A glimmer of hope?
News has broken over the bank holiday weekend that a consortium led by former 6WF Hall of Famer, JJ Johnson has purchased the rights to both the 6WF and 6CW brands; including all of the naming rights, trademarks and back catalogs of both historic companies.
It is, at this time, yet unknown what the plan moving forward is as Johnson and VIP Promotions have been unavailable for comment but needless to say it has led to a furore of speculation and rumours that a revival may be in the offing.
6WF went out of commission in 2015 when Boston native Chris Patricks was the Undisputed World Champion and scheduled to defend his title against Max Adamson in a Last Man Standing match at the Explosion pay per view. The title would pass on to cult hero Rasta, who would spend the next six years defending the championship on the independent circuit, before he was dethroned in 2021 by Karl Kramer live on the 6CW World’s End broadcast.
6CW, on the other hand, had a few more attempted reincarnations over the last decade. The last of which came to an anticlimactic close in 2021 just before the highly anticipated Day of Reckoning pay per view where Clarke James was scheduled to defend the 6CW World Championship against long time rival Marshall Murdoch in a last man standing match.
It is currently unknown as to the status of both of these world championships and now that both are owned by VIP Promotions what they intend to do with them in the future.
Speculation will continue to grow until an official announcement, of any kind, is made but for the first time in a long time fans of these historic brands of professional wrestling have a glimmer of hope that a return may just be possible.
