Feedback - IMPORTANT Empty Feedback - IMPORTANT

Post by Adam D Mon Feb 21, 2011 2:53 pm

Okay, the forum has been running for close to a month now and its about time we took some feedback as to how we are doing.

We have added various sections into the forum and have made numerous changes but we still want things to be improved.

We would certainly like feedback on anything you think is working, not working well or needs to be added/ removed.

Are things like the quick reply a good idea?
Are you happy with the moderation of your section?
How can we attract more members?
Are there too many sections?
Are there not enough?

Please let us know your thoughts and we will do what we can.

Thanks

Hobo

My only gripe would be the order in which articles are presented on each page. Personally, I prefer the system where the articles appear in the chronoogical order in which they were published, rather than having the most recently-commented on article at the top. However, not sure if I'm in the majority or minority with that one.

Other than that, I think the site is very impressive so keep up the good work.

88Chris05 - I think that one minor gripe is very much a personal preference. In the first week we experimented with changing that order in the golf forum. Most people seemed to prefer it the way it is now, though there were one or two who felt the same way as you.

Personally I like it the way it is so the latest posts are always on the top - otherwise they go at the bottom and then, once they go over multiple pages, you have to select the LAST page to see the latest threads instead of them being on page 1

Personally I'm happy with the site. Expect more members to join in once 606 closes. <ok> little quiet right now in the F1 section, but that'll change. Keep it up. Agree with Chris on thread order though, little tweak needed there imo too.

regards the thread ordering - I think it can be changed but I for one prefer to keep the last responded thread at the top.

That way, it keeps the hot topics at the fore and those that have little interest just disappear.

if there are enough people asking for the other way, we can look at it (not sure if it can be done though).

Post by Davie Mon Feb 21, 2011 3:30 pm

Hobo - it was definitely tinkered with in the golf forum in the first week. Most agreed that it wasn't good and it was set back to the way it is now.

There were two aspects to it; the order that threads are shown in the forum page, and the order that posts are shown on the thread page.

When the thread order was changed, all the hot topics dropped to the last page; when the post order was changed the newest comments were t the to and you had to "read backwards" down the page to where the first unread post was.

As I said, one or two preferred it but most didn't

Great site, I guess the only thing would be a worry that interest dies after 606 goes as it currently seems the only place to push 606v2. Anything in the pipeline guys.

we are currently discussing options on that McLaren. Word of mouth from our current members is the biggest draw and it would be great if you all could tell your friends about the site. People are more likely to join if they already know someone on here.

I think that there is a great opportunity for people to help with the promotion.

Especially the golfers - I would recommend that you all approach the captains of your golf clubs (or owners etc) and tell them about 606v2.

Then once a proper register of v2 members is created, you will be able to use its influence to get better deals at clubs etc.

A few well aimed conversations can create a truly unique national society - but only if you can get the clubs on board. I would be quite happy to discuss with Davie and Navy about running it and getting deals for the members, (and free perks for me of course) and approach people on the societies behalf.

I am the king of the blaggers!

Apart from that, the only other ideas we have are things like helping our internet ranking and other social networks like facebook and twitter.

If you have suggestions please put them into the idea generation bit. Before King Beer bans you for your comment!

Facebook page and then encourage members to 'Like' it, then post it on various other Facebook pages. Contact specialist sports sites that don't have forums and see whether they could link us? I expect we'll also get a fair few over from New and Not 606.

I wonder if there are any golf sites that could do with some sort of official link to a forum. In all honesty as new as 606v2 is I would imagine that it is in th top 10 if not top 5 most posted on uk golf forums. Other than the other 606 and today's golfer they are pretty quiet.

There are some US ones like golf wrx but in the UK it is thin pickings. What is the ratio on 606v2 between golf postings and non golf postings?

About 20% of the posts are on the golf board (2000 odd from a total of 9600)

I think you are right, a couple of well placed conversations and you could get something going.

I for one would like to see us have golf clubs use us - we could set up sections for golf clubs to set up news, events, sales etc and make them the mods of those sections.

The admin team doesnt have time to find the clubs - the members must take this on and make introductions to us.

just tell them to make all cheques payable to either cash or Mr H. Obo.

Can i just bring up the mention of ‘clubs’.
There is an option to create groups through admin similar to how we already have admin and moderators.
If the demand is there for a particular group we can actually create membership for it so that if you wanted to inform everyone in that section easily you could.

With regards to bringing in members post 606 closure.
Social networks are obviously key with Facebook and Twitter the two to receive the most attention, continuing to improve our SEO and looking at getting links on other sites that have relevant ties to here are also vital, if anyone can assist on these it’d be most appreciated as it greatly improves our Google site ranking.

Andover? That's where i just moved from! Spent 7 years there.

As for avatars, we decided that they wouldn't be allowed as we wanted this to be a work friendly site.

The beauty of the original 606 was that it was discreet. We are trying to replicate that minimalist feel to ensure that people are still able to post during work days without prying eyes becoming wise to it.

I was a bit worried a few weeks back when I tried to log on but got a warning from Microsoft that the site had been reported as unsafe. Glad it's all sorted out now.

Generally very impressed with the site and I'm sure it will go from strength to strength.

Personal gripe, I think the rugby site has too many subdivisions. I would like a system, like 606 has, where you can just filter to rugby union and read/contribute to all the threads. However, as I say, that's just a personal gripe and I'm sure I'll get used to the navigation.

Keep up the good work! thumbsup

Maybe each sport should vote on whether they want it split up into lots of subsections or not? We tried splitting golf up in the first couple of weeks and most people just wanted a flat-forum. It works better for golf. Maybe other sports benefit more from having things subdivided

To be perfectly honest, I really don't have any complaints about the site at all. I know that the smileys have been tinkered around with, a better selection would be good because I post on the golf forum and there is a lot of good banter and urine taking on there which would be enhanced by a better selection.

Plus points:
The PM facility
No restrictions on posting email addresses or links to websites
The Mods, guys we actually know and can reason with unlike those faceless planks on 606
The attitude of you guys that are running this site, it's very clear that you want to give us what we want.
Open 24:7

Overall, I'm a very happy bunny. This site is a quantum leap forward after 606 and you guys should give yourselves a collective pat on the back thumbsup

~Why Mr. Hobo, sir, if I may make a #1 P4P suggestion, you(all the King's men) can define to us plebes exactly what your goals for this forum to be.

Already by mere implementation a standard issue message board, you chaps are miles ahead of the beeb who managed to kill off the best web forum going in the old 5-live format for that horrid 606 model that was a hamhanded spammer's delight to match beeb grade school quality boxing front page reports that replaced the previous quality reporting.

Might we infer your top goal was to attract said hamhanded spammers with your choice of forum name, and has that worked to your satisfaction?

Are you aiming the be the largest, currently the unwieldy boxingscene with attendant viruses and redirects lurking in millions of buried posts, or the largest Brit version, currently the soon to be shut down beleaguered beeb606, or are you shooting for the top quality forum, currently a vacant title not being contested by anyone?

I cannot answer those questions for you any more than I can tell you how many Mr. Manny, Mr. Moneybags, Mr. Ali, and Mr. Tyson threads for each that you deign necessary to discuss those fighters in detail.

I am humbly here today and not complaining, so make of it what you will, but perhaps you might ask yourself, what would that ol' Mongoose, Mr. Archie Moore, how would he conduct business if he were around?

Why Mr. Hobo, sir, if I may make a #1 P4P suggestion, you(all the King's men) can define to us plebes exactly what your goals for this forum to be.

This here forum, shall be whatever the hoi polloi deem worthy to be a forum. Sir – I wish to take on all critiques of our drudgery, and fashion them into a arcadia of multi coloured wonderment.

Might we infer your top goal was to attract said hamhanded spammers with your choice of forum name, and has that worked to your satisfaction?

With familiarity, we breed contempt. However, to make effective deliberations over the concerns of the modern man, and let us not forget of course the fine form of the lady sports enthusiast, that articulate and bountiful numbers must be attracted to the discussion arena that we now find ourselves in.

I have never seen a spammer with hams for hands but I certainly have encountered many a unsavoury debater on this expertly fashioned discussion amphitheatre. These scoundrels have already been removed, and there are others who are on our critical watch. I assure you, good sir, that spammery, of pork related digits or otherwise, will not be tolerated. The good people who own the 606v2 visual discussion coliseum, are monitoring the progress of said problem boards. Troublemakers, Sir, will be shown, the metaphorical exit to the building.

I cannot answer those questions for you any more than I can tell you how many Mr. Manny, Mr. Moneybags, Mr. Ali, and Mr. Tyson threads for each that you deign necessary to discuss those fighters in detail.

The super highway of the internet allows the populous of this earth to communicate with each other about many a varied subjects. Sir – I understand that you may have had these tete a tetes previously in another alternative technological battlefield, however, I might remind you good sir, that not all contributors to this fair land, have had the pleasure of talking of the merits of some of the pugilists that are aforementioned.
They will be tolerated as new discussion areas but should a rogue either start spicedhamming the board with the same viewpoints over and over, action will be taken. At this solitary moment in our infinite timeline, these posts are covering new topics on this stadia of debate. Sir – if you have already made your point clear, I would readily ask you to divulge new areas of pontification and stilmulate the masses into a fervour.
This is a forum to befriend and make acquaintances new. Anti-good spirited nature is frowned upon. We ask that slates are made anew and that the good people, like yourself, Sir, help forge this playground of technological wonderment into a brave new world. Aldous Huxley would have wanted it that way.

Thank you for the merriment of your proclamation – I look forward to sparring with you again. I would also welcome you, sir, to offer up suggestions, nay, valued observations as to how this fountain of free flowing thoughts can be bettered. I believe in you, good Perfessor. Hobo Believes.

My passion is rugby, especially Welsh rugby, and while it is quiet right now I can see that a`number of 606 posters have logged in, so hopefully when the Beebs dies this one will thrive.

I like:
Genuine comments
No bad language
the quick reply
the sections of the rugby board,
the e-mails to alert.

finally i regularly put up the 606v2 name on the Beebs site and quite a few have already contributed, if we all do it then word will spread.

One word of warning.......another site has closed due to the serious wumming.

it was a site called Gwlad, David Moffat posted on it calling himself "Dai Moff".
It was closed for two days due to increasing wumming and nastiness, but it has reopened today.

Avatars are tiny. You should create an option so that users can turn off Avatar visualbility for work reasons, that way you can allow others to have bigger avatars. Gives you more of an identity.
