Declan Kidney - How I see it!
First topic message reminder :
This is the first topic im going to post here as id like to give my view on what I believe Declan Kidney has done since his appointment to the Irish set up.
When EOS was manager of Ire there were well documented issues within the camp. The irish set up under EOS had under achieved consistantly with the so called "golden generation".
Then came along a certain Mr. Kidney who like him or loath him for years had managed to carry on and instill in the Munster set up a bunch of players who wanted to play for each other and the fans. In fact, the Munster ethos was acknowledged worldwide.
In Mr. Kidney came to the Irish set up and he was fully aware that his first port of call was getting the Irish players to play for each other before he started messing around with names on the team sheet. He done this, and in 2009, the so called "golden generation" delivered some very nice pieces of silverware and went unbeaten. A feat in itself. And before people start bleating on about last minute trys, poor quality rugby and underperforming Aussie teams you would do well to remember the old saying you can only play the 15 men in front of you!! And this was something EOS had failed to do for years with a very similar looking team sheet.
After 2009, Mr. Kidney achieved his first task and got confidence and belief back in this Irish squad, however accepted and knew that Ireland had to move forward with the times. Players were coming to the end of there international carreers and there was a world cup coming around the corner. He brought in some young players. Some worked out well, some not so well. Irelands results suffered due to changes in play and personel changes however showing odd bits of brilliance along the way.
Here we are now going into a world cup with a team who have been in transition for 2 years without a 6N. I for one would definately rather be in Irelands position than any of the other 6N teams. And I include France in that. Say what you want about our inconsistancy over the last couple of years. But we recently put a highly confident very much fancied English side who demolished all in front of them in the 6N to the sword.
So in summary, what has Mr Kidney done?
1. Instill the Munster ethos in the Irish squad and get the players playing for each other - Check
2. Deliver a much sought after Grand Slam - Check
3. Blood some new players - Check
4. Adapt Irelands play - Check
And more importantly - Send a confident Irish squad to the 2011 world - Check
So Mr. Kidney. Hopefully in October I can add to this topic - World Cup Final - Check
If you want to comment on this post, please dont put me down as cocky or arrogant. Im not. I am just confident that we can do some damage in the world cup. What is the point in jumping on the plane if you do not believe this. Roll on the WC!!

Can't say that I have Thom. I'd heard that it wasn't great though. Such a shame...

I love the turnips they sell at Thomond Park. Remember that match when John Hayes actually stopped the game to go and get one
Re: Declan Kidney - How I see it!
Is it true they have changed the taste of Tanora? I wasnt a massive fan of the club milks to be honest. The little cadbury snack was my choice of chocolate sandwich to be honest!
Is this how this place works! I put a lot of thought into my article and now im talking about Tanora!!
Awesome!!

This is how Irish people work,we get sidetracked. They have changed Tanora although apparently you can vote to change back on their facbook page. A bit like Coke did in the 80's.

Corkman, its the way it is. In fact you should check out the Virtual Pub thread. Its a place we just chatter away about anything. It is tough to keep things on topic especially with Ireland as its nearly all we discuss nowadays.
Its different in regular season

Ciaran Ruddock, Rhys Ruddock, Tommy Bowe, Stewart Maguire, those Welsh lads at Connacht who IRFU had the legal battle to get them recognised for Ireland. And of course we've got Wales Grandslam manager Mike Ruddock content to run our kiddies day care team
All roysh Staggy pal? Man, that sounds like an opportunity for a Welsh WUM orticle. Not that you'd ever do anything like that...
BTW, I thought Kidneys extension was for a year at 1st. It's for 2 bleedin years. In fairness, it makes more sense and he is heading in all the right directions for me. Just needs to usher-in some more changes after this WC. That will be tough.
Lads... question - which players do ye think should be slowly phased-out after it?
My choices:
Darcy
BOD (by the end of 2012/2013 season)
Wally
Paddy Wallace
Hayes & Horan (if they are not gone already)
Ferris only has so much time left... persistent knee-injury - not form or class.
Murray, Jones, Strauss and McFadden in. Ulster fans will have Cave, Gilroy and Marshall to promote. Exciting times...

Gibbo,I think his extension is for a year but his contract was up till after the WC anyway. Flannery,ROG,BOD,Wally,D'Arcy and possibly Stringer will get phased out.

Re: Declan Kidney - How I see it!
Oh yeah. Club Milks and Tayto. Washed down by Taylor-Keith red-lemonade for lunch-break.
Its no wonder we're all so healthy...

Yeah T, forgot about De Fla. One of my all time favs. Stringer yeah... Murray in. But we need ROG for a while yet. Himself and Sexton have a great rivalry going on. It's lifted the team. Who's going to replace him? Keatley maybe... Cant see Humph doing it... not at this stage.

Kind of has to be the boy Keatley really, unless the provs have some Dan O'Carter hiding in the wings that they aren't mentioning. Im betting its them cute Ulster hoooors!
Anybody almost more excited by RWC 2015 (from an Irish POV)??

Ona, totally agree. I sincerely believe, that is when we will realistically challenge for it. As well as every 6-N we play in from here on in (there for a long time already - with the mental barrier of France receding). No more dreaming.

Dreamer, something incredibly flirtatious about that threat. Maybe its the idea of the lady in red.
Anyway this is how you'd pay me back for my comments about Bombadil.
Maybe I could have a new type of wum where I write in red and pretend I'm a mod.

you could try it but am not sure it would work. You'd have to figure out how to change your name blue first and get yourself a mod icon......
