Carley has been the worse referee in the competition and by some distance.
Should be dropped from the International panel after the WC

Both Samoa and Tonga have been rubbish. I expected a lot better from them with the players available. Contrast with Fiji who have been very good so far - perhaps the result of hiring good coaches over the years.
That rings true. Fiji and Samoa were both strong on the original sevens circuit. Fiji went onwards and upwards in the code, hiring some of the best coaches around, while Samoa floundered. It's only in the last two seasons that Samoa has returned to some sort of Sevens form, and most of that is down to a coaching plan.

Re: Rugby World Cup - other team/games and general chat
Fiji's identity has long been 'Sevens team that could be good with better structure (in the pack)', and the franchise/coaching seems to be paying off there. My point was that the classic Samoan 'hard running and big hits' identity doesn't look like a great foundation for the current climate.Rugby Fan wrote:That rings true. Ben Whitehouse... Possibly correct but ye could let that go. Even the referee tried to talk him out of it and looked upset with the decision.

If that pass hsd been reviewed and not been called forward in real time, I bet it would have been given!

Only real way to correct this is to be better.....if you're in and around the top couple of sides there's more of a chance you'll be drawn in an easier group.

I should have added "continually around the top few sides".......
I quite enjoy that the WC cup groups can be a bit messed up form wise.

If Fiji lose this game, does that mean that Australia can still qualify?

Yes, as long as Fiji don't get to 11 points (currently on 6).

Fiji probably only need a point from this game realistically

Yes, thst was my maths as well
They will likely still win this game, but they have got something to think about.
Play this loosely against England and they lose

That may well wrap it up and make the calculators redundant
Fabulous run and offload from Botica
Fiji had to gtibd in this game, but they have proved up to the task

Re: Rugby World Cup - other team/games and general chat
Some truly bonkers calls in the game from the ref
Waves play on thinking Georgia kicked after the Fiji knock on when it was a Fijian hand on the floor that scooped it back then the Fijian player who was tackled seals off his own ball by diving over the top of it and his hands are on the floor and the ref pings Georgia for coming in at the side.
Looks like the ref is trying to balance out the lad reffing that went against Fiji vs wales

My commisserations to Georgia, that was a brave attempt, thought a number of 50/50 calls went against them.

Much closer than I thought it would be. It was a pretty terrible Fiji performance for the most part and they'll be relieved to get over the line.

Portugal with some astonishing early play. They've got the first try against Australia.

Some tackle I'm the corner. And I do like when Bell gets on a roll. Who doesn't like to seem people bouncing off a prop.

Regardless of the outcome, Portugal has had a terrific RWC,
Also, I think their 15 is a pretty handy player.

Who is in the bunker?
The protocol seems to be
1. Is the offender a SH player?
2. Is the opposition a NH team?
In the event either question is answered “yes” then yellow card only

The amount of SH players playing in NH teams could be why it's all so confusing.
