CMK was in a better position to judge the incident than either commentator - he's right there in the replay. For what it's worth, from the replay I thought Matthews was committed to the jump before van Rensburg went up, and was in a position to catch the ball.
As for Ugo, I think he just got worn down by Dayglo's relentless anti-Quins nonsense. I feel for Lol, because he's in mourning for his club, and I feel for Ugo for having to put up with how he acts out his grief.

Re: Prem Round 6
Not seen the game but just looked up the replay as I've seen all the controversy. Matthews does go up with the intention to go for the ball but it's always ambitious to come from that far away and he gets nowhere near the ball and grabs van Rensburg by the shoulder. It's a penalty all day long, farce that nothing is given.
CMK and Hodnett aren't a good officiating team. There's always annoyance on the Tigers offy board when she is appointed TMO because every decision becomes a lottery.

Re: Prem Round 6
He jumps the same distance as van Rensburg and gets hands to the ball

The worse decision from that is the medical team allowing van Rensburg back in the defensive line then from the touchline signalling the game to be stopped for him to have a hia.

Re: Prem Round 6
IMO not stopping the game at that point when he clearly smashed his head on the ground was worse ...

I've looked at this replay a few times now and I agree the big question is why the London Irish player was not sent off for an HIA. That is a big mistake. No 7&1/2 wrote:He jumps the same distance as van Rensburg and gets hands to the ball

I think with high balls we have almost an automatic penalty any time a kick is challenged. I this case both guys actively going after the ball. To me, not reckless, just two guys going for the ball. Happens.

He's nowhere near the ball he grabs van Rensburg's shoulders. The ball is safely in can Rensburg's hands by that point, he's not in a position to catch the ball (as it's already caught) and clearly plays the man. Now there's plenty of dispensation so penalty only for me but you can't just grab the guy in the air if he gets to the ball first.

Re: Prem Round 6
Just reviewed again at length on BT Sport - still a pen for me as ball was caught cleanly by BJVR and Matthews didn't need to put his arm across his body and pull him down - but either way no idea what Carley was doing not calling for the game to be stopped immediately when it was clear there was direct hard head contact to ground right in front of him.

I've been watching Sale for a little while and Carpenter is a fantastic full back, in another era he may well be in the conversation for England. It is ridiculous really. We seemingly can never consistently produce talent across all positions, it is either feast of famine.

Re: Prem Round 6
McFarland is just pure class. Shame he's capped and not English! And then the bizarre suggestion from Healey to play him on the wing. Why?!

Just the nature of things. That said looking 12 months down the line and I really don't see a problem position. Possibly hooker?

True enough, there is certainly plenty of young players coming through in most positions (dare I say, even at 12). I guess change is coming, players that have locked down their positions for a long time will be moving on.

I was about to say that Daly has to be back involved with England, then he gets a YC!
He does though, in the form of his career and now really experienced, seems like the perfect bench option.

Why didn't they just kick the ball out rather than giving Sale a chance to pick up a LBP?
