Music Cup Round 2 - The 27 Club (pick three)
Music Cup Round 2: The 27 Club
As there's been another addition to the club in the past week I thought this would be quite a topical round to go with. Been some great choices coming in so as usual please pick your 3 favourite in the poll.
I will on hols as of Friday so I'm also announcing next weeks round, please ensure that you have your choice in as of 5pm on Thursday so I can forward them onto my volunteer guest host!
Next weeks round is...
Songs with 'love' in the title.

Two of my nominations are up there - unfortunately my first choice is not doing as well as my second.
Some good (and odd choices)

Voted for Satisfaction, Motorcycle Emptiness and Back to Black.
Perhaps showing my lack of musical knowledge- but is Voodoo Child by Jimi Hendrix similar to the song with the same name by the Rogue Traders?

One is buy a legendary black guitarist, one is by the bird from Neighbours.
I think Jimi just turned in his grave.

Just YouTube'd it, I think I've heard it before, but I'm more familiar with the Rogue Traders song

It's only me I think that has a love for them, my dad was a huge fan so I was brought up on him playing the albums.
It could be worse, you could have a Fairport Convention, Sandy Denny and early Genesis round!

Not at all! I think they are great too - but then that's expected from someone my age. Right Clarke?

It's closer than I thought, I thought Smells Like Teen Spirit would run away with this

Re: Music Cup Round 2: The 27 Club
It's a great track without doubt, it just gets overplayed, whenver you hear a radio DJ say they're going to play a Nirvana track you know 9 times out of 10 that it'll be that one which is a shame as they did a load of really great other tracks.
Re: Music Cup Round 2: The 27 Club
I hope Smells Like Teen Spirit doesn't run away with it! It's a good song but I think it's developed this reputation as defining Nirvana's sound, and I'm not sure it does.
Like Hero says it can't help that it is ridiculously overplayed!

Re: Music Cup Round 2: The 27 Club
It's a problem all big bands suffer. Their most played song isn't always the best
Smoke On The Water
Back In Black
Another Brick In The Wall
Paranoid
Stairway To Heaven
All suffer the same fate (though when I was doing my internet radio show I would sometimes play "Smoke" because songs like that get so overplayed that people shy away from them and they end up UNDER played!)

Re: Music Cup Round 2: The 27 Club
This round is reminding me of how to play this cup game. Dont actually pick good songs, just the popular ones that will appeal to the demographic of this board.
Boo to the lot of you.

Re: Music Cup Round 2: The 27 Club
I picked.
Vodoo Child
Piece of my heart - had to pick a Joplin song even though this wasn't one of her best.
All along the watchtower - anyone who can improve on a Dylan original has my admiration.

I didn't pick a Nirvana song as my choice but I would have gone with Lithium, R@pe Me, Polly or In Bloom.
Re: Music Cup Round 2: The 27 Club
In Bloom would have been my choice for a Nirvana song.

Not only does Dass have good movie taste, he also picked my song!
Re: Music Cup Round 2: The 27 Club
Come As You Are for me, but there isn't much in it between that and an extensive chasing pack. The album of theirs I listen to most is the Unplugged album, which has a few excellent covers on it too.

Re: Music Cup Round 2: The 27 Club
I would've been torn between Smells Like Teen Spirit and Lithium.
Question:
If Richie Edwards turns up between now and the end of the round do the 2 Manics songs become void?

I'm sure that Electric would be willing to drop his current last place points for the return of his saviour.
Perhaps that's where he's gone on hols to?

I'm intrigued into what you do like now because you've also mentioned you hate new music in a past post.
Are you the lone Country fan?

Re: Music Cup Round 2: The 27 Club
With that cross section, I am amazed there isnt anything in this round you like.
For example, Paint it Black (not my choice I hasten to add) would fit in with a lot of that music. Same goes for the Manics.

Like about 60% of that list and some of my favourite bands on that list, strange then that barring Amy Winehouse I like most of the artists in the poll

My tag partner has let me down
You picked a woman and the second most talented one on that list (there are only two!) Shame on you!

Re: Music Cup Round 2: The 27 Club
i think you got my second choice - how bizarre is that!
The only song I think that might have challenged that didnt appear was 'passenger' by iggy pop (one of the stooges was in the 27 club)
