What crisps , sweets do you miss ?
I was sent a picture message the other day of a collection of retro crisps and sweets , and it got me thinking of the crisp/sweets i loved to eat when i was a kid . Things that either aren't made anymore or that some loon has changed for some reason .
I remember buying a make of crisps that i think were called WHEELZ they were in Mexican spice or Pickled onion and vinegar flavours and they had a squirrel on the packet ? they were in large bags , may have been just in the Yorkshire area .
Also does any one remember Pigs crisps they were shaped like pigs and were hollow in the middle .
On the sweet line i loved old WHAM bars, the new ones dont have enough of the crackle in them .

Space Dust - packet of ground fruit flavoured candy that popped in your mouth when you ate it. To make it more fun I would take a mouthful of fizzy pop with it and let my gob explode
Pacers - stripey green and white peppermint sweets.
Treets - a bit like peanut M & Ms but not multicoloured just brown chocolate coated.
Quarterbacks - beefy flavored crisps shaped like little men - these might be still available.
Dragon - I think these crisps were local to Wales. Tasty though
Quantro - fruity flavoured fizzy pop from the '80s.
Corona - fizzy drink in all sorts of flavours. Came in a glass bottle which, when you gave it back to the shop you could claim the 10p return. Woo hoo!
Top Deck - fizzy "alcoholic" pop. There was Lager & Lime and Shandy flavoured and it was sold to kids (hic!)
Fish n Chips - biscuity/crispy type savoury snacks shaped like mini fish and oblongs (the chips) they were a salty flavour, but lovely.
Highland Toffee - a bar of solid toffee that you'd either break your teeth on or spend hours chewing.

I also remember eating the pig crisps, but nothing else about them...

Ringos - Not the ones that turned into though that were basically onion rings but the old school version that were flat.

Isn't it called "Dib Dab" - but yeah it's still around. I think the white sherbert with the liquorice stick in a tube is still about too. I know what is definitely still around as retro sweets are quite trendy. I've seen Rainbow Drops, Palma Violets, Swizzle Sticks, Drum Stick lollies, Refreshers, Fruit Salads and Black Jacks although I'm not sure if they're still called Black Jacks.

Cadburys secrets. nobody seems to remember them but they rocked. Tangy Toms, I know you can still find them but they don't taste as good now.

I used to love Spiras. They were class.
We used to have a place called "Globally Sweet" that did loads of retro sweets. I spent a fortune in there when I was hungover/still drunk once. What a morning that was!

Thomond - really?! Cool! wonder if it still breaks your teeth?
I'm guessing you haven't heard of a lot of things because they might not have been available in Ireland...and we're showing our ages (older than you!).

Mini Chips.
Enough of them in one mouthful to make my gums bleed. Oh the joy.

They're back but they've ruined them, i managed to buy an old school packet (well,10 of them) from a little shop in the middle of nowhere a couple of years back, first time i had seen them in years.

I remember buying gobstoppers as a kid that had a really strong cinnamon flavour to them and when you'd sucked them for long enough, you got to the chewing gum centre. Really liked those but can't remember what they were called.
Remember most of the other stuff on here as well as Texan bars - chocolate covered toffee that you didn't really eat, so much as let dissolve from round your teeth, it was that hard!
Haven't seen anywhere selling Jolly Ranchers for a while now. Can you still get those? Curly Wurlies too!

As a kid I used to love Spangles - especially the "Old English" ones - which were around from the 1950s-80s. I don't remember this myself, but apparently they once used to have an advertising strapline along the lines "Spangles make you gay".
Could explain a lot, I guess..

If they were the ones that came in packs of three, they were called Jaw Breakers. They also did red ones called Fireballs which gave your mouth a burning sensation until you got to the chewing gum bit.

I didn't like those fireball gobstoppers that gave you the burning sensation they had a really weird taste , my local sweetshop used to sell giant gobstoppers that looked like eyeballs they were great .
