Will the WUMs spoil "Son of 606"?
Title says it all really. Will Cyril, Hersh, Maj etc infect the new 606?

NO!
Once there is a few more Rugby Union posters, we will be looking for a mod to regulate it.
If you see anyone wumming on here or being antisocial, then please post a link in the ALERT A MODERATOR thread.
This is a community board that the members will run and weed out troublemakers
Please try and get more people over here - the board is only as good as its members.

Re: Will the WUMs spoil "Son of 606"?
Hopefully the new mods will prove more efficient than the lazy BBC censors.....and unlike them will know how to tell a WUM from an honest post.
While we're on formalities, are we allowed to swear? Open cursing will make 606 feel stranger than ever. I expect and understand a no to that question but will we at least be allowed to resume use of "crap", "rape" and other non-swearwords that the beeb decided to block out anyway for some reason.

Swearing is not acceptable on here, we're trying to keep it accessible for all and while in work.
Crap is fine, anything 'stronger' will probably be changed. Rape as a word is fine, but obviously the context it's used in needs to be considered carefully before posting.

there is a swear filter for the naughty words (you know which ones lol)
If any of the idiots from 606 come across that you know are trouble makers, just 'private message' a mod and they will sort it out.
We all want this site to work, and with your help it will

Fair enough. Of course I wouldn't dream of using a word in harsh context against my fellow man . I was alluding to the boxing boards when I tried to reference the Mike Tyson rape charge a couple of times and just got informed that I was apparently offending people

Good work setting this site up and hopefully the rubbish WUMs will stay away, but the odd tongue in cheek wum can be quite humorous to read, I am however neither humorous or a wum...

I'm glad there isn't a silly star system like on the BBC site. It seemed like some people spend their lives going around and 1 starring threads.

The WUMS will only spoil things if they are allowed to, so it's up to the users to make sure they don't.

Re: Will the WUMs spoil "Son of 606"?
Who decides whats a wum?
I mean on 606 someone like cyril didn't really offend me and greyghost was just a plank and I am a fellow Kiwi.
I found some posts pretty funny but thought poaching,Haka, cheating threads were boring.
But surely everyone can have their opinion and we can't all agree on everything and nor would we want to.
I simply didn't read the ones with the above topics in the title or Henson etc.
I wouldn't dream of stopping anyone else though.
Just a thought so I can behave myself.

Re: Will the WUMs spoil "Son of 606"?
fun articles are of course allowed. A moderaotrs job is not to censor opinion but offensive and libellous stuff
To me Wumming is when things are posted to deliberately offend people. If the rugby union moderator deletes something that you are not happy with, then you can ask for another board moderator (such as myself King Beer, Enforcer or Hero) to have a look at the decision.
A moderator is a role peroidically reviewed and personal opinion shouldnt come into it.
Any issues, let me know.
Enjoy th eboard .

Re: Will the WUMs spoil "Son of 606"?
There isnt one at the moment - most of the mods have universal powers.
The rugby union board isnt really busy enough to warrant a full time one but hopefully if we get more members, we will need one. Interested?
(I think Linebreaker is keeping an eye on both rugby codes)
If you can get some more people over from 606, it would be great and much appreciated. We really want this to work.

I sincerely hope not, it's one of the main reasons I am not crying in my beer over the Beebs silly decision.
HERSH I can take, he's one you could have a joke with, but others just seemed to want to rile all and everyone.
By the way I'm an Ospreys fan.............

Have ket alot of the boys know about this place and they will have a look on Saturday during the matches. As for the Wums, this is a forum so its bound to attract its fair share in due course. As long as its not offensive, i dont mind the odd Wum. It certainly spices up conversations and gets the posts piling in.

Re: Will the WUMs spoil "Son of 606"?
I have to admit, I am quite suprised how against some gentle banter, I think that wumming gets thrown around a bit much. It was quite obvious on 606 when someone was wumming but I just hope that the new mods dont get overly zealous.

The only board that has flared up was the boxing board. We were a bit heavy handed at first but were asked to take a step back which we have.
We listen to what people want - we encourage banter, we only step in when it gets abusive and/ or libellous.
And if you dont like that, I will censor your post

Re: Will the WUMs spoil "Son of 606"?
I am really glad that this topic is being approached as "Wumming", but more so Trolling and Flaming really annoyed me on 606, and it is a current theme through most rugby forums that are not unique to a specific club or nationality.
It seems that the term WUM, "Wind Up Merchant", is one thing, and to be fair it reflects a difference in opinion between one person and the next, but i always thought that as a term it reflected an element of harmless teasing. And maybe should be treated as such.
Trolling or Flaming are seriously annoying internet forum habits and they are the people to try to get rid of.
Trolling:- http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=trolling
Flaming:- http://www.techterms.com/definition/flaming
The difference between Winding Someone Up, which is effectively just teasing or joking and a troll, a member who follows your every post, replying with the intention of either trying to discredit you or to antagonise you can be difficult to distinguish but their intentions are deliberately different.
You would see the difference quite clearly if you were chatting about rugby with strangers in a pub, though it is understandably far more difficult to administer on the internet.
Cyril and Nottins (+ their various other identities "sock Puppets"), were the most obnoxious on 606. They never contributed to threads, only commenting on what people had said.
I think there lies the deciding factor between knowing the intentions of a poster, whether it is to annoy or just having a joke that maybe they are taking a little further than you enjoyed.
Some one who is guilty of Trolling or Flaming in general refuses to give opinion, as they are uninterested in it.
Some one who may be accused of being a WUM, like for example WLG or Sir Baron or Greyghost etc possibly crossover the boundaries sometimes but frequently they just have a different opinion and tease people about what they personally deem to be incorrect.
To adjudicate any possible cases when a moderator is finally established on the Rugby Union section of 606 V2, I would suggest that if a poster is complained about, by an adequate number of different sources for the same reason, then their membership should be called in to question.
Deleting some ones account is a pretty harsh action in a land of free speech, but if they have chosen to ignore the freedoms granted to them and have disrespected everybody else's right to an opinion then they should be dealt with correctly.
This was never done in fairness or with accuracy on 606, there was a point where two members, Cyril and Sir Baron, were using a Feedback thread to suggest members for deletion for various crimes against the 606 House Rules. They succeeded with many attempts.
Hopefully a fair system that every member of 606 V2 rugby union can agree on will be put in to place and make this a haven for enjoyment of good rugby banter.

Maestegmafia,
The beauty of v2 is that the mods & admin are members just like yourself who recognise the difference between banter and deliberate trolling.
Im all for banter, but abusing other posters is a no go.
Banning someone is always a last resort and a route that we hate to go down.

I'm a moderator on a ex forces site and sometimes banning one person is the only way you will ensure that many more don't abandon the forum.
Many very good posters left 606 due to the persistent repetitive wumming.

I sometimes wonder if the people who complain about WUMMing have ever stepped foot inside (in this case) a rugby club on the day of an England/Wales international.
One man's WUMMing is another man's banter. I feel some people at times get a little precious over internet forum chat when far worse can be found in "real life"

Davie in real life more often than not it is just humorous banter because you know full well you could end up swallowing teeth if you crossed the line.
