SURREY VS DURHAM ROYAL LONDON CUP SEMI FINAL
SURREY HAVE NAMED AN UNCHANGED SQUAD OF 14 TO TRAVEL TO DURHAM FOR TUESDAY’S ROYAL LONDON CUP SEMI-FINAL AT EMIRATES RIVERSIDE.
Hashim Amla, Ben Foakes, and Nick Kimber remain on the Treatment table.
Surrey will be looking to reach their first List A final since 2017.
Glamorgan awaits the winner.
FULL SQUAD:
Jamie Smith (c)
Rikki Clarke
Tim David
Matt Dunn
Ben Geddes
Conor McKerr
Daniel Moriarty
Ryan Patel
Ollie Pope
Nico Reifer
Cameron Steel
Mark Stoneman
James Taylor
Amar Virdi
Unchanged again most likely, as Nico Reifer is chosen as a specialist fielder
Good news that Durham will lose their best bowler in this competition Paul van Meekeren who is going off to the CPL
His 14 wickets at 22.14 were Durham's top figures in this year's One-Day Cup.

Re: SURREY VS DURHAM ROYAL LONDON CUP SEMI FINAL
Cheers, JimBob.
I had wondered if Foakes might by now be ok to return (he was at Derbys and going through keeping routines with Stewart apparently) with your man Nico missing out. However, not to be.
Go with you on the same eleven.
Good news for us about the Meerkat being away. Bl**dy tough though to get from Durham should we win and ready to play the Final at Trent Bridge on Thursday.

119-3 off 29 overs, Smith and Stoneman both unbeaten with fifties. Need to get this upto 230-250 if we can, that Durham top 5 batting lineup looks very solid to me

Trevaskis is a tidy spinner. Has always kept it tight when I’ve seen him in the T20 - surprised he didn’t get a Hundred deal. Good figures again today.

Yer, that was a bad toss to lose and the always crafty Rushworth cashed in with 3 early wickets. Patel, Pope and David all back in the hutch after just 8 overs with the score on 40.
Useful recovery since then by Stoneman and Smith - both having reached 50 - taking the score to 122/3 off 30. Trouble is those early wickets have meant we've had to be cautious resulting in even Borthwick being able to bowl and not get hit around!
Hope Clarke can biff a few in the last 10 overs. Smallish ground with rope brought in apparently. Think we'll need 250 minimum and then have to take 10 wickets to reach the Final.

Re: SURREY VS DURHAM ROYAL LONDON CUP SEMI FINAL
280/8 off the 50.
Ton for Stoneman who almost saw it through, being run out in the final over. Great partnership of 155 between him and the continually improving Smith who made 85. Clarke went for 12, a pity he couldn't stay longer. However, to compensate, Reifer made a valuable 28 before also being run out at the end.
Just a shame we were in such trouble early doors due to Rushworth's 3 wickets in his first 4 overs. That prevented us properly getting after Borthwick who got away with 2/44 from a full 10 and also helped Trevaskis with his tidy return (0/34 from his 10). Tbf, the slow left armer bowled well with a bit of drift and just might be one for the future.
Not convinced 280 will be enough but it's a darned sight bigger score than looked on when we were 40/3 off 8. Going to have to bowl well and take our chances. Do feel it's 10 wickets or bust ....

yep at least 40 runs short, and sadly we don't have the death bowlers at the end to make a difference.

Hi JD - just belatedly seen your post now. Yeah, Trevaskis looks more than useful.
Spinners who have been given Hundred deals and, more so, those who haven't seems odd to me. Some surprise and relief at Surrey that Moriarty wasn't taken. On that theme, why is Harmer not there?

Hi JimBob - I never got round to posting after the Gloucs game. Whilst it was a convincing win with all the bowlers contributing to some extent plus David and Smith excelling with the bat, I had two concerns.
Firstly, the poor running between the wickets which cost us Patel and David on Sunday. It was a lot better today and the two run outs at Durham were simply a result of understandable last over gambles.
Secondly, the death bowling. That's been a problem for us in this tournament and I don't see an easy solution. Hope that doesn't occur again today although I am concerned ....

Re: SURREY VS DURHAM ROYAL LONDON CUP SEMI FINAL
Hopefully someone at the next club forum will mention the fact that with 7 bowling options in the team why did we not play the extra batsman in Geddes?
we might have got over 300 today, probably wouldn't have mattered but scoreboard pressure would have helped.

159/1 off 30 overs. Generally reckoned you should be able to double your score in the last 20 overs provided you have wickets in hand which Durham most certainly do.
Need at least 2 wickets very soon or we can start the coach ....

Re: SURREY VS DURHAM ROYAL LONDON CUP SEMI FINAL
oh well we did well to get to the semi finals with so many players missing and we got some special moments from Tim David , Ryan Patel and Jamie Smith
Gus Atkinson deciding to leave to sit on his backside elsewhere halfway through the competition didn't help, on the bowling side with Kimber still injured only Taylor was available and Cleary not hardly regarded. The less said about Dunn and McKerr the better.
Amar Virdi wins the Scott Borthwick award for being named in every single squad without playing
always felt we was a batsman short in the last 3 games and so it proved it costly in the end, only the management can answer why Reifer was chosen instead of Geddes.

Congrats to Durham. We did a lot better in this competition than we thought we would, but sadly lacking in the medium pace department, saw a different side to Patel's batting, David finally came good, 39 yo Clarke did well, and Smith also, although his captaincy needs work

Unless we were going to blitz their batsmen, I did fear at the half-way stage that we were 20 to 40 light.
Even though we recovered well from 40/3, 280 still wasn't enough on that ground. Have to applaud Rushworth for his work up top. Putting 3 of our most destructive batsmen back in the hutch straightaway was bad enough but it also meant we had to pootle along for too many overs against their lesser bowlers.
