Mike Phillips fighting with bouncers at 3am last night.
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/2011/06/16/in-pictures-rugby-star-mike-phillips-in-3am-shame-91466-28892546/
The images show Phillips, 28, outside a McDonald’s in the capital being held down by bouncers until police arrived.
Phillips, who recently secured a move to French club Bayonne, was tonight unavailable for comment and is believed to be on holiday.
The photographs were taken in the early hours of Tuesday morning and one was posted on Twitter.
The WRU issued a statement saying it would look into the incident.
A spokesman told WalesOnline: “We are aware of the photograph and will look into the circumstances around it before deciding if any further public comment is necessary.”
Police said they were called to the incident but said no arrests took place.
Inspector Tony Bishop, of South Wales Police, said: “In the early hours of Tuesday, June 14, South Wales Police attended Queen Street, Cardiff, following information received that a man was being restrained by security staff.
“Officers attended and the individual was placed into a police vehicle while enquiries were made in the location to establish what had taken place.
“No complaints were received, no persons wished to provide statements and no offences were disclosed.
“The man was taken away from the area and no further action was taken.”
Damien Broad, who took the photographs, described how events unfolded.
He said: “He was not allowed into McDonald’s and was having an argument with the bouncers.”
Mr Broad said there was a scuffle with bouncers outside the restaurant before one of them sat on 6ft 3in Phillips until police came.
“They put him in the back of the van and drove off,” he said.
“There were quite a few people there watching. It was definitely Phillips.”
A McDonald’s spokeswoman was unable to comment on the specific incident.
But she said: “The safety and security of our staff and customers are our top priority. We welcome everyone to our restaurants, but anyone behaving in an anti-social manner which could cause alarm or distress to either our customers or staff will be asked to leave the restaurant.”
It is not the first time Phillips has hit the headlines over late night behaviour.
In 2008, the scrum half was hospitalised after being attacked outside a Cardiff nightclub.
He had been turned away from Soda Bar, in the Mill Lane area of the city, before the assault at around 4.15am.
Phillips suffered facial injuries and was taken to hospital, but later released.
In 2009, he was bailed by police after being arrested in Cardiff following an alleged 3am bust-up with a taxi driver after returning from the British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa.
Phillips denied the allegations and the case was later dropped.
After the incident, he said: “People who know me properly would tell you that isn’t me at all. I do like to go out when I feel the time is right and I think it does us all good to switch off every now and again and relax.”
Tuesday’s incident comes just weeks after Phillips and Welsh singer Duffy ended their romance.
The couple first got together in September 2009 and Mercy singer Duffy said her relationship with the rugby star helped her deal with the pressures of fame that followed her debut album, Rockferry.
Phillips has joined Bayonne from the Ospreys, who said he was free to join the French Top 14 side.
In a pre-prepared statement released through the Ospreys today, Phillips said of his move to France: “I have had a great time at the Ospreys and am grateful for their assistance in developing my career.
“They are a region with a great squad of players and great supporters, and I wish the region all the best for the coming seasons.”

On a serious note, in the first picture you can see him stepping towards the door, in the second picture he's on the floor - he clearly took an unecessary step between the two pictures thus delaying his momentum and allowing himself to get easily scragged...

Apparently service at McDonald's was slow even by Mikey's standards.
Now that's sloooowwwww.
Maybe he was waiting for the nugget.

Maybe he took 3 steps to the left while looking for a gap and stepped on a bouncers foot?
The real question is why wasnt Stephen Jones outside him ready for the hospital pass?!

Jones was obviously too flat and over-ran it... into Nandos.
Nice to see the bouncers entering into the spirit of McDonalds though, with the shirt-lifting going on in picture 4 it's clear the turdburglar was on duty... hang on, no, sorry it was hamburglar wasn't it?

Well, Well, Well. Mike, I don't want to Rain on Your Parade but it looks like you're begging for Mercy there. Those guys are using you as a Stepping Stone. Is that Queen St or Warwick Avenue?
Sorry. I'm ashamed

lol that made me laugh.
bit of a disapointment, massive mike couldnt handle a pair of chubby mcdonalds bouncers, letting down the side, if he was to be arrested he should at least broken one of their noses rather than being sat on by one of them

Maybe we can put him at hooker?
Na we can put the girls in mini skirts in the back ground of the picture in those positions!

Just saw him a couple of hours ago in the Red Dragon Centre in Cardiff.
Looked very relaxed and normal to me!
I doubt he would have been out and about straight in Cardiff straight after this incident...

I'll give that fella 2-3 months in France. That stuff is not tolerated down there.

Re: Mike Phillips fighting with bouncers at 3am last night.
What a great picture! Sums the guy up really. He has got the most pathetic attitude in rugby. Remember when he tried to teach Justin Marshall a lesson? He was laughing stock then, he's laughing stock now. Still though, it is worrying to see a chubby bouncer a welsh international
Sorry, Mike Phillips is a prize plonker, always has been - not surprised in the slightest. Always amazes me how such moronic attitudes prevail so strongly in rugby. As Carwyn James said - It's a thinking game, it's a thinking game, it's a thinking game. Say that to Mike Phillips and what do you get?

Re: Mike Phillips fighting with bouncers at 3am last night.
Boyne - Sadly Welsh rugby players are considered "stars" in Wales so they get a lot of publicity regardless of their behaviour. There are probably more of such incidents from Wales and everywhere else, but those are the well publicised events that you happen to hear about. Just because you hear about it happening to certain players, doesn't mean to say it's unique to them. Therefore to tar all Welsh players with the same brush is unfair and misinformed.

Sad but no surprise. Phillips is one of the more stupid and egotistical in the Welsh squad (and there's a lot of competition!)
Being refused entry to a club is one thing but being unable to get a burger - that's really low.

Mike Phillips strikes me as an angry man. He plays like he's looking for a fight - to the detriment of his game. Maybe he should take up yoga or something.

Cari Im not tarring anyone with the same brush, but you canno deny anti social behaviour is particularly an issue in Wales.
And i dont buy into this idea of them getting more media attention than the other nations...
Believe me, if David Wallace was acting the maggot in Cork and was put in a headloack on the footpath- you'd hear about it!!!

Re: Mike Phillips fighting with bouncers at 3am last night.
Gawd lads and ladies,
Why is it every time something happens to someone, somewhere, there is a toadstool with a camera taking a picture and sending it out for all the world to see. Then, the aforementioned toadstool gets his 15 minutes of fame by being quoted in the media. I really don't care whether that is Phillips or not. I'd like to give folks like that another 15 minutes of fame by being publicised as the first person to have a camera phone removed from his backside.
The police deemed there was no harm, no foul, no issue. For the sake of the smattering reamins of civility, some things should be just left alone.
Gee, that was strident on a Friday morn, wasn't it?

Re: Mike Phillips fighting with bouncers at 3am last night.
Steady on guys. 3am? The night probably hadn't started! The last time, oh no sorry, the time before that Phillips said he was having a quiet drink at 4am with his brother.
Now, I have a brother, but we've never had a quiet drink at 4am!
It's WC year. What did we expect. There doesn't seem to be much control over certain Wales players. I'm just surprised Rhys Thomas wasn't with him.
Oh no forgot. Thomas is a burger king man!
Apparently though he kicked off when he was told they don't do crab!
