Who Wins
Chavez Jr vs Macklin
Both fighters like coming foward and thowing power punches; Chavez to the body Mostly, Macklin to the body also but mixes it up to the head.
Chavez is the current WBC title holder. I think whatever the result it would produce a great fight, I also dont see why it can't be made both Ring Magazine ranked - Macklin 4th, Chavez 6th- So it would be a genuine title defence from Chavez, 50/50 Fight.
* Neither has a good defence
* Both have Good Stamina and Workrate
* Neither Have very good boxing skills although Chavez might edge Macklin here with his long jab
* Both have Similiar Speed (Both Hand and Foot), But slight advantage to Macklin in my opinion
* Size/Fight night Weight advantage to Chavez(Chavez 180lb vs Zbik, Not sure Macklin's weight vs Sturm) -
Height: 5′ 10″ Macklin, 6'0 Chavez
Reach: 72″ Macklin, 73'' Chavez
* Chavez seems to have the better chin although both can take a shot very well
* Neither are big Punchers but Chavez might have a slight advantage
Chavez has the better corner- Freddie Roach
Chavez by Points 115-113 - 50/50 fight going on Roach's tactics and the Unbeaten record of Ariza + Roach

Think Macklin can win this one. For me, Chavez is the poorest belt-holder in one of the two weakest divisions in boxing (with 130). Roach may be a better trainer than Macklin's man, but he can't instil quality when the raw material doesn't exist. Macklin by decision, since he isn't a world level puncher, in my view. Decent and meaningful fight.

Haven't been at all impressed with Chavez considering the hype he's been receiving and, in all likelihood, the high purses he commands. Macklin is certainly good enough to take a decision over him and it's a route the Irishman should look at.

Thats why i would like to see this match up. Macklin get huge credit and fame if he beats chavez and its also a easier fight compared with likes of martinez. Macklin threw over 1100 against Sturm, that is impressive (ATG work rate)

He does bring in loads of viewers due to his father.

I've been impressed with what I've seen of Joe Gallagher's fight tactics so far, he always seems to send his fighters out there with a good game plan.
I'd fancy Macklin to take this on points as I think he's a better round talent than Chavez and he's more likely to listen to his trainers tactics.

I'm sure that he does, and for that reason. But that's the only reason; his achievements in the ring so far simply don't equate to a marquee fighter.

Great matchup, one i would look forward to. Went for Macklin decision, he has the tools to do it and Chavez is beatable. If he had to go to Mexico though forget it.

Beat a very good fighter is Zbik - i had it 115-113 for chavez, also has a belt

New York would be a Neutral place-i think-.
You can say Macklin is very beatable -- Genuine 50/50 fight, i dont get why no promoters/trainers are talking about this match up.

Not denying that Chavez is a decent fighter, KO King, just that he's done nothing himself to justify the hype and money he generates.

Macklin's just in my and many other people's eyes beat the 2nd best middle in the world, this hype job wouldn't be a problem for him. Darren Barker would also destroy Chavez, he's a name that's all and i'm not wearing it.

Find myself agreeing with Towzer and the consensus, each time I've seen Chavez I've been massively underwhelmed, though I confess I haven't seen the Zbik fight. Macklin showed against Sturm he can live with world level and I'd fancy him to take a decision in close but decisive fashion. If the fight happened though I wouldn't be surprised if Macklin get's done over again by poor judging.

Chavez doesn't have that kind of power, unless you think Macklin has a weak body or can't take a good punch to the chin(glass chin)
