For me the only Welsh player to be in the conversation is Will Rowlands, possibly Faletau but Aldritt was a level above in terms of 8.

Didn't Basham miss last 2 or 3 games as he was dropped? As you say Oakdene, Faletau only Welsh contender but for me Aldritt was player of tournament so mute point.

There were outstanding players on other teams like Doris, Beirne, Gibson-Parke for Ireland, Itoje, Lawes, George for England, Faletau for Wales but trouble is you have to ask purely on this 6N would they displace any of the French team?

My comment of France for combined team was tongue in cheek but also really not far off.

Very Very surprised that Itoje is not even on the subs bench, but Simmons is. Itoje had a great tournament whilst Simmons proved he is up to international standard, but no more than that.


Oh, how come Youngs is not there but that young upstart Dupont is?

You can't have 115 caps experience missing can you?

I'd be more optimistic from an England perspective, I thought in general our pack was very good. Genge, George, Itoje would be high up the list along with Steward. Injuries and illness to Curry and Dombrandt probably stopped them short.

It's not an official team of the tournament, just my own selection of players who i thought contributed well during their time on the field during this 6N championship. Heavily French influenced therefore. Itoje would be a very good selection as a sub or even starting but I opted for Willemse, Beirne and Woki who all had very good tournaments as well.

11 Frenchmen, 3 Irishmen, ! Englishman

Dupont player of the tournament.

Its France with a few irishmen.  Of the others?  Itoje maybe.  No welsh no scots ( although I have seen Darge given a place at 7 by some pundits)

think of it this way - who from other sides would strengthen the french?  Precious few

Aldritt and Dupont are the only Frenchmen in my view that are way ahead of their counterparts. All the rest of their players are obviously class but you could replace them with players from elsewhere and lose no quality. I also think Sexton is still the best 10 in the six nations, followed by Ntamak and then Garbisi, Biggar and Smith. Russell had a fairly forgettable year.

I would put Fickou in there definitely. Not sure any other centre in the six nations come close at the minute in both defence and attack. Very smart player.

Yeah he is great and you might be right. Id suggest Ringrose isnt far off, maybe a touch less physical but has a great array of skills too.
