Next weeks game will tell us a lot about Australia regardless of the result and it will tell us a lot about New Zealand if they lose. Expect two strong teams to be named.
My preseason games also begin next saturday so should be an all round good day

Rubbish. Careless play from Ian Bell. Absolutely within there rights to take the bails off and appeal. Nothing to do with the spirit of the game in my book.

I don't think England would have to be honest with you. I was sickened a few years back when an England fielder flattened the NZ batsman on his way for a run and england ran him out. They refused to withdraw the appeal. When Collingwood was captain

dammit_chris wrote:Anyone watch the Canterbury game today guys? Really interested to see what people made of Tyler Bleyendaal - he got a try and kicked a lot of goals from the sound of it. He was the star of last years u20 tournament and quite a few have said he was natural heir to Carter in the 10 jersey, but then went a bit quiet, but looks like he's made a good start to this season

Did you watch the game Chris? I recorded it and am just watching it now.

no I didnt Pete, I am being rationed two games of rugby a weekend at the moment until the World Cup - so I watched the NZ v Boks game and didn't worry with anything else.
Be good to know what you think of him, when I watched him for the u20s he looked a class above everyone else, got on the bench a few times for Canterbury last season, but for some reason couldnt knock some guy called Dan Carter from the starting 10 shirt - not sure why, apparently Carter is the next big thing - personally not so sure...

He played alright, but nothing to write home about. Having said that it was a scrappy game with loads of handling errors and Canterbury only started to get on top when Manawatu lost Cruden to injury.
Bleyendaal I have seen a few times last season, mainly off the bench, as I love watching the ITM Cup, some fantastic rugby on show usually. I think he will do well. Unsurprisingly he is quite similar in style to DC, will be interesting to see how he progresses and will be easier to assess where he is at once he has this season under his belt.

I don't think Carter played too many games in the ITM last season Chris. Slade took them to the championship.

Good for me in this game that Chuter is released, means I have him and Gary Botha as my hookers during the World Cup. Pleased with that.

Think Sharples is nailed on Matt with Strettle & JSD released. I'd be very happy with Sharples going and good to see Worsley released too.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership Season 4 homepage
Not sure he's nailed on Pooly, will depend on the make up of the squad in other areas as to how many back three players go. Could be a good call taking him though, often a bolter can go and have a real impact as the other teams haven't/can't plan for them.

Don't think Sharples is nailed on but I'd say its now in his hands. Play well in warm ups and he has a good chance
Could just take Foden, Ashton, Cueto, Armitage, Banahan and Monye to cover back 3 with banahan covering centre as well

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership Season 4 homepage
Very interesting indeed. Poor for me on here but he was the form wing in England and apparently has gone down storming in training.
Sharples is from my old school and i bumped into the sports master at the cheltenham cricket festival saturday. he was saying the reason sharples gets better and better is that he is so bright. apparently both parents are doctors and he was going that way.
Having a brain helps big time. considering other players from my school like Garvey and Lamb are brain dead mongs it really illustrates the point. they were never going to go all the way and figure things out

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership Season 4 homepage
Did people see Eddie Jones' comments about why England wont win the WC? All about the halfbacks...doesnt think YOungs and Flood are clever enough and make the right decisions, points at the Ireland game where they just looked to run it and got mullered by the Irish backrow for 80mins.
Agree with him, Floods come on leaps and bounds but never in a million years will he be a world class player, is capable of great things but not consistently, Wilko would always start for me.
What do people think of YOungs form? He seemed to drift well off around January time or so...

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership Season 4 homepage
Youngs looked ok to me Chris. He has the potential to be a very very good international scrum half. Needs to work on his game still, but has the basics and has all the attributes to get there.
I have said before that Flood is not a top class international 10 and never will be. He will have occasional great games but will never play to a world class standard consistently. Is Wilko the answer? I am not sure. Although still international class he is probably past his best, and post world cup England need to think long and hard about who their long term 10 should be and start blooding them as early as possible.

He's been slightly off form in a gold jersey but had a great S15, odd call. Think Vickerman brings a bit more grunt which they lack a little.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership Season 4 homepage
I wouldn't read too much into it. Deans probably just wants to get Vickerman some game time and have a look at him. He knows what Sharpe brings and I'll be surprised if he isn't in the World Cup squad.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership Season 4 homepage
Vickerman has barely played in years and for me would struggle. Simmons is a good prospect but for me is being played at least a season or two to soon. good experience thought but you would not win a world cup with Simmons at lock

Bold statement Steve....I'd say he needs to get in the side first, depending on options at 6 I'd have O'Brien and Barclay ahead of him myself.

Lions is still 2 years away, and I doubt if many of the players who made the trip in 2009 would have been nailed on starters in 2007.
Too much can happen between now and then to be honest for any predictions to have much basis. If he carries on the way he has been, he'll be a contender for sure, but who knows who else might stick their hand up between now and then.

It's all speculation, the lions teams on the main board drive me mad. I'd take SOB well over Warbs at 7 if Ferris/Heaslip fit, all opinions though. Warbs is progressing well.
