One sided fights that went the wrong way
Stealing an idea from Captain slightly whom I hope doesn't mind but it got me thinking about one sided fights that were expected to be an easy victory for the loser, will start with some more recent examples but hope to get input from all over
Hopkins vs Pavlik
The younger, fresher Kelly Pavlik was expected to beat his legendary opponent with ease and was even being tipped to become the first man to stop him but what ended up happening was a schooling from which Pavlik may never recover from
Mosley vs Margarito
Regardless of the question marks now hanging over the Tijuana Tornados head he was expected to have an easy night with another Nazim Richardson fighter who had looked poor for years but ended up on the receiving end of the beating of his life, an almost punch perfect fight from Sugar Shane
Foreman vs Frazier
The more experienced Smokin' Joe was under taking what was thought to be a routine defence against the slugger Big George but was blown away by a performance that ranks up there near the top in the divisions history, knocked down 5 times before being stopped in the second

The recent Morales v Maidana fight Ghosty, nobody gave Morales a chance including myself, Maidana was outboxed with ease IMO.

Wasn't Juanma Lopez's loss meant to be a precursor to a Gamboa mega fight?

Re: One sided fights that went the wrong way
Both Rosario and Gomez were heavy betting favourites to beat Chavez and Sanchez respectively in their title fights. I'm not sure that it was predicted to be easy for the favourites, exactly, but they were definitely expected to win. As we know, the results were utterly conclusive in favour of the betting underdogs.
Dare I mention the Curry-Honeyghan fight? Just quietly, perhaps - an obvious example, really. Benvenuti-Monzon was another classic of the genre - no-one really expected the wild bloke with the straight-up stance to trouble the golden boy of European boxing, far less to lay such a thorough beating on him.

Strange looking back now to even for a second consider Chavez, Sanchez or Monzon to be the underdog in any fight let alone those ones, like the picks though, class fighters being taken apart by a legend

Tyson v Douglas another one, Douglas it was hoped could last a few rounds after Tyrell Biggs left the Tokyo crowd feeling short changed, a proper boxing lesson for Mike.

I'll be obvious and offer Douglas-Tyson.

You do look particularly obvious in doing so immediately after it's been mentioned...

Was tempted to say Liston/Clay but it was a fairly even fight before it stopped at the end of the 6th as was Lewis/Rahman
Calzaghe dominating Lacy seems another obvious choice

Re: One sided fights that went the wrong way
Vivian Harris getting stopped by Maussa, the former was still a player of sorts @ 140 and somehow got stopped by a guy who didn't appear to actually throw a punch properly. Made Maidana's big big wide wide wild swinging hooks look like short crisp punches ffs!
Ali vs Spinks, as shot as the former was. Ali vs Liston I one as well.

De La Hoya vs. Pacquaio:
People thought De La Hoya was picking on the smaller guy, everyone called it a freak show - "Oscar's too big for this lightweight, the fight shouldn't happen!" people were saying... up until the week of the fight and De La Hoya emerges from his camp looking like a zombie.
We all know what followed.
A recent favourate that had me almost cry with joy was...
Kirkland vs Ishida:
Kirkland was billed (like Danny Jacobs) as the next big thing, only Jacobs didn't get in trouble with the law and took a dangerous fight in Pirog. Kirkland however decided to get back on track by getting in the ring with over matched journey men every fortnight - matching him against guys who can't punch...
SOMEHOW Ishida catches Kirkland within 20 seconds of the first and Kirkland goes to pot. This was a guy NO ONE gave a chance to. A powder puff puncher who was merely cannon fodder to the "next Tyson".

Dempsey v Willard
They feared for Dempsey's life before the fight.

Since then Kirkland's been fed another bum who'd lost all his previous six fights, and is now due to fight on the Khan-Judah undercard, presumably against another stiff. Ishida meanwhile goes back to journeyman limbo because he's a no-name. Another example of why boxing is a farce.

Re: One sided fights that went the wrong way
Morales Raheem must be right up there. Also whilst he can blow a bit hot and cold nobody saw Baldomir turning Judah over coming.

I'd also throw in Morales v Barrera 1. Barrera was a massive outsider and, in all honesty, wahcked El Terrible from pillar to post.

I thought our Macklin did a good job against Sturn even though most people expected it to be a one sided fight.
