Will be tough for Nuno, knowing that he was second third fourth fifth sixth choice for the role.

Palace are such a dull club. It's a dead-end job. They've finished between 10th and 15th every year since they returned to the PL, which was 2013. They don't have the resources (financial or a strong youth academy) to push further ahead, and if they end up in a relegation scrap/get relegated Vieira will have failed.
It's a silly job to take. At best Vieira will finish between 10th and 15th for a couple of seasons and leave with his reputation unenhanced.

Looks like Grealish to City will happen, Villa making moves to replace him with Leon Bailey too (And rumours about Cantwell)

VAR to get more complicated than you could possibly imagine. Broadcast of VAR communication remains banned by FIFA - unsure as to why, in cricket and rugby you hear the conversations being had which makes things clearer to the viewer. In football you remain in the dark.

Grealish is good and his stock seems to have risen from lack of opportunities during the Euros but he's not that good, can't see him playing regularly for City and they already have Foden whose ceiling is huge.

Villa have the chance to do what Leicester have done with the Kante/Mahrez/Chilwell money (and what Liverpool did with the Coutinho money to a greater extent) and establish themselves as a top 6 club if they can buy shrewdly.
Buendia, Bailey, Cantwell, Abraham would be a solid start…

Shame that it looks like Jack is leaving. Absolute quality player.
Biased, but think he would have better staying for this season. We have made good additions to our squad. Should be looking at European football at the end of the season, that will be the aim.
He won’t be a regular starter at City.
Huge money and champions league football and win trophy’s in his sights.
Shame for villa. Would have great to see him stay with the players we have and ones we will hopefully sign.
Will be good to see us playing as a team instead of revolving play around him.
Anyway good luck to him. Will be very strange not seeing him in claret and blue this season.
(Unless he does a u turn ).

Abraham would be great as we need another striker. Wesley looks on his way.
Tuanzebe linked to. Will help strengthen our defence.
Ward-Prowse another.

Southampton hold Manchester United 1-1 at St Mary’s. Southampton dominated for long periods and could easily have won. Took a superb stop by de Gea to save a point for the visitors.
OGS is a mediocre manager and is literally way out of his depth. Maguire and AWB are average at best.

Manchester City crush Arsenal 5-0. The Gunners hindered by Xhaka’s above mentioned red card.
I don’t see how Arsenal are going to improve under Arteta.

Liverpool 1-1 Chelsea. Klopp will be gutted they didn’t win against 10 men for 45 mins. 24 shots for the home side but they didn’t really have too many clear cut changes. For all the brilliant attackers they’ve got, you feel a proper #9 could be what they are lacking to potentially win the title.
Chelsea will be happy as they where under massive pressure after the red card.

Spurs go top off the PL after Son’s goal helps them see off Watford.
Manchester United beat Wolves in a smash and grab. Wolves left to rue wasting many chances and de Gea producing an incredible double save. Greenwood scoring the only goal. This kid is a special player.

Re: The 2021-22 Premier League Thread - Dem Thicc Lines
United have made some decent signings this season, but they're still at least a level below title contenders due to not adding a top-quality defensive midfielder to their ranks. Wolves tore them apart time and again.
Chelsea have made the strongest start of the title contenders; outside of that Tottenham have had a blistering beginning...just enough to get their fans to start dreaming before it all turns Spursy.
As ever the season's interesting opening gets halted for a pointless international break, so England can go off and smash Andorra in a game of zero importance.

I think United have just as much as a chance of winning the title as any of the other title contenders. For all the talk I heard before the season of how United finished 12 points behind City, they were still closer than anyone else.

As much as I love Frank Lampard and think he was the perfect man for the job when he took it at Chelsea in his first year - United should take a long hard look at what Tuchel has done and get on the phone to Conte.

Ole is clearly a mediocre manager. But the real question is how did Shakhtar managed to get £52.5m for Fred. He’s literally a headless chicken.

Ole is clearly the ‘yes man’ Manchester United’s owners like having. They tried the demanding manager route with van Gaal and Mourinho. Conte is another in that bracket. He would never fit with the structure at that club.JDizzle wrote:As much as I love Frank Lampard and think he was the perfect man for the job when he took it at Chelsea in his first year - United should take a long hard look at what Tuchel has done and get on the phone to Conte.

You beat me to it. Whenever anyone talks about bringing in a big name manager to United I always think that it didn't exactly work when Van Gaal or Mourinho took over. Fans didn't like their brand of football and the fact that they both won a cup or two didn't make them successful managers for United.Jeff Navarro wrote:Ole is clearly the ‘yes man’ Manchester United’s owners like having. Ole seems to have the backing of the board and so far, the fans are backing him too.

Manchester United 4-1 Newcastle United. Flatters the host somewhat. 2 goals for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Leicester 0-1 Manchester City. Bernardo Silva only goal.
Arsenal 1-0 Norwich City. Aubameyang gets the North Londoners first league goal and win.

Manchester City beat Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge. City dominated the match. Chelsea couldn’t live with them. City are the PL benchmark. Had City got a striker they’d ran away with the league.
Aston Villa beat Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford. Villa made United look a mediocre side. Fernándes missed an injury time penalty, which bizarrely CR7 let him take.
Solskjaer is a championship level manager. I can’t imagine any top manager ever considering Fred or McTomminay as starters for a top 4 club. Yet the Norwegian clown picks both.

It was a rare bit of tactical hopelessness from Tuchel, set Chelsea up way too conservatively and they paid the price. Leaves the title race well balanced early on with the three title contenders of Liverpool, City and Chelsea all on 13 points - though Liverpool have a game in hand v Brentford later today.

Solskjaer probably picks them as starters because he feels that they are his best options. If he thought DVB was better or had other players that he thought would be better I'm sure he would pick them.Jeff Navarro wrote:Manchester City beat Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge. Sorry, but you have forgotten Man Utd in your list of contenders. I know you don't rate them as you picked them to finish 6th or 7th last season while they finished 2nd, and this season you didn't even pick them to finish in the top 4 this season but I think they're genuine contenders.Duty281 wrote:It was a rare bit of tactical hopelessness from Tuchel, set Chelsea up way too conservatively and they paid the price.
