606v2 Welterweight rankings
First topic message reminder :
On advice of Chris this will be for solely the Welterweight division as the light welterweights will have their own rankings
1. Robinson
2. Armstrong
3. Leonard
4. Gavilan
5. Ross
6. Hearns
7. Napoles
8. Griffith
9. Walcott
10. Burley
11. McClarnin
12. Trinidad
13. Walker
14. Britton
15. Lewis
After about 50 million changes i've settled for that but can imagine i'll be easily swayed, found it very difficult not to find a place for Whitaker

Re: 606v2 Welterweight rankings
these are great threads but basically too much time and hard work to come up with a 15 in so many categories hence why i've wimped out.
Just popping on here to give an outnumbered truss some minor support. There are 2 people who'd give curry at least a shout at top 15 welters. I suspect had curry gone to light middle before losing to honeyghan, a hearns curry fight in 1986 would have been pretty even with the bookies. Curry was never really the same fighter post honeyghan, or certainly post mccallum. Did he get found out? Or did a lengthy amateur career and extra curricular activities mean he just peaked early. If you watch him dismantle jones and mcrory, there's at least some evidence for the latter. A terriffic fighter in his prime, and a fantasy fight of Curry v hearns at welter is no foregone conclusion, no matter how hard tommy was to outbox. The left hooked that sparked mccrory would have had the same effect on tommy had it landed... a big if obviously.
Clearly his latter career counts against him and rightly so if you're looking at whole careers...but if this is purely about welterweights, curry in '93-5 gives any of those 15 a run for their money and would have beaten a fair few. imo.
