UKA COME 4TH IN EUROPE
First topic message reminder :
This is such a terrible result for a wealthy nation which spends so much on athletics, and we were only a few points ahead of the French.
A reminder of the 2010 results
1. Russia 379.5
2. Great Britain 317
3. Germany 304.5
4. France 290
5. Ukraine 287
The 2011 results
1. Russia 385
2. Germany 331.5
3. Ukraine 304
4. Great Britain 289
5. France 284
Lets be honest here everyone is this really acceptable, if it was football then everyone would be calling for a new change of management. Or is it that we really do not give this event the attention it really deserves?
What do others think?

Well i guess we will have to wait a couple of years to find out
I think the Euro Championships going to an every 2 year format is going to bomb
Who would prioritise the Euro Champs next year rather than the Olympics ??

Would they be better covering some of the Diamond leagues for example, many of the peformances at these meetings are quite inspiring for the young viewer.
That's as maybe but there is British representation in every event which isn't the case in the Diamond League (except perhaps in matches here) for any country.

I was more concerned with viewing levels given big players missed the meeting, I know this does not go down to well with the TV guys, we cannot afford for them to get shirty and reduce coverage even more!

Re: UKA COME 4TH IN EUROPE
Why try to convince ourselves that athletics is a team event?
Obviously it's an individual event. Athletics is full of giant egos who are really only interested in their own performance. Whatever the 'team' does is of no real consequence to them.
I don't say this in a judgemental way. It's just that, as you can see from the results, some of our stars will use meetings that don't coincde with their schedules as training exercises or they just won't turn up at all. In their heads at least they have bigger targets, world or olympic championships for instance, to aim for.

Are you referring to my post?
If so, how is that trolling? It's just my opinion

Nah, I don't think he was referring to your post.
I'm thinking was possibly referring to another post on this thread (not naming which as to not make it a personal attack) which may have been trying to provoke others into an argument.
Alledgedly, possibly, maybe. Who knows?

He'll probably benefit from whatever he says anyway. (not talking about j.a.r or english).
ABAC have taken over.
Bye everyone. Waste of a good thing.

Correct, I was not getting at you EnglishOsprey If we all ignore the topics which talk about UKA, then we can return to a sense of normality around these parts and focus on athletics. I too was on 606, but changed my username coming here to have a fresh start about athletics.
Mods... can we have an ignore button like some other forums, it might help the majorty on here

There is a "foe" option which does the same sort of thing. Unfortunately it's not working right now but the forum hosts have been informed and they are working on a solution

Athletics is a team event at all levels outside the very top.
This format is the exact format we all competed in as kids. Everyone fights that little bit harder when they know it is for the team. Athletes that don't usually shine often pull out career best performances in such comps.
It also makes events far better.

Re: UKA COME 4TH IN EUROPE
maybe, at junior level.
ask most decent athletes at BAL level if they want a pb or a team victory and see what answer you get. (assuming they can have one or the other)
when I ran BAL, pb every time i'm afraid. Not that that's a great attitude but it is reallity

Re: UKA COME 4TH IN EUROPE
The funny or not so funny thing about this thread... that no oone has mentioned is that the title is 'UKA comes in 4th'.
Were UKA competing? Or were Team GB? Or Great Britain or whatever you want to call them.

If every athlete gets a pb then the team do well and the team manager is very happy.

Ryan,
I thought that too. In fact it is the UK of GB&NI, GB excludes the Northern Irish.
