I hope Ireland will have their 1st choice backrow out there. Having a fully fit Heaslip/O'Brian and Ferris will be the best way to test if Beattie is back to match fitness and let us see how Ross Rennie can last 80 minutes against world class opposite numbers.

I'm predicting a lot of upset Irish poster bashing Kidney for his awful selection then about 300 posts arguing some small and silly point which has very little bearing on the game.

I can see it too, people seem to gloss over the fact that this is a "warm up". Sigh!
I think our backs could look quite tasty I don't expect a very strong pack though.

Getting frustrated with some of the content on v2 MBTGOG? I'm inclined to agree with you, it's the offseason and restless rugby nuts (like myself) are jumping down the throat of a lot of opinions made about silly points.

The Irish content yes. 3/400 posts on Irish rugby topics and nothing much has ever been discussed apart from O'Leary's passing, Paddy Wallace's limitations, Denis Leamy's discipline and just how bad Fitzgerald is.

It would be nice to move on from all of that, it is off season so people are bored, the thing that wrecks my head is my provinces 10 is better than your provinces 10 etc.
Would be nice to look at up and coming players for 2015 and talk about more stuff in the IRFU rather than just the Irish team and extended squad

Re: Irish Team Naming Thread
I'm expecting a pretty scrappy match, lots of mistakes, knock ons etc as mentioned above it is a warm up game and the first one at that ...so I'm not expecting a feast of free flowing attacking rugby.
As for the result, i expect a pretty close contest with ireland edging it by 3 points but this match for me is all about getting the players ticking over and the start of getting match fitness ( and testing/renewing combinatins) in the build up to the world cup.

As long as we get a look at some of the will they/won't they players. some of Murray/Jones/McFadden/Cave/Kearney to get a chance to show they should go.
I will go mad if we put out our best possible XV. FIRST warm up game!

I think we'll see something like:
Court, Cronin, Hayes
Ryan, Cullen
McLaughlin,Leamy, O'Brien
TOL, Sexton,
Fitzgerald, Wallace, McFadden, Trimble
Jones/Kearney
I think Kidney will be keen to assess some of the "possibles" i.e. those who are in contention for the final couple of spots in the squad. I'd say 99% of the squad has already been decided and I think we'll see something closer to the test squad in the French and English games.

Not sure I can see SOB playing, he's had a pretty tough long season.
I think the bench will be particularily interesting.
Any idea what time it is announced at? And if it is streamed live?

OK then Pete what do you think for openside? Is Wallace or Jennings available?
It's live on BBC2, I'm not sure if you can get that?

Re: Irish Team Naming Thread
Most Irish have BBC2 I am pretty sure.
Openside could be Chris Henry maybe Wallace. Think Jennings is a week behind in pre-season although I can't be 100% on that one.
Would be handy to see Jennings and Leamy playing together in 1 match.

Come on Munster, who cares about name spelling. I don't even get worked up by spellings, and McLaughlin is MY surname!
Yea its on BBC2, which is great for us Northerners, south of the border you could get it on bbc online if you got a proxy or something!

I'd like to see Leamy play 8 with Jennings at 7. Six is up in the air!

I'd like to see that backrow too with kev McLaughlin at 6. Possibly Henry on the bench.
I like Cave a lot I have to say but don't see the point in playing him really if he isn't in contention for the 30 man squad when players like McFadden, Earls and even Duffy are.

I installed a shiny new freesat box in my new place last night. Works a treat and picks up all the BBCs (including HD), ITVs, Channel 4 and its variations. One off cost for perfect picture, plus all the regional variations so I get to watch Ulster and the regions when the Pro12 starts too.
Delighted to hear this one is being televised. I was getting worried there for a while.
I agree with pete, I can't see SOB featuring in this one at all. He looked jaded in the ML final, moreso than anyone really. Considering the effort he put into the season just gone I can see him being "rested" - if that's the right word considering no-one's played since May.
Anyone know if there'll be a video stream for the announcement? I know they normally do it for the 6 Nations games, maybe not these though.

Agreed. His problem, I guess (if you can call it that) is he's probably an out and out 13?

I am applying to TG4 for a commentary position and was doing a few pracitse showreels. I saw the HCup final tape and I thought yeah will try that, so did the first 5 mins of the second half (obviously! ).
The amount of time SOB carried the ball within 5 mins is actually terrifying! I encourage everyone to go and watch those first 5 minutes, every second ruck he carries at times and it always takes 2 guys to take him down if not more.
Point is, that I think he was jaded in the ML for a good reason and would actually prefer him not to be playing in this game

Class, pulled up on the correcting the spelling of McLaughlin by a guy called Clive McLaughlin
I'm a bit of a pedant myself, the amount of "Irish" posters who can't spell Connacht........
Anyway. Back row is interesting. Lack of 7s (and too many 6s) is always an issue for Ireland. Jennings not ready with his elbow. Wallace possibly a week behind. SOB the same (imho 7 is his worst position of the 3) Henry looks like he may get a run but he is not really a 7 either. Probably better at 8 or even 6.
The Only reason SOB plays 7 is he is a little too short and heavy for the lineout, so a taller 6 get's a go.

I got it from Amazon. It was about £90, maybe a touch under. I just hooked it up to an existing Sky dish (you can buy your own kit for ~£30 though, easy to install too since it doesn't have to be up high) and I was up and running in minutes. Very easy.

Any satellite box will pick them up (Inc Sky) With Sky they are not on the epg. you have to go into other channels.

I wouldn't like to see us play a backrow of something like McLaughlin - Henry - Leamy. I think it'd be far too weak against that Scottish backrow. Rennie would have a field day on the floor against Henry.

I can see us having little choice but to play Wallace there. Like I said earlier, I'd rest O'Brien for it. Of course, I'm not in the camp so maybe O'Brien is raring to go.
I'd imagine the backrow will end up being the one I named in the post above, but I think it'd be a silly move on the coaching staff's part. It'd have a massive knock on effect on the rest of the team and I could easily see us losing the match as a result.

I'm just about to get rif of my BT Vision box, and was going to go for a regular freeview recorder box. But the Freesat sounds the biz, with all the seperate region options! I wonder if it will give me RTE if it gives you BBC??

Geordan Murphy has been released back to Tigers so he can play in their friendly on Monday night. Making sure he gets some training in with them before hand and some game time before returning to the Ireland squad.

I've just binned sky and bought a Humax freesat recorder. Tis ace, obviously fewer channels but much better quality picture. Don't get RTE or the Sky sports though but there are certain websites...

Woah. Means 2 of Kearney, Jones and earls are in the 22 so.
Is the friendly on Monday on tv at all?

I'm just about to get rif of my BT Vision box, and was going to go for a regular freeview recorder box. But the Freesat sounds the biz, with all the seperate region options! I wonder if it will give me RTE if it gives you BBC??
Am I correct in saying that Freeview can be picked up via aerial? In RoI and some parts of NI (mainly south Down, south Armagh etc) you can pick up Saorview which is Ireland's version of Freeview. The thing about Freesat (and Freeview) is that it doesn't provide you with the RoI terrestrial channels (RTE, TV3, TG4). You'd need Saorview for this, and as I said, you have to be pretty much on the border to have a chance of picking that up.
I would fully recommend Freesat over Freeview though given that apart from the extra cost of the dish you get all the regional variations, plus a better picture.

Some freesat boxes allow you the option of adding channels which can be done if you have the right frequencies.

I get Freeview via an Ariel in the North and will be watching the game through that method

Exactly. All the frequencies are available online. It's just a case of making sure you're pointed at the right satellite(s). Astra 2D mainly, and Eurobird 1 should be the ones you need. As far as I know Sky News is available for free as a non-Freesat channel which you have to tune in manually.
If Murphy has been released it's almost certain that it'll be Kearney to start with Jones on the bench. Do people see Earls featuring in this one? I doubt it.
