US Open - Today's play
First topic message reminder :
Some great matches to look forward to, later on today.
Dolgo - Dr Ivo: a David Vs Golia remake, I pick Dolgo to win this one, but it can go easily the other way
TMF - Cilic: Cilic is having a great run in this USO, Fed's playing well too, but today he cannot afford his usual lapses in concentration, to get on top of this unscathed.
Monaco - Haas: Haas seems to be living an Indian summer. Technically his game is still worth a top 4. The traditional defensive player v. attacking match up.
And in the women draw check out.....
Vinci - Petkovic: for the lovers of classy, vintage offensive tennis

Re: US Open - Today's play
Winning 16 slams and earning people's respect throughout the years will allow him that luxury, without winning a slam and acting like your the best eg Murray just makes himself look silly. Glad I could helpsportslover wrote:Where's toilet man?
Did you here the Emporer shout a loud c'mon when Cilic missed his shot.
Now isn't that terrible
Maybe he is human after all.

Is that the best you can manage JM. Andy got that from the Federer school of sportsmanship.

So going by that ethic that should make you look silly for commenting on anything Andy has achieved in tennis since you've never won a tennis match in your life let alone an ATP title or Masters event.

1 set all 1 game all in the Fed-Cilic, I can see a 5 setter YI, Cilic won't be so easy.

I came out with the idea a while ago. There's the need for a pub thread focusing on this important aspect of the game.

I wanted a reply from toilet man not from what's in the toilet.
Now Cilic is shouting c'mon when Fed misses, what is the game coming to.

Yeh, the Federer and Cilic match.
And Yummy, as I have said on numerous times previously, we only ban people if site rules are broken.

Re: US Open - Today's play
It is really strange how this match has unfolded. Cilic looked out of ideas in the first set and seems to have just started to make some UE's.

He seems to have taken the pace of the FH slightly and isn't hit is flat as he was in the first set. The BH still shows no signs of letting up.

WHAT is the point of deleting someones' post because one doesn't *like it* YI ?
What a LOT of ex-606 posters did when they joined this forum was to believe the shcmaltz about
how this forum was *Wum* free and that ALL petty name-calling of individual tennis players
would be dis-allowed.
What a Bl***dy joke ! It's worse than 606 ever was simply for the reason that the *so-called*
Administrators of this forum cannot distinguish between real tennis fans and the old lingering
*Slamless Murray* posters of old !

Hmm time violation warning just before Cilic is about to serve at BP down, and then Cilic double faults. Wonder very much whether that would have happened if it had been Nadal or Nole serving...

Exactly! I suspect teh referees have been briefed to favour the big names. The timing was awful there though I agree he shoudl have been warned before.

Re: US Open - Today's play
sort of tactics I expected to see a lot more of from Federer, lots of sliced backhands, keeping the ball low, and Cilic is missing. Federer will serve for the match next up.

Re: US Open - Today's play
Glad Roger won but I am really annoyed that the referee gave that time warning at such a crucial time. It killed CIlic momumtum .
I don't know if you are aware but the USO this year is only using half of top professional umpires. And I suspect this is to influence the new umpires in making things easier for the big names.
There was also a clear ball out from Fed that the umpire should have called but did not.
We know that in the US it's all about tv ratings...but they are taking this too far and have turned a great sport into a circus like they have done for all their sports.

Just saw the worst line call in tennis history; the ball was out by nearly a metre and both the linesperson and the umpire missed it. Fish match.

Re: US Open - Today's play
I am not so sure that incident was really so pivotal myself. I always had the feeling Federer would come through no matter what. Decent enough performance from Cilic and Fed did what he had to do.

What's a momumtum?
Is it some kind of surgical procedure to make you eat less?
Is it a slimming exercise for new mums?
Answers on a postcard..

Re: US Open - Today's play
Good quality match between two clean hitting players. Excellent stuff, much better than the dross served up yesterday.
Saw a few shouts on opponents misses that I'd prefer not to hear. Not as much as from Murray of course, and generally on big points (so arguably the shout is for the game/set rather than the miss) but not all of them by any means.

Dolgopolov breaks at the start of the fourth! The low forehand volley which he flicked up and over Karlovic for a winner in that game probably as good a shot as you'll see all year
