The Horror film thread
First topic message reminder :
If I had the choice to go to see one type of movie, 9 times out of 10 I would choose a horror flick. Especially if I could have a few beers before hand.
However, I am married and the wife only ever wants to watch something "light hearted" preferably with Sandra Bullock or Kate Hudson in it. Bloody rom-coms.
Anyway, back to horror films - I love them but dont get to see them very often. However, I still consider myself an afficianado of them, so thought I would start a thread for people to discuss their horror films. Whether it be a question or comment about your favourite slasher movie, put it below.
As a starting point, I just heard that they are remaking one of the most notorious horror films ever made - the Evil Dead. Now before you go off to a cabin in the woods to end it all at this news, their is light at the end of the tunnel. Its being made by Sam Raimi and has Bruce Campbell in it.
Details can be found in the first post below.
So lets hear your views on horror films. Lets see your top 5's. Lets hear what makes you scream out in the night.

Manhunter is a great choice. Often overlooked as it didnt have Anthony Hopkins as Lecter.
Shame you put in Resident Evil though - awful! (though not as bad as the sequels!). For a good modern Zombie film, you should check the remake of Dawn of the Dead - the first 10 minutes are incredible.

Re: The Horror film thread
Yeah Manhunter's a great shout. Thomas Harris' Lecter creation was genius, I think they could have done better with him in the films, obviously he was good in Silence of the Lambs, but Hannibal was a missed opportunity. The book was much better than the film, a lot darker, Lecter was just too upbeat in the film.

Re: The Horror film thread
I thought Brian Cox had a lot more to offer as Lecter, he was more intellegent looking but Hopkins has to get all the praise of making the character his and making it what it is today one of the best creations ever.
My picks would be:
Silence of the lambs
Hellraiser
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Dawn of the Dead
Friday the 13th
House of a 1000 corpses/Devil's Rejects
Paranormal Activity

American Werewolf in London?
Has some really scary bits - on the moors, the underground and the hospital, especially when you're 12!

I probably put in Resident Evil as I have not watched much horror to be honest, I only take a certain amount of gore lol. Manhunter was brilliant, really got into my head that one and thought about it a lot after watching it. I will try and take a look at the remake of Dawn Of the dead too thanks. I also liked the Blade films not sure if they are classed as Horror either though...

No Hobo that's a criminal offence. The follow up was almost a comedy! The original was superb. And yes I agree Eliza Dushku....stunning!

That trailer for the remake of Hellraiser looks awful. The originals are great films. Some Horror films i love are:
The Haunting (original)
The Omen
Poltergeist (Not scary but very enjoyable)
The Wicker Man (original)
The Birds (Actually i could probably put in about 10 Hitchcock films)

How could I forget about The Birds? Epic film. I also really enjoyed The Rear Window by Hitchcock. More Thriller though that one.

Jaws was scary when I was an 8yr old. The last proper scary, jump out your seat film I watched was Event Horizon. A bit of gore but for a sci fi film it was terrifying!

I watched the new Don't be afraid of the Dark last night. It was ok, not very scary but I thought the creatures were done well.

Re: The Horror film thread
Don't think I've seen the excellent Dog Soldiers mentioned yet. I'd recommend that.
Others that I've seen recently would include Cabin Fever (a good plot let down by the formulaic dumb teen cast) and the highly disturbing Wolf Creek (mainly psychological horror but some gore as well).

Best Kind of Horrors
Not sure about all you guys but for me psychological horror is so much more effective than splatter horror. What you don't see or what you're left to imagine I find far scarier.
Favourite Horrors for me in no order are
Woman in Black (TV movie, not Radcliffe remake)
Suspiria
Dawn of the Dead (original)
Noroi (Really awesome Japanese Mockumentary that really gets under the skin)
The Haunting (original not abysmal remake)
The Thing (80s Version)
Devils Backbone
Baby's Room (Spanish Film, really creepy concept)
Dead Birds (Wild West set Horror really tense, creepy and foreboding atmosphere throughout)
Fido (Billy Connolly as a zombie in 1950s Suburbia, a feel good horror)

Re: The Horror film thread
I have never posted on this section before, but thought I would as I watched The Human Centipede 2 last night.
It was an interesting 88 minutes, that is all I am willing to commit too.
I haven't even seen the first one, and wasn't even aware of their existence until a mate lent me number 2. I am not sure if my life is now better or worse for having seen it.

Pet Semetary didn't get a mention, amazing.
That film was a right of passage when I was growing up.
Mind you so was Animal Farm, but I think that's just a Welsh thing...
