The worlds best wingers. Who would you have.
There's been a bir of debate as to who is, or are the world's top wingers lately. It's a difficult call as it's subjective. Here's one way of looking at though, who would you like to have playing for you. Who would you have trialling for wing in your national squad. You can chose anyone currently playingand pick up to 3 players.
For my part, even though I only have one black eye. I'd be keen to have a look at the following players in a All Black jumper:
George North. A big beast of a man, with pace and a step of either foot. A work in progess but potential with a big "P"
Kurtley Beale. Normally a fullback, of flyhalf. I'd like to see hom on the wing. I recon he could potentially be a better version of Corey Jane. So much talent.
Jarryd Payne . A league player. Had a blinder on the wing for Queensland in the last State of O. Can play anywhere in a league backline, so should have a wide skill set for a convert. Worth a look.

Yeah Paynes a talent alright. Weve moved to having virtually 3 fullbacks in the back 3, away from the raw sivi, roko types because in todays games the high ball and return kicks are part of the game at the back. Thats a problem at the moment with gear savea zac etc not au fait with the catch and kick game.
I see beale may yet be available..c/- reunion on now.

Yeh, I think he's due back for the rugby championship, along with Horwell.

Digby Ioane, best winger in the world imo.Strong, quick, agile he makes the Wallabies look a much better team when he's playing.

Does this mean any wingers or wingers who are not currently part of your national team?
If the first, then I'd take North, Ioane and JOC (the last for his versatility)
If the latter, then throw Zac Guildford in for North

Got to say I think Beale would be a waste on the wing. You want him in close to the action dictating play, after seeing him create holes from nothing on slow Rebels ball I'd want him somewhere those talents could be used. He's more than just a finisher.
I like North he's good but very raw. Christian Wade is another young man with a load of potential though is probably even more raw than North. Nacewa is a real talent, I'd still take Heymans despite his age (one of my all time favourites) and his French compatriot Clerc is a particularly deadly finisher.

If we are going from any era and from other nations I would pick the following:-
England- Dai Duckham and John Bentley
Ireland - Simon Geahgan(spelling), Tommy Bowe
Scotland - Max and Thom Evans
France - Clerc and the grey haired one cannot spell his name
Italy - nobody
New Zealand- Jonah Lomu and John Kirwin
Australia - David Campese and Digby Iaone
South Africa- Brian Habanna and Chester Williams

For Wales I would have
Corey Jane
Digby Ioane
Tommy Bowe
I'd say they are in the top 5 wingers in the world (although I haven't seen Jane play for a while, but he is class on the wing or at FB)

I'll stick with Habana and Pietersen, I'd like to find them a new flyhalf.
apart from that, you know my feeling about other country's players representing SA.

You could have Visser mate!
I think Ioane is a much better bc than Beale at wing. Good to hear his shoulder seems not as serious as first thought. I am hoping to see what damage Beale can cause at flyhalf. I like the look of this Vuna and not just because his name rhymes with schooner.
Habana for the curiosity factor of seeing him in space and North would be good entertainment. Malzieu is a silky runner and a Japanese winger would be good value for money I reckon.

Re: The worlds best wingers. Who would you have.
1. David Campese 101 caps and 64 tries speaks for itself
2. Shane Williams. 58 caps and 200 odd points. He really is special
3. Gerald Davies. Grand Slam winner from 1971
4. Jason Robinson
5. Joe Rokocoko
6. Doug Howlett
7. Rory Underwood
8. Me. I used to be quite fleet of foot and look damned good in an 11 shirt

What no Jonah Lomu? But he has a game named after him and everything.

Ian Smith held the international scoring record for about a million years so he automatically qualifies above those two. Andy Irvine played wing occasionally and he was one gifted son of a gun. Just saying. Max and Thom Evans aren't Scotlands best wingers from any era.

I loved the way John Bentley played during the 1997 Lions tour, he was big, fast and direct, but he could still use his feet to sidestep. That is why I picked him.

Re: The worlds best wingers. Who would you have.
I would be interested to see all black sevens star player Frank Halai play the wing in all blacks.
I am not the only person! Here is interesting article that say some things I thinking but so tired making the grammatic to write down !

Re: The worlds best wingers. Who would you have.
Digby has gotta be the the top winger in world rugby at the moment bar none.
Two years ago he was a run of the mill player but now...
The guy is a matchbreaker.
The loss of Digby hurt OZ big time at RWC 2011

Re: The worlds best wingers. Who would you have.
Getting back to the original question of picking three out of anybody STILL playing if I could trail out three for England it would be Ioane who's got a bit of everything, Ngwenya (I think?) who just seems to have pure, blistering speed and Cuthbert who I reckon is the better of the two Welsh battering rams. All eventualities covered!

For Scotland:
Ioane
Cuthbert
Visser ... unless he sucks internationally in which case Ashton
(I'd rather have North as a centre)

Re: The worlds best wingers. Who would you have.
Corey Jane, digby ioane.
Must applaud north for being the youngest bloke to ever score ten tries at international level and the only one to do so while still a teenager.
The retiring Shane Williams too, for the sheer skill he dazzles us with. Though not the best all rounder, he certainly has scored more tries than anyone else in a decade, and more skillfull tries too.
