I saw that. Westwood ought to be disappointed to be there though. Having hit the par 5 12th on Friday in two, leaving himself a makeable eagle putt, he walked off there this morning with a par. Managed one more birdie coming in to be -1 for his second round. Not good enough.

Re: Scottish Open
Is the open qualification from this event still just that the highest finishing player not already qualified gets into the open?
If so a great chance for monty.

Top five only. If all the top five are already in, Thomas Bjorn gets the call.

What happens if two players who have not yet qualified finish T2 behind someone who has already qualified? Highest in World Rankings, best final round?

I see, I knew I had missed something. Still a good chance for monty given he is only one of the lead.

Thomas Bjorn? He is the next highest player in the world rankings not already qualified.
ryan: In the event of ties I think the first tie-breaker is final round score as you suggest. Then second round (would have been third round) scores.
Same at John Deere except obviously it's a four-round event. Hopefully.

Re: Scottish Open
Might I ask a question of the golf anoraks on here. What is the situation is there are upwards of 4/5 players in a playoff? Do they go out in 2 groups or is it a free for all?

Re: Scottish Open
It is sudden death, so I guess they would all have to play in the same group.

Re: Scottish Open
"golf anorak"?
Can't relate to that description, can't relate to any kind of anorak come to think of it.
But: On the PGA Tour they'd go out as a fivesome, sixsome, whatever.
Don't know what the European Tour does, but I remember the dismay when the R&A sent Appleby, Elkington, Els and Levet out as two pairs. Doubt they'd do that again.

I seem to remember I missed that open but what is wrong with sending 4 guys out together in a play off?

Mac, Willy Gilly,
Apologies, they sent them out as two twosomes. So each pair couldn't see what the other pair was up to. Completely hosed that response . . . .
I'll edit my daft reply.

Great course, but the crowds seem small. What's the gate at a tournament like this if anyone knows?

The beeb said they were hoping for around 25k through the course.
To be honest I'm a tad dissapointed Luke's getting away with this, was hoping for a playoff. GMac in serious shoite here.

Re: Scottish Open
Must have been my lucky week! I went up on Thursday to see the golf and had a great day. Mananged to end up with some pretty serious looking sunburn to boot. In defence of the course I drove through some of the heaviest rain I've ever driven thro' to and from the the course that day. Thro' Aviemore was horrendous. Was also at a wedding near Peterhead on saturday and again there was some torrential rain showers driving up... and down! It was washing the central reservation on to the carridgeway so if that kind of rain settled over the golf course for any length of time then its no suprise the damage and delay it caused. Freakish.
Would love to go back to Castle Stuart for a round. Would be a great course for the amateur considering the wide fairways. Def a must play now. Managed to follow some big groups - Monty, Donald and Hanson; Hanson's ball striking really is superb. Donald's short game was just warming up when I saw him Thu, never in any trouble though. Saw the #1 going for a pee too... Monty still is a big drama queen! Oh the agony of another missed putt.. get on with it Colin! Saw a little bit of Laird, Goosen and A.Nother. Laird is a bit slow...
Oh my god Gary Woodland can bomb it!! Stood at the landing area for the drives on the par5 6th. He was 60-70 yards further down than his playing partners. Must have hit something like driver, 9iron into that hole. He had 30 yards on Westwood when I saw his drive later. Very similar how those two golfers carry themselves around the course.
Followed Paddy and Mick for a few holes. POD's game was looking solid, just some refining required. Phil was a goon one minute a genius the next! Got to witness some of the famous banter between him and his caddie, Bones. Superb! And as always he was very generous to the crowds and the kids. Bones must wonder where all the balls end up! Lawrie throws his into the gorse... he was a bit sourly when we saw him! Snedeker was suprisingly calm after we realised he'd took 9 on the 2nd! Never saw the root of that number but we did raise an eyebrow when the scorer put +9 up! Quickly changed to +4.
After getting a bit crowded out on the less favourable front 9 for spectators we decided to catch the start of the back 9, which we hadnt seen yet. Ended up following Siem, Lynn and Storm along the water for a bit. Well! Siem's english is pretty good! Never seen a golfer curse so much and that's including saturday medals at my club! Just as well there was hardly anyone following them. Storm gave it a go as well whilst complaining about being +3 after the easier front 9. Eff'ing away before his scottish caddie calmly replied, "Aye well, you'll just have tae get oan wi it then won't ye?" That was him told, just before he almost snapped his driver off the ground... this was all while David Lynn was the picture of calm and, with his rather unorthodox set up, proceeded to play some pretty good golf.
After too much of Siem's swearing and the dark Storm we decided to head home but not before we stumbled up around the corner to arrive at the quiet side of the drivable 16th where GMac was walking up to his ball with pretty much no one else around! Stood yards away from his incredibily small feet whilst he played his chip onto the green. Sand wedge, face WIDE open and THUMP! Then watched Lawrie drive it, POD putt on from 30 yards off the green, Kuchar float in a pitch and Gallacher bump and run after nearly clattering us with his tee ball. He did shout though. Was a great place to watch the variety within the best short games in the world. All watched from one of the best spots on a great course with a truly stunning setting. Well, it was when the sun was out.

Sounds a great day.
I warned you Laird was a bit slow!
I had exactly same reaction re Westwood and Woodland.
And: Don't tell gaelgowler about McDowell's feet . . . . .

Re: Scottish Open
Laird not even aware of where his playing partners' ball markers were on one green. Of course that occasionally happens to us all but it highlighted that he's maybe not always zoned in to what's going on around him. Of course totally in his own zone, which you should be, but yes... hmmm.
Comical moment, I thought, when during a torrential downpour with driving rain (only lasted 10mins) Billy Foster rips up some grass and tosses it into the air.... err... just look what direction the rain is going Billy haha!

Yes I know it is played on inland courses too, I was just prooving my point that it is played on links courses, after you categorically said it wasn't, in a kind of "you know nothing" way.George1507 wrote:JPX wrote:List of previous courses on the rota for the English shows otherwise:George1507 wrote: but the English Amateur Championship is not played on links courses.

Lairdy - have you seen that greenfees for Castle Stuart are £160 (or only £130 in April and November). Course is closed from end of November to beginning of April. Do you still want to play it???
