The Points Thingy
For those of you who remember Cogen's original point Spy's this is my attempt at one for Wimbledon. It is nowhere near his level but should serve as a guide for us.

Great job their FastLane and if that is true and Nalbandian is back in the top 20 of the world, what an achievement for that man it is

Great job, these threads should become sticky's during the events otherwise they might get lost under new threads (and new repetitive threads too).

Before I add this as a sticky.
FastLane would you be able to commit to the updates of these as I know I_AM_AWESOME does a great job of it too.

Re: The Points Thingy
Fast
Any chance of using different coulours to show who has gone out?
Shows how much the GS points matter at the lower end of the 32, with Baggy up 6 spots already just by getting to R3. Lots of players within a couple of hundred points, so getting to R4 or the quarters can move you a long way.

thanks for the colour coding.
Hadn't noticed how far Tsonga has dropped in the provisional ranking - needs to replicate his points haul from last year to move back to just outside the top 16.

I think it's that everyone around him had a bad tournament. He drops a load more points than anyone of them and it hinders him

Lopez jumps into top 20 with a win
Tsonga jumps into top 16 with a win
Mardy Fish jumps into 7th with a win
Bernard Tomic would go into top 50 with a win

Re: The Points Thingy
thanks for this InTheFastLane.
So if Tsonga were to beat Djokovic in the semis (big if, but not writing it off after today) then he would go to n°10 in the world, and really be breathing down the necks of the three above him.

Yer. I genuinely think that if he becomes consistent he is the 5th best in the world and a hanger-on to the big four.

Re: The Points Thingy
And so tomorrow the #1 spot is up for grabs - a win for Djokovic, and 1200 points minimum moves him on to 12485, which Rafa can't match even if he wins the title (maximum 12070).
And if Rafa loses to Andy, Djokovic takes the top spot regardless of how he performs against Tsonga.
Andy is stuck at 4 - a tournament win would take him to 8035 points, but still some distance behind Roger (>1000 points). He is now well clear of Soderling, but does have a fair haul of points to defend before the USO (as does Federer)
Tsonga climbs to 10th if he wins the SF and 7th with the title

Re: The Points Thingy
And so Djokovic establishes a healthy lead at the top (just over 2000 points) - The table in the header currently only shows the 2 finalists on 1200 points each
Other than Rafa dropping a little closer to Federer than before (still about 2000 points gap), little has changed for the rest of the top 4, indeed Federer and Murray equalled last year's points hauls.
Considering the number of points available, the effects on the top 16 have been quite small - Berdych losing a couple of places by not defending his points from last year's final, and Tsonga climbing 5 by reaching the SF this time.
A little oddity is Troicki dropping 4 places by equalling his performance of 2010 (lost R2) - obviously Tsonga well out-performed him and so jumped up, but he also dropped behind Gasquet (lost R4), Almagro (lost R3) and Wawrinka (lost R2). Just shows how close it is for points around the 12-16 level.

What is the modern era record of points at the end of a season?

Re: The Points Thingy
nitb
I think the points only changed in 2009, so probably Rafa's total at the end of 2010
