Orange is a fantastic shirt colour.
Holland know it.
Why doesn't any other country use it as their change/away strip?

Because Orange is appropriate to the Dutch (look at their other sports kits) and not any other country I suppose. I've seen plenty of orange club shirts though.

Don't the Ivory Coast sometimes play in orange in football?

Good point Portnoy. Its bright, not many teams use it and looks good.

The Refs use it!

Re: Orange is a fantastic shirt colour.
I've always thought that the Irish Rugby team should have orange as their away strip as a nod to our northern cousins.
It does take up one third of our (Republic) national flag afterall.

It's a fantastic colour - especially if the crowd don it. It's a TV spectacle.

ì sometimes think that bright jerseys are bad in rugby
It helps the other team in defence, its easier to see them and alot easier to see them on your peripheral vision

Re: Orange is a fantastic shirt colour.
Orange is a colour that is supposed to provoke hostility so maybe people don't pick orange as they don't want people to hate them?

Re: Orange is a fantastic shirt colour.
It would have been a less provocative colour for England to select in NZ.
Orange tee-shirts would be a cheap option for RWC attendees. And it impresses. Better than Oz putting yellow bin-bags over empty seats...

Well canterbury have done alot of work on this
When they made porthsmouths jerseys they had specific colours and shapes on there jerseys
to make it easier for a team mate to see them, they made the goalkeepers jersey distracting

It would look extremely odd on the Welsh side. Imagine the fake tan brigade in orange kits, Henson and Byrne in particular would be pretty tough on the eye.

Re: Orange is a fantastic shirt colour.
Statistics show that yellow is the most successful colour. Australia two RWC trophies, Brazil the most successful football team. Both Germany and SA's strips feature the colour yellow. They are also very sucessful in football and rugby respectively. Is it a coincidence the leading rider in the tour de France wears yellow. Nope. Wear yellow if you want to succeed. Fact!

Ha! Edited now. I reckon I'd fit quite well into the Welsh side actually. I haven't played for ages so would be selected on prior glories, I'm a little lightweight for a forward these days plus have a penchant for missing tackles and I drive a golf buggy like a man possessed!

Irish football used to use Orange as their away jersey colour I think possibly for the Korea/Japan WC. It was a disaster.

I would like the Ireland change strip to be Orange.
We have a flag which is green, white and orange- we only really use the first two colours.

England should have definitely snapped orange up.
It's the most televisual colour of them all. And I'd guess that they'll be sufficient English over in NZ to make a show in the stands.

I was going to say New Zealand, but then I realised I would kick off the same debate about how many New Zealanders there were in the England team.

I’m glad that English rugby has moved with the times, England is a multi culture society so why shouldn’t its sports teams represent that?

Re: Orange is a fantastic shirt colour.
I see the problem here.
You're getting this:
mul·ti·cul·tur·al·ism
[muhl-tee-kuhl-cher-uh-liz-uhm, muhl-tahy-]
–noun
1.
the state or condition of being multicultural.
2.
the preservation of different cultures or cultural identities within a unified society, as a state or nation.
Confused with this:
Ringer
n.
the obvious choice; the best match for one's needs; the most likely choice. : That's the best horse racing today. It's a ringer if I ever saw. one.

Notch,
It's a nice thought, but no way. It would look all wrong, I think we should get away from the white alt shirt though, it's a bit bland.

Im sure O2 would have been about as appreciative of england getting an Orange kit as the residents of Garvaghy road would be if Ireland went orange.

Re: Orange is a fantastic shirt colour.
But it is white!
I suspect the England black kit will have flashes of red (similar to the Nike Toulouse Kit) but that hasn't stopped some (not all) NZ fans spitting their dummies out.
It's not like England will call themselves the all blacks, unlike the all blacks who copied the name from the Welsh all blacks.

And to this day, New Zealand still aspires to be as good as Wales.

No need to bring politics into it. It is part of the national flag of Ireland after all.
Of course, the National Flag of Ireland is itself the embodiment of a political ideal BUT it is time to leave this one here

Notch, Irish Rugby has its own flag and has nothing to do with orange. I feel myself its a very political colour and think we'd be bringing politics to where none existed previously.
