Keane leaves Spurs for LA Galaxy
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14525931.stm
what made me laugh was
"I have always wanted to come and play in MLS so it's the perfect combination for me and a dream come true," he said.
I don't believe that for one minute,
at least he stoped short of the usual "i've always supported LA Galaxy, since I was a kid"
Have to say as a ROI fan I'm disappointed. The MLS counts as semi-retirment in my opionion, he'd have been better talking a wage cut and playing for Celtic, or even playing in the championship.
I had hoped he's come to Celtic as he seemed to enjoy it there, or maybe have taken a wage cut to enable him to rejoin Wolves and end his career there where it started.

Ah Robbie, hopefully this is the end of his Ireland career. He gets goals but does absolutely nothing else on the pitch and I think we might benefit from a striker who works harder.

I think this move pretty much sums up Robbie Keane's career in a nutshell!

It is him winding down his career clearly, and I think it's a shame as he always seemed to be the kind of player who was always on the edge of being a top player. I think he would have done a lot better had he stayed at Spurs rather than moved to Liverpool, but you never know, I was convinced he was going to be a success for Liverpool and provide the right partner for Torres, but obviously not.

If you look at his record for Liverpool it actually wasn't too bad. One in 4 like.

Strange career Keane has had at times, strange move aswell, as has been said he's in retirement mode.

Keane is a good player, and always gave 100%, but he has always been short of that yard of pace that would have made him a real player! Still tickles me now that Liverpool paid £20M for him

To be honest though, he wasnt even a fair crack by Rafa as he didnt want him. I he was on the cusp of being a great player in his prime. Inter obviously seen something in him.
£12.7mill for Alves

Thought he might have gone to Leicester, he would have done well there I think.
Not sure when the MLS season runs to, obviously we need him for rest of Euro campaign, will miss a few MLS games in the next few weeks.

Only place he ever settled was Spurs, and he proved he can get goals for you. In fairness he was worse than useless for West Ham last season...but we were fairly inept all round anyway.
I reckon it's a good move for him actually -- the level of football out there isn't as bad as is being made out, and it's a growing league, so I expect more people to follow out that way.
He could still play for Ireland on the back of this though, no problem. Most European groups are made up of 2 decent teams and 3 or 4 crap ones. He is still likely to bag a few if he plays them.

Re: Keane leaves Spurs for LA Galaxy
I'm no MLS expert but I do know fans in the States who say the standard is reasonable - certainly better than the Aussie League where Robbie Fowler landed.
I remember living and working in the Midlands when he signed for Wolves, most Wolves fans were shocked Taylor convinced him to go to Molineux when other options existed, but he was always restless and didn't stay long, in fact the 2 years he had at Wolves was probably his secong longest spell at a club (behind Spurs).
Beckham managed to keep focussed on fitness and level of play when he first landed in LA so no reason why Keane can't, he's still pasionate about playing for ROI so the incentive is there

Re: Keane leaves Spurs for LA Galaxy
Forget the Robbie Keane of the last couple of seasons and remember one of the best Spurs players of recent times. Keane turned out to be a real bargain when signed (was it 2002?) . Yes, he could be selfish and yes, he could be a diver, but he had great flair and the ability to do the unexpected.
He was probably a scorer of great goals rather than a great goalscorer but still managed more than 100 for Tottenham in all matches, which aint bad.

Well from a fan of Spurs perspective, Keane was always going to leave White Hart Lane.
But the striker shortage is worrying, Defoe not on form, neither Crouch who has been linked with Stoke.
That leaves Pavlyuchenko, new blood is needed up front for Spurs because we only have three strikers now all of which have been few rough patches or are off form.

Surely form is temporary carlton ?
Last year 'Arrys big dilema was trying to keep 4 strikers happy.
Got to say I'm surprised Pav is still there - he's never been in favour and I thought they would have traded him in by now.
I dare say there's a signing lined up to replace Keane

Re: Keane leaves Spurs for LA Galaxy
Defoe was dire
Crouch linked with Stoke
Pavlyuchenko has had critics but didn't do that bad last season
New blood is needed form is temporary, class is permanent and for those three players it applies, Keane was never going to play for Tottenham again so he was rightfully sold.

Re: Keane leaves Spurs for LA Galaxy
The many dreams come true for Robbie Keane
Robbie Keane has officially left Spurs (again) and joined the L.A. Galaxy for a transfer fee reportedly worth £3.5 million ($5.7 million) and the 31-year-old Republic of Ireland captain could not be happier to be playing with Davey Becks and company. From MLSsoccer.com:
"I am delighted, honored and very excited to be joining the LA Galaxy. I have always wanted to come and play in MLS so it's the perfect combination for me and a dream come true."
Yes, he's always dreamed of playing in a league that's only existed for half his life.
Incidentally, this is what Robbie Keane said after joining Celtic on loan:
"I always wanted to play for Celtic. I'm happy to be here and I can't wait to get the jersey on for real."
And before that, this is what he said after joining Liverpool:
"I've been a massive Liverpool fan since I was a kid. This is a dream come true."
And when he had chicken and carrots for dinner last night:
"I've always been a massive chicken and carrots fan. This is a dream come true."
See kids? Dreams really do come true. But if you're Robbie Keane, they come true every time you do anything.
