What order should I watch the Star Wars films?
Never Seen Star Wars - You Decide!
I have seen bits of the original Star Wars films, but don't really know the story. I saw Episode 1 but can't remember much of it. In short I've never seen Star Wars.
So, my question to you is in what order should I watch them?

I think they are supposed to be watched 4-6 then 1-3 to be honest, although I'd try and find copys of 4-6 before they've been updated with really stupid CGI aliens.

Re: Never Seen Star Wars - You Decide!
I've only seen the original three Star Wars films - not sure where they fit into the six films...I saw Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back on TV when I was kid (used to be on every Christmas without fail) and I saw Return of the Jedi in the cinema.

Re: Never Seen Star Wars - You Decide!
Given the choice I'd just watch 4-6 and blank 1-3 from my mind forever.
Re: Never Seen Star Wars - You Decide!
3, 5 & 6 are my favourites. I like to watch them in order from 1-6 as 1-3 sets the story for 4-6.
Contains spoilers from Star Wars:

- Spoiler:
- Padme dies giving birth to Luke and Leia so Obi Wan, Yoda and Senator Organa decide to hide them from Anakin.
I don't get why people dislike the prequels so much, especially 3, the turning of Anakin to the dark side and the final battle between Obi Wan and Anakin is epic. .
Re: Never Seen Star Wars - You Decide!
I do agree with you MtM that I think the prequels get unnecessary criticism at times, they're not as bad as people like to make out.

I was the idiot that voted for 1-6, meant 3,5,6,1,2,3 so should really read 6-0

Re: Never Seen Star Wars - You Decide!
i would agree that 3 can stand on its own, however the first 2 aren't up to par, bar the brief Yoda lightsaber fight in attack of the clones. Agree about the end battle between Anakin and Obi Wan loved it bar the bit about Anakin trying to take the high ground, yes he would have confidence in his powers however the tactician in him i would have thought would say to have gone on the main land further away then regain a level height......

Re: Never Seen Star Wars - You Decide!
@Enforcer: Strictly speaking, if you want to see events unfold in chronological order, you should watch:
I. Phantom Menace
II. Attack of the Clones
III. Revenge of the Sith
IV. A New Hope
V. Empire Strikes Back
VI. Return of the Jedi
The events of 4-6 follow on from the new films. All the Jedi are supposedly murdered in the attack on the temple and elsewhere throughout the galaxy in Revenge of the Sith, but Anakin's children Luke and Leia are taken to safe places (Tatooine and Alderran) where they grow up unaware of each others' existence.

- Spoiler:
During the Empire's efforts to stamp out the Rebel Alliance, Alderran is destroyed on Vader's orders, as a test of the first Death Star's main weapon. Leia is made to watch, having been captured in the opening scenes of A New Hope. Luke, who already wants to join the rebels, returns home from his meeting with Obi-Wan (where he learns something of his past) to find his aunt and uncle murdered.
With no reason to stay on Tatooine any longer, Luke and Obi-Wan go in search of the Rebels. Having learned his father was a Jedi and that he possesses similar abilities, Luke goes in search of Yoda to be properly trained, but only partially completes his training, going back to join in the Rebel attack on the Death Star.
In Empire Strikes Back, the Rebels have gone to ground on the ice planet of Hoth, but are eventually discovered, leading to an evacuation under attack. Going from memory here, so I could be wrong, but I think this is the one where they hook up with Lando Carlrissian on the Cloud City of Bespin (basically a huge space station). Unfortunately Vader beats them to it and they walk into a trap. Han Solo gets frozen in carbonite to be a trophy for Jabba the Hutt. Luke and Vader have a lightsabre duel in the carbonite freezing area, which moves through the station, culminating in the famous scene where Vader reveals he is Luke's father (after cutting off his hand). Luke refuses his father's offer to join him and lets go of the pylong he's holding onto falling through a chasm in the station's core, landing on another one on the station's exterior. He uses his Jedi mind powers to contact Leia and she and Lando fly back in the Falcon to rescue him.
I'm a little hazy about how ROTJ starts but the Rebel Alliance survives and discovers the Empire is constructing a new, larger Death Star. Luke goes back to Tatooine to rescue Solo, but gets caught and they both have to be rescued by Leia and Lando. The Alliance command make plans to destroy the Death Star but discover its protected by an energy shield, which is powered by a facility on a nearby moon. The main characters plan and launch an attack on the moon base, while the Rebel fleet assembles. Luke allows himself to get captured to try and convince his father to renounce the Dark Side and help him overthrow the Emperor.

I think that you should watch 4-6 then watch Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull.
This will make you appreciate that 1-3 arent as bad as George could have made them. They will seem acceptable.

If someone hasn't yet seen Star Wars the main question isn't what order to watch them in, it's what method of execution should be used.

Lol! Agree completely. Its a shame as KOTCS could have been a good film and is still mostly quite enjoyable, apart from the ludicrous prospect of long-buried, crystalline aliens, awaiting the return of a single crewmember's head, before they can fly back from whence they came.
If only they'd just stuck with regular archaeology...

Re: Never Seen Star Wars - You Decide!
1-6 if you've never seen them before. I saw 4-6 first because I'm not dead inside but if you want to have any feelings at all about 1-3 you have to watch them first so you actually give a rats bum about Anakin and Obi Wan. If you watch 4-6 first you'll see the first ones as nothing more than poorly acted, digitally enhanced fakery, boring glorified action movies...which they are

Haha, brilliant.
Re: Never Seen Star Wars - You Decide!
Got to be honest, I loved the original Star Wars when I was a kid at school, but was never as enthusiastic about the sequels, and certainly not the prequels. So my order of preference would be 4. Um, that's it.

Thanks for your input
I would do 4-6 and then 1-3. I think the main stigma of Phantom Menace is how annoying Jar Jar Binks is at least Lucas had the sense to not make the ewoks speak. I just try and block him out.
I cant wait for the Blu-Ray boxset that comes out on the 12th September. 9 whole discs of Star Wars films and deleted scenes etc

Re: Never Seen Star Wars - You Decide!
If you watch film 1, you might not want to continue with the other 5. I would start with 4 and go from there. As you've posted this a while ago, Enforcer, did you finally get round to watching the films?

I haven't yet Media Cat, I have a huge collection of DVDs that I have never seen so I am trying to work my way through those at the moment!
I think 4-6 then 1-3 is the way I will do it when I get round to it.

Afger you watch Star Trek 2,3,4,6,7,8 and reboot in that order!
Re: Never Seen Star Wars - You Decide!
Oddly, I've never seen #3.
Was a big fan of Star Wars and ESB, and RotJ is alright (shame about the Care Bears), but #1 is pretty mediocre and #2 only a bit better so I never really fussed about watching Revenge of the Sith.

I can completely understand that, Enforcer. I've had the last 30 years to see ET and I've never got round to it.

I'll make an extra effort to get the DVD out on your recommendation, Adam.
