im not a lancashire fan, but would like to hear anybody's opinon on this, but does anyone think that chapple was unlucky not to play for england in any format?

Yes - and as per the other thread on best players never to play for England I think Chapple is one of the better ones mentioned there.

Cricketfan - meant to reply to this the other day. Yes, you are absolutely right. A very dependable cricketer who was most unlucky never to play for England. I seem to remember him being picked for one squad but not making the starting eleven.

Chapple reminds me a bit of Martin Bicknell, very fine Surrey bowler. Bicknell did play a few games for England but not nearly as many as he should have.

Definitely, we've been missing him all season and he's been brilliant for us over the years.

Given some of the seam bowlers that were picked for England in the late 90s and early 00s, he certainly should have at least been given a chance. My concern would be that he was never really quick, but then neither were the likes of Hoggard or Sidebottom and they had enough success playing for England.

i think he should have played limited overs cricket for england not test.
