Morné Steyn is still playing? He must be 100 years old by now.
And a prop named Ox. Can't go wrong with a prop named Ox.
Looks like a pretty good squad to me.

Morne Steyn has actually been very instrumental in the Bulls’ dominance, his tactical kicking and territorial control has been excellent, he is 36 now, I think he is going to be second choice to Pollard, and if Pollard isn’t ready he will be first choice ahed of Jantjies.
Ox Ntsche was unfortunate to get injured prior to the RWC, otherwise he would have been in with a shot.
The two exciting names there is Apalile Fassi and Simelane. Both very skilled players

4 injured/recovering locks. Duane Vermeulen also on the injury risk list. I think Marcel is out because of injury as well.
I just hope everything sorts itself out by the tests. If the Springboks are fit and can lift their intensity it should be good though.

Did he get injured yesterday?

Marcel might still get called up to replace Vermulen if he's injured. If there is not Vermulen it'll be interesting to see who gets the nod at 8. Will they go with someone as raw and explosive as Jasper Weise?

I think they would want to replace like for like, experience would be a main priority for them.

Re: Springbok Squad announced
De Allende and Snyman, amongst several other Munster players, managed to sustain burns following a 'firepit incident'. Details on exactly what happened are not available, but we will likely hear a bit more. The Munster statement on the incident, suggests none of them are to bad.
The 2 mentioned are having to receive specialist medical attention, hopefully that won't have any impact on their participation in the series.
From my own experience, incidents like this, usually involving alcohol and an attempt to stoke up the bbq, can often end badly!

Jesus, that sounds like a lucky escape, hope they're all ok. Stander and Haley were the other players mentioned in the BBC report

How on earth did Marvin Orie make this squad...
Please for guys like Dweba and Jasper Wiese. They were both fantastic for the Cheetahs, but couldn't get a look-in until that team got disbanded.

I also thought Marcell Coetzee was a sure thing, maybe not unless Vermeulen's injury is more serious. Duane was class in that game until he got injured and looks as though he's got a few good playing years left!

Re: Springbok Squad announced
Marvin Orie is a similar type of player like Franco Mostert, not overly physical but a workhorse. I am a bit surprised myself that he got a call up, I think he will likely get an opportunity against Georgia and maybe for the SA A match vs the Lions, doubt he will play in the test series though

Re: Springbok Squad announced
Well considering the locks SA have, it’s surprising that he can even get a contract with one of the Pro 16 Franchises. Never mind the national team - the absent Jason Jenkins, Ruan Botha and Jacques du Plessis spring to mind. I imagine PSDT would have no trouble playing there either.
NJVR I haven’t seen a lot of. Perhaps his cap is to stop France from nicking another one…

I try not to question selections anymore, firstly I don’t watch domestic rugby that intently anymore, nor overseas teams.
I have become more of a casual observer these days, difficult for me to associate with any team as club/franchise rugby is too mercenary for my liking.

I believe you were a Bulls fan before? Their players are all from SA so it's not as bad as the French. I imagine Bulls do get to pick up the best players coming out of Bloemfontein though.

Nope, never been a Bulls supporter. Many many years ago I supported the Lions
