Richest British Boxers??
Just wondering how many British fighters of say the last 10-20 years finish up as millionaires apart from the obvious few (hatton, haye, calzaghe etc).

Re: Richest British Boxers??
When Audley turned pro he signed a 10 fight contract with the BBC which I think was worth 500k. He was reported to have earned £1m+ from the Haye fight. Not sure he had many other big earners apart from those two.

He wouldn't have got a large percentage of the purse though. But he would still have made a tidy packet.

Magri is a good shout actually, Truss. He actually attracted a fairly big following in his career and really put the Flyweight scene back on the map in Britain.
Cornelius Boza-Edwards (let's not get too worked up over the whole 'what's their real nationality?' stuff, eh lads?) did well in both his career and retirement, too. Never really seen as one of Britain's greats, but he was a popular attraction in America, and so earned a great deal more than some other fighters who were better-known on these shores, and in retirement has done fairly well on the management and promotional scene.

Re: Richest British Boxers??
probably peter buckley has made over a million in his career, he'd have only had to make around £4000 a fight and has fought a load of big names
Re: Richest British Boxers??
You think he'd get 4,000 as an oppponent in small halls..Doubt it....
If he was on a decent bill he might get that...
But small hall against an up and comer...Be lucky to get a grand.

Magri runs a pub in the East End, and it's decorated in Boxing stuff, not sure whether it's successful however!

That pub became a chain apparently, which he cashed in on. Not sure if he's found a way to get through it all, mind you.

I think wins over Tszyu, Castillo, Malignaggi, Collazo are better than anything Hamed done, but it's all about opinions, i don't rate Naz nearly as high as anyone else, he fought 1 world class fighter and got absolutely embarassed, literally got shown 'who was the daddy'. Would be wrong to put him in the same breath as Joe as well, who's superb longevity saw him come alive from 2006 onwards and school Lacey, Kessler, beat a great in Hopkins, Naz never done nothing near them levels. Then in retirement he started eating kebabs and running people over.

Yes, it's all about opinions, of course. But I can't see how anyone could class Castillo (above his best weight and had seen better days), Malignaggi or Collazo as being better, collectively, than Vasquez (the lineal champion when Hamed beat him, and had only been stripped of his WBA belt, didn't lose it in the ring), Bungu, Kelley, McCullough and Johnson. Yes, as singular wins go, Hatton's over Tszyu was better than anything Hamed did, but in terms of depth it's a no contest. To say that Hamed only faced one 'world level' fighter simply isn't true. He faced one true great and lost, but in no more an 'embarrassing' style than Hatton did against Mayweather and then Pacquiao.
Hamed was 15-0 in title fights, too, and certainly 'cleaned out' his division more conclusively than Hatton did his. Only a few places in it overall, I suppose, but Hamed simply has to be higher in my book.

Re: Richest British Boxers??
Don't rate Bungu, Kelley or McCullough (I'm Irish as well, a glorified punchbag)
He got battered by Barrera when he finally, finally stepped up, your view is respected, but i don't think the guy is what he was portrayed to be, you can't get schooled as bad as he did, then beat a spanish roadsweeper in a horrible display and not make a comeback and be a great imo, Hatton never made a comeback after Manny but he was older and had been sparked out in 2, not lost a landslide that didn't take nothing out of him.

Kevin Kelley was a quality fighter and he'll be real sorry you don't rate him..
Beat Boom boom in a unifier and that was a quality win.....

Not saying that Hamed was an all-time great, far from it. I'd agree that he fell short of that. But I do believe that his career achievements were superior to Hatton's who was also very, very good, but fell short of that almost indefinable 'great' status.
Not sure how you can say you don't rate Bungu, Kelley or McCullough if you're going to enthuse over the likes of Malignaggi (now THERE is a glorified punch bag, rather than McCullough), Collazo and Castillo on Hatton's ledger. Bungu is an all-time top ten at 122 lb (as is Vasquez, who was also a damn good Featherweight as I stated earlier), Kelley is at least comparable to Castillo in that he was an excellent fighter who was dangerous but had seen better days, and McCullough was actually a very fine boxer with a phenomenal chin. Hamed dealt with them all, and some other very good names, too.
I think there is a myth surrounding Hamed these days that he simply feasted off bums and conned the public in to thinking he was world class, which is perpetuated by the fact that he's seen as a festering character. But taking off the personal dislike goggles, that myth is just that - a myth. He faced genuine quality time and time again (more than all but a few other Brits have faced) and, as far as I'm concerned, is remembered all too much for the Barrera defeat, a defeat in which there's no shame too, I might add.

How much did Kevin Mitchell get for Katsidis fight.. It was pretty big but not PPV. But Katsidis is massive in Aussyland and Mitchell was everywhere promoting the fight as if it was a PPV event.

PPV event against Tyson was quite big then big fight against Vitali followed by a few other realtively decent profiled fights, probably made a few bob. Though the Chisora fight was just sad. =/

Herbie Hyde has a £1.5M house in Norfolk, paid from as a result of fighting and loosing badly to Vitali Klitschko plus he run of wins before this and after figght Riddick Bowe. Looked at beautiful house when I saw the interview with him.

In fairness to Hide, it's certainly not just his ring earnings which are paying for that. He invested a fair bit of his earnings in property and obviously played the market pretty well. Probably why he's continually seemed to drift in and out of boxing.

Sure Hatton was on the Times Rich List at around £8M for what he's worth.
I know Lewis has a estimated fortune at around £100-£150M in the bank.
