct result (NZ) and most w/k dismissals (Watling) - except for Olly, JD, KP_F and myself.
Guildford picked the winner but opted for Pant instead of Watling. Probably due to the excess cloud cover before the start of the match.
As always it has been a thrill running this tipping competition again. It never ceases to amaze me how the order moves around so quickly over the course of a session; let alone a day. For example, Soul started this one in fifth position... then deep dived down towards the bottom before finishing comfortably mid-table... which is everyone's ultimate goal really. Except for our man Alfie of course.
Let's see how we go in the next few weeks/months. I see the England - India Test Series starts on August 4 at Trent Bridge.
There's quite a lot of white ball stuff between now and then (give those a miss) but I'll most likely be up for that one (above) so stay tuned.
Like Alfie, I stayed up quite late for a few nights (the only benefit of losing time to rain delays are the early nights) and I'm really paying for it today. I blame the Euros too, however. Sport overload at the highest level...

Thanks Olly.
That was a fantastic match to witness. I was worried we wouldn't finish it but I take my hat off to the cuzzies across the ditch.
Texted one cuz in Chch late this afternoon. His wife gave him the day off today. He's even more 'knackered' than Alfie and me.

Hey thanks for running this , PJ...and I should thank Jamieson and Southee too ; though I think it was actually Latham's catches that won it for me.
And well played James , guildford and Tino - was a good tight battle to the line...
You are right about overload , PJ : I am mostly avoiding spoilers and watching the Euro games back on delay on the Optus app ; but it is still murder on the sleep patterns. Gets a bit easier with the Test over now.
All good practice for the Olympics I suppose !
All good fun - look forward to the India series.

Yes, I watch them on delay too. Try not to see the scores when I log on to Optus (at around 9am) but I had the radio on low volume overnight and thought I heard Hungary was 1-0 up at one stage. Pity they couldn't produce the upset but England - Germany should be another classic match. Don't want Portugal or France to win this time. I'd rather see Belgium or England win it.

Congrats Alfie and thank you as always to PJ.
I thought it was a tricky series of matches to predict with Conway starring on debut, Anderson struggling, Root and Williamson not excelling etc.

Thanks Soul, yes I agree it was a tricky series of matches.
I always feel as though I'm opting for players with great overall records but shaky recent form and willing them to come back into form again. With India... there are so many players I'd like to have in there but the "2 batsmen + 2 bowlers only" rule makes it even harder.

I was cast adrift after the second England test so had to go for it so to speak for the WTC final, it didn't pay off but still good fun. Jamieson I felt was a bit over hyped but now having seen him bowl this summer it's clear that he's a very special talent.

Great stuff Pee Jay. I'm sure it is a fair amount of work but it is good fun so appreciate the effort.
I went from 1st to 4th in the blink of a 6 day test match. Sounds like a metaphor for life.
Look forward to the Eng v Ind competition.

Well done Alfie and, as ever, flawlessly run by PJ! Many thanks.
Will have to have a long hard talk with myself to arrest my slide after winning the Aus-Ind comp!

Thanks as always, Joey!
Thankfully a strong final day performance dragged me into mid-table at the very last gasp.
