I'll rarely say "in Sarries defence" but Bristol were the absolutely dire side in that season curtain raiser I thought, Geoff.

Bristol decided to limit their preseason game time due to the long season ahead. They played one behind closed doors intersquad game followed by another behind closed doors game against Hartpury. Maybe it will payoff in the long run if their squad looks less tired at the business end of the season but I thought they looked woefully under cooked going into that match. The 23 Bristol had out really shouldn't have been losing to that Sarries 23 shorn of most of it's star names.

This may seem like having a go at Saracens but it is not intended to be so, merely an honest opinion as a neutral spectator.

The Tigers - Chiefs and Falcons - Quins games were enjoyable games of rugby.
The Bears - Saracens game was boring, and we all know the Bears can play very entertaining rugby.

On one particular point it shows some skill on the wing, on display in Newcastle, that neither Stephens or Lynagh were the best winger on show.
Both were excellent but Radwan has the potential to go up another level

Lot of excitement over Radwan at the moment. That he has a good chance of breaking into the England squad despite being up against Watson and May speaks volumes.

I agree Bristol were very poor and must take some of the blame.

I suppose for me I saw two good exciting games and one cure for insomnia and that game was Bristol Saracens

It's a shame Bristol-Saracens was the showpiece first game of the season. It had all the makings of being a great match, just unfortunately ended up as a kicking duel.
