First topic message reminder :

Saw there wasn't a topic for the greatest Football Management sim ever,so post all your trials and tribulations of your seasons here, and any players/tactics you can recommend.

I'm currently playing a season as Worcester City in the Blue Square North and I'm going well so far,top of the league and lost two games all season(One League and one in the FA Cup first round away at Crawley). No money so all signings are free transfers.Best players for me so far:

Gautier Mahoto:9 Goals and 9 Assists from Central Midfield
Mark Danks:15 goals in 16 games
Mustapha Traore:Absolute rock at the back.

Mahoto and Traore were both free transfers. So,Anyone got any stories of glory/despair on Football Manager this year?

In the 2011 game you do get a lot more interaction with the board, there is a section where you can make requests to the board to improve the training/youth facilities, request extra funds, a new contract and for the pitch to be relayed. It definitely adds an extra dimension to the game.

I have to agree with the negotiating of fees. There is the enquiry option but 9 times out of ten they reject it. There were a lot of issues in the newest game with a transfer glitch in the first edition. You were finding Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo on the transfer list for a few million. They did fix it but the transfers have been very poor in the 2011 game.

They generally do reject enquiries, and I think that's the issue for me -- they never tell me why!

I'd like the system to be where they tell you how far short of their valuation you are or why they don't want to sell.

A more realistic system with negotiating might be better for me personally.

If they could improve the transfers to the level they did with contract negotiations that would be good.

The opportunity to become a youth team manager/reserve team manager when you start? Or maybe to start as an assistant and become caretaker manager if someone get's fired.

More variety in press conferences/private chats with players.

Always liked the idea also of being able to build youth academies abroad so that your youth team isn't always just the nationality of the club your managing.

If you apply to be our new manager IRL, you'll probably get the job. Although Ray Mathias is the manager at the moment i'm sure you could topple him with this reference!

If that was possible yeah, but I mean just being able to start up an academy in a foreign country so that when the time of the year comes that you receive your new youth players that you are able to get a few players that are of a different nationality rather than them all being English if you were managing an English side. If that makes sense? Laugh

My current save, I am manager of Blue Square North side Droylsden, 15 games in have yet to taste defeat. Star player is 43 year old player/assistant manager Craig Brewster, 12 goals in 15 games Yahoo

I was told that if you put your nationality as different countries you will apparently after a few seasons start getting players of that nationality through the youth squad. So if you were managing in Italy and English then after a few seasons you should apparently get English players coming through.

Does anyone remember the penalty shoot-out glitch a couple of years ago? If a match went to penalties the score would always change. I got knocked out the Champs League once, even though I won on penalties!

For the FM version on the PSP, is it possible to get updates for the game?

Got promoted with Leicester in 2nd place! Dani Pacheco was an absolute beast, 24 goals and 9 assists!

Made some,if I do say so myself, tremendous signings without spending a penny so far.Got my eyes on Steven Fletcher, who scored 21 goals for Wolves in both of his seasons on the game.

Team at the moment:

Artur Boruc

Danny Simpson
Martin Caceres
Danny Gabiddon
Javier Garrido

David Templeton
Owen Hargreaves
Hatem Ben Arfa
Macej Rybus

Nicolas Anelka
Matty Fryatt

I started again recently on FM11, using the update now with Liverpool after having fun with Arsenal last game where I won every trophy I possibly could three years running, I did take screen shots of it at one point, but I hope you'll all just believe me.

Started again as Liverpool with the new update so I have Suarez and Carroll. I had a £20 million transfer budget, one more friendly left of pre-season left now and have so far brought in:

Tranquillo Barnetta- £6.5 million
Joan Capdevilla- £2.2 million
Oscar Wendt- £1.7 million
Humberto Suazo- £2.4 million
Scott Dann- £7.5 million

While I've got rid of-

Daniel Ayala- Season long loan to Burnley- £160k 100% wages
Milan Jovanovic- Season long loan to Udinese- £275k 50% wages option to buy for £5.75 million
David N'Gog- Rubin Kazan- £4.5 million
Sotiris Kyrgiakos- Bayern Munich- £2.5 million
Jay Spearing- Season long loan to Derby- £70k 100% wages

I think I've got a decent enough squad now, may bring in one more striker as cover because I've still got 3 more squad spaces left but pretty happy with what I've got now and think I can achieve my aim of European qualifcation.

Completed a season with non league side Droylsden, winning the Conference North staying unbeaten. Bargain buy was Gifton Noel Williams on a free transfer, 29 goals in 32 games.

I am now manager of Charlton after they finished disappointingly in the season prior. Massive re building job as they released half there team just before I took over. I have 8 recognised first team players. Looking forward to the challenge.

Can anyone recommend any good loan signings for a League One side? Look for full backs, all midfielders and strikers. Not too much .. Laugh

Not sure to be honest, on my Arsenal game I loaned him for one year and although I didn't play him much he was good against weak Premier League sides and in Cup games so should be decent in the Championship. I don't know if he'll make a huge difference though.

crept into the play offs last game of the season beating Leicester who occupied one of the play off spots above me so beating them guaranteed my place. Would then go on to beat Leicester again in the play off final 2-1 85th minute goal Yahoo

....................................James............................
Ribeiro.........Woodgate...........St Ledger......Fabio
Dos Santos....Lansbury...........Skuse........Perrotta
...........................Owen...........Pacheco

Subs:
Gerken, Spence, Nyntanga, Taarabt, Adomah, Maynard, Gudjohnson

Transfers:
Woodgate - free
Fabio - 9.75m
Dos Santos - 5m
Perrotta - free
Lansbury - loan
Owen - free
Pacheco - loan
Spence - 2.2m

They've been extremely tight lipped this year and given very little away.

Currently in a save with Leyton Orient. I have been unbeaten in the league all season and have score 92 goals in 31 games. I have been seriously fortunate and was taken over at the very beginning of the season so had a 2million transfer kitty.

My team is;

Jamie Jones

Jordan Spence (Loan)
Ben Chorley
Ryan Shotton (Loan)
Bob Harris

Gary Roberts
Gary Harkins
Paul Jose M'Poku (Loan)
Donal McDermott (Loan)

Febian Brandy
Harry Kane (Loan)

Last season I won the Premier League again (on the last day of the season) and the Champions League (beating Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Lyon and Liverpool on the way).

Yep! Had to buy in D. Gea and Jones.

I keep offering £0 but with a decent pay monthly fee so it doesn't matter too much that I only get a £18 mil kitty in the summer.
Babacar is freaking awesome, highly recommend him, same with Hazard. Hulk had a great first season but went off the boil a bit last year when Babacar partnered him instead of Rooney (who had a strop with me and refused to talk anymore). Sold Vidic this summer for £11 mil and Rio retired. Still have Evra and Fletcher too as solid backup.

Just unwrapped FM2011 again and I'm going to try and avoid the obvious dive into ManUtd, Chelsea or Arsenal.

Any suggestions as to whom I should play with that would give me a challenge without being battered every game.

Downloaded a transfer update last week and thought I'd take Spurs as my team and try and do something with them. At the moment I'm in around 3rd place, 3pts off 2nd and 4th. A lot of players sold or loaned out, with not a lot of real established players coming in for my first season.

In the summer I'll try and replace Friedel and look at the possibility of getting another top striker. Babacar looks like a good player but I can't remember whether someone had snapped him up on my game.

in my 3rd season atm:

Started with Bristol City being the team i support, promoted first season brought in the likes of Fabio, Simeone Perotta, Michael Owen, Woodgate, Gudjohnson, Taarabt, Dos Santos. But being rooted to the foot of the table at christmas when offered the West Ham (18th) job i took it, given money for jan transfers brought in Shane Long and Tom Cleverley and guided them to 12th. Next season again christmas time i got sacked by West Ham and took the Norwich job and led them to 9th or so. Signed Chopra for 2.5m or so, Maynard for 160k due to a clause in his loan and in the summer Adrian Mutu on a free, also Anthony Wilkinson from stoke, currently 10th or so but only about 6 points of the top, very tight league

With Liverpool, in January I signed N'Zonzi to strengthen my midfield as injuries had taken their toll. Eventually finished fifth, only missing out on fourth (which United got) on goal difference. I won the Euro Cup as well.

Currently in the summer, so about to begin my second season, I have gone for a rebuild. My outs have been-

Aurelio
Konchesky
Poulsen (loan)
Suazo (who was useless!)
Maxi Rodriguez
Brad Jones (loan)
Degen
Pacheo (loan- but I actually want him back unlike the others on loan)
Jovanovic (loan)
Insua (free)
Aquilani (loan)
Gulasci

And my ins:

Stewart Downing
Shane Long
Thiago (free)
Altintop (free)
Manu (free)
Diarra (a young French centre back- free as well)

Currently gained by £2 million more than I have spent although Sessengon might come in, but also trying to offload Joe Cole if he would lower his wage demands!

Aiming for top 4 this year, but I'm only predicted 5th again, hopefully I can get a good Cup run again, as last year I went out in the early rounds.

He'd be 31 in 2016 so I imagine the price will have started to come down.
I tried to get Sneijder in my first year at Utd.

I've been trying to get Henderson, but it seems Sunderland on FM 11, have similar ideas to the Sunderland of reality, they wanted £14.75 million, plus about £7 million in add ons, and a hot prospect I have. Shocked I bought Sessengon off of them instead for £2.8 million.

Depends on if the player is unhappy or not, I kept trying to get Bale for ages and was getting told £50mil+. Then the moment I was capped on my wage bill I got offered him for £6mil (and Balotelli for £5.5mil) but couldn't stretch the wages.

I've been trying to make Henderson unhappy by declaring interest and all that jazz, not working though. I'm just gonna hope Sunderland do crap this year so I can bring him in.

The most I have ever, ever spent on a player on Football Manager is £17.25 on Suarez when I was Arsenal. I am always terrified of flops, so if I can't get them for under £15 million, sometimes even under £10 I just don't bother.

I tend not to spend over £20m on a player, unless I'm at a top club and need someone that good. On my current game the most I've spent on a player is around £10m, but I've bought 3 players at around that value. I always enjoy buying a player cheaply, get him playing well and watch his value rise. Bought Hlousek and Adrian for £2.6m and £1.8m respectively, now worth £4.1m and £3.4m after one season. Not a huge rise, but still improving.

Best value transfer I've got in this years games is Ribery + £50m for Essien, now Essien is good but he's not that good. Very Happy

With Liverpool, the most I have spent is £7.5 million on Downing, next Barnetta for £6.5 million and then nobody over £5 million after them two! Laugh
