Re: 2011 Seve Trophy Teams
Teams now announced:
GB&I:
Darren Clarke
Jamie Donaldson
Simon Dyson
Ross Fisher
Mark Foster
David Horsey
Scott Jamieson
Ian Poulter
Robert Rock
Lee Westwood
Continental Europe:
Thomas Björn
Nicolas Colsaerts
Anders Hansen
Peter Hanson
Miguel Angel Jiménez
Pablo Larrazábal
Matteo Manassero
Francesco Molinari
Alexander Noren
Alvaro Quiros
Looks as if it should be competitive - best chance CE have had in a while maybe? Though obv. presence of Westwood, Poulter and Clarke will be big for GB&I.

Re: 2011 Seve Trophy Teams
Interesting to note how the BBC sports site reports this as
"Britain and Ireland will be without four of the world's top 20 players when they defend the Vivendi Seve Trophy against Continental Europe in Paris"
They obviously think it should be appealing to the higher ranked players even though it is so badly scheduled

I do not think that Casey or Rose would be missed as much as, Sergio will be missed by Continental Europe, as he has a large influence on team moral
Rory and Donald will miss out, on the team play aspect, as both need more experience to help them in the forthcoming Ryder Cup.

Rory, I can agree with, but you really think Luke needs more experience in RC-style play? I'd have him right at the top of my team along with Lee and Poults - no more experience necessary

Yes I agree with you on Luke, but playing match play team golf is so different to anything else that they do, just doing it for 1 week every 12 months, would not be a bad thing no matter what experience you might have.

I fail to see how this event helps GB&I players prepare for the RC. If anything it gives Continental Europe a better chance of prep, as the RC is Europe not just GB&I. If they had say Europe v Southern Hemisphere then I can see how that could be beneficial and much more contested.

I think the Seve trophy is great way for would be Ryder cup rookies and would be Ryder cup captain's to get experience. But I really don't think any one that has played in a ryder cup will gain any extra experience by teeing it up at the Seve trophy.

Perhaps not, but the experience for the rookies is surely better if there are seasoned Ryder Cup players to play with and against, than if it was entirely rookies no? So the teams seem good to me, a mix of experience and inexperience.

Re: 2011 Seve Trophy Teams
I'm not sure what Paul Mcginley is on about when he says GB&I are underdogs. They have the only current major champion in Clarke, the world no 2 in Westwood, the current world matchplay champion in Poulter, a former world matchplay champion in Fisher & the man who is in the best form in Dyson. Donaldson and Foster are also in great form.
Hopefully his team won't feel inferior in any way.

McGinley is just upholding one of the finer European Ryder Cup traditions, claim you are the underdog and then go out and spank your opponents.

Re: 2011 Seve Trophy Teams
I read on the european tour website that McGinley is giving his players putting advice........they're done for!
Quite ironic that he is remembered for that putt, when all his career has been blighted by poor putting.

Hardly see GB&I as the underdogs bearing in mind they've won every held except for the very first one
