The Problem with Ireland
Same as it ever was. Too many Leinster players in the team. Some things never change.....
This 606v2 is a bit like Bobbys dream sequence in Dallas or is it more like a nightmare.....

Agree - we saw how the fabled all Leinster backrow held up against France.
Give me the likes of Quinlan, Wallace, Leamy, Foley any day. And to be fair to Leinster they have a few ex-Munster men like Reddan, Cronin, Ross.

I agree with you Deaglan, I cant believe that the backbone of the squad isnt made of Ulster players, red hands or not

Re: The Problem with Ireland
I know you're joking but the provincialism really is a problem among Irish rugby fans. Since the World Cup is coming I've heard the less knowledgeable people in my local pub start talking about rugby.
here's my particular favourite quote from one aul lad.
"Rory best is only in the team because they have to have an Orange man".
I think you can put that in the "provincial nonsense" category.

Provincialism is encouraged and we're probably envied by most clubs outside of Ireland for our fanatical support. Believe me, the IRFU are thrilled with our 'provincialism'. If all the players in England played for Leicester & Northampton for example, I'd say you would have similar kind of stuff going on. Its just that there are so few clubs involved, you only have fans from 4 clubs arguing the toss and there isn't any neutrals really like in England where there are lots of them.
Be glad the old fellow is vaguely interested, even if you think he doesn't know anything.

Not enough south dubs is the problem, we only had one until Jennings was brought up

Provincialism is encouraged when we are discussing our provinces not when we are discussing our country. To be honest I envy every other country where fans get behind their players no matter what club/province/region they play for.

Amazing how many people think like that with the Ulster players. And quite sad.

Re: The Problem with Ireland
Provincialism is definitely good for our provinces, but its a feicer for the national team. Really we have the worst fans- going to a game is no craic at all unless we win. Lots of times I've been to Ireland games and when it all starts going wrong people curse out the guys from other provinces. I heard lads booing Sexton at the Scotland game in 2010.
Does my head in.

Re: The Problem with Ireland
Yeah I hate it Notch. Look how passionately the Welsh support the national team in victory and defeat. I've seen plenty of Welsh posters here attack individual players. But they're attacking the player. Irish fans tend to blame a province, when we don't win. We tend to get into tedious arguements when the lineout isn't working.
Leinsterman: It's Mick O'Driscoll's fault.
Munsterman: No it's Rory Bests. Mick won all his lineouts for Munster last week.
Ulsterman: Best is the finest hooker in the land etc. etc.
The stadium goes quiet when we're losing. Are all the fans busy deciding who to blame? When a province is losing the fans roar louder to encourage them.
With regards to "southerners" views on Ulster players, I think it hasn't been helped by the fact that Ulster simply haven't been as good as Leinster or Munster for years. That might change in a few years.

Aye, they are quick to change their tune when a Ferris is around. Or even a Bowe!
But it's wonderful, it happens overnight.

I think we can all universally agree on one thing. It's Paddy Wallace's fault.

Sure what do you expect when he's running onto service from the likes of O'Leary.
Amusingly, both of those posts could be real posts on this forum without any exaggeration
