I have the obvious contenders
Lomu
Kirwan
Tiquiri
also would you consider Caucau to be a 'big' winger?

Being big is one thing having the other necessary skills to be a winger is another.
Shane is no giant but he is third on the international list of leading Rugby union Test try scorers behind Daisuke Ohata and David Campese.

Re: biggest wingers
To be fair you did say "winger". If you can do that without a Welsh person popping in to mention that Shane Williams is the messiah within 10 posts, you get a free car.

Re: biggest wingers
What is the point of having a debate on big wingers if you cant compare them to the smaller guys ?
Or does everybody just stick a name of a big winger in there ?

Why don't you start another thread called "comparing big wingers to small wingers?" if that's what you want to do?

Re: biggest wingers
Ireland used always have a heavy set winger for many years. Most of the time, Marcus Horan wouldn't even come 10 yards in from the sideline unless he was required for a scrum.

Cari I recently stood next to him and I did not think he was that heavy.
I often wonder if half the player stats are exaggerated by club and country.

I cwtched him in January, and he was a good size to me!
Anyway, it's all muscle on these lads isn't it? So they might not look heavy, but the weight's there.

Yeah, Bowe's not that big. Stats are exaggerated (a lot in some cases). It's difficult to tell unless you see them next to another player (or a regular person) for comparison.Cymroglan wrote:Cari I recently stood next to him and I did not think he was that heavy.

JP Pietersen's 6'3"?? For some reason, I've always thought of him as a slightly smaller winger who punches above his weight. Who have I been watching all this time??

Re: biggest wingers
I'm about 15st 2, and I wouldn't say that's massive. Totally conceivable that Bowe is that weight, but I wouldn't put him up there with the "big" wingers.

Well his height is definitely correct because he was way taller than me when I stood next to him, and I'm 5'9" and a bit. As with the weight I would've thought that fluctuates with players anyway.
