Your top 5 albums of all time
First topic message reminder :
Well let me be the man to pop the music boards cherry :bitchslap:
So I didn't post a great deal on the old 606 (but I'm gonna change that) and I'm sure there will be a few others like me so lets get to know one another and see what everybodies taste in music is like.
Like the title said what are your top 5 albums of all time?
Mine would look a little like this
1) Guns N' Roses - Appetite for Destruction
2) The Misfits - Collection Vol.1
3) Zombina and the Skeletones - Death Valley High
4)Nekromantix - Return of the Loving Dead
5)Send More Paramedics - The Hallowed and the Heathen
If I wrote this next week the answers would probably be completely different depending on my mood.

Hard to select just five, and there are many that I have missed no doubt, but I'm selecting on the amount I listen to them, and the fact I never skip tracks on these ones!
What's the Story Morning Glory - Oasis
Humbug - Arctic Monkeys
Is This It? - The Strokes
Up the Bracket - The Libertines
Pinkerton - Weezer

Re: Your top 5 albums of all time
Yeh i know its not the normal album that everone loves but for me it is such a fantastic drug-addled loud masterpiece. You can tell they are all off their heads. Plus I remember vividly, queuing up on Thursday August 21st 1997 to but it. The anticipation i had for that album was immense. It changed my life.
Definitely Maybe sparked my attention, What's The Story made me think 'this lot are pretty good'. Be Here Now made me fall in 'musical' love with Oasis. I now own all their singles and all their albums. I have a copy of the MTV unplugged show Noel did around 1995. I also have a live album of theirs from a Swedish radio station I found on York market.
I even appreciate Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants. And that album has Little James on it!!!

Standing on the Shoulder of Giants has some decent tracks within it but it is let down by some of the others. Go Let It Out, Gas Panic, F***ing in the Bushes, Sunday Morning Call, all some of my favourite Oasis tracks!
Be Here Now was the first Oasis album I listened to, and I still loved them. Stand By Me and All Around The World were good enough to carry the album alone for me.

Absolutely love Sunday Morning Call. One of my favourite Oasis songs, I think they should have released that as a sole single rather than the double A side. It got lost in the mix I think.
What's your fave track Sodhat? Personally, mine is Whatever.

It's not a bad album, but I was like you, queueing for the damn thing, then when I listened to it, felt cheated.
That MTV show was great. Liam had a sore throat from what I recall, so Noel sang. I recorded and drove my Mum mad by playing it almost every night before dinner. I think she actually liked a couple of their songs though

I've always liked Don't Look Back in Anger most, up there with Stand By Me, The Hindu Times (for some reason), Whatever, too.
I could probably make some space up there for some tracks on The Masterplan too - The Masterplan itself, Underneath the Sky, Stay Young et al.

Re: Your top 5 albums of all time
Outside of Definitely Maybe Oasis albums become progressively more patchy and dull for me. Decent enough band and Noel can write a decent enough song but they are luddites. You could take a song off their last album and put it on any of the earlier ones and it would not look out of place, no experimentation or progression. Liked them well enough when they started but they got really boring, really quickly for me

Yeh the MTV show is amazing. Liam is in the crowd heckling him I believe. The version of Cast No Shadow and Don't Look Back In Anger are brilliant.

In retrospect Be Here Now for me sits higher than What's the Story on the Oasis tree. Definately Maybe though was the best by a long distance.

Blasphemy.
What's The Story is always going to be my number, clearly. In order I go:
1. What's The Story
2. Definitely Maybe
3. The Masterplan
4. Heathen Chemistry
5. Be Here Now
6. Dig Out Your Soul
7. Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants
8. Don't Believe The Truth

Hey Now is possibly the weakest song on the album, I agree Jeff. She's Electric can be taken as jaunty fun for me. Champagne Supernova the best closing track of all time though?

I was about to say it's too long, but Champagne Supernova itself is on the decadant side, time-wise.
Still, can't take the Roses over Oasis. They'd be below The Smiths for me in terms of Manchester bands too...

I occassionally watch wrestling, although the habit is slowly dying. I've replaced it with a plethora of other American sports that I imagine are largely frowned upon, though.
I think you know you masturbate excessively when you ask someone to define what they mean by excessive, Dave.

Sodhat,
I would assume "excessively" meant you were skipping meals, taking days off work or missing the funerals of close relatives in order to satisfy the Gods of Onanism.
My favourite story about this subject is a fella who was asked by a marriage guidance counsellor how many times a week he masturbated. He replied, "About three and a half!"
Half a w*nk, what's all that about?

What's the Story? Was the 1st album I ever bought so it gets into my top 5 anyway. Would have a top 5 of just Springsteen albums but I'll just keep 1 in for the challenge.

2 Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
3 59 Sound - The Gaslight Anthem
4 What's the Story? - Oasis
5 The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan - Bob Dylan

No particular order and I'd probably come up with a different five every day....
'Revolver' by The Beatles
'Astral Weeks' by Van Morrison
'The Stone Roses'
'1999' by Prince and the Revolution
And then either 'Never Mind the ********' by the Sex Pistols or 'Home Thoughts from Abroad' by Clifford T. Ward, a formerly guilty pleasure that I'm now embracing a bit more thanks to my old man trumpeting Clifford every chance he's ever had

Nice shout for Van the Man chris, am something of a relatively late convert to the mans qualities but agree Astral Weeks is a belter. His early stuff with Them is cracking as well. A fine example of 60's R&B for anyone who is into that sort of stuff, as I am.

I love Van the Man, Jeff. Saw him live in Nottingham in 2007. Bit of a miserable git as he often is, but his actual performance was fantastic.
His stuff can cure just about any mood I'm in!
